Ipod freezes up when trying to play songs

Hey there,
i've been having trouble with my 40GB "click wheel" ipod. I've recently had to restore it (it claims it's corrupt every time i restore it) and now when i load songs onto it through itunes, it will either freeze up itunes and/or the ipod or won't play on my ipod...i've tried to restore the ipod alot, reload songs, etc. but still have not found a workable solution. I have the latest software for itunes and ipod (through itunes). please help!!! ^_^

I am having the same exact problem. The Ipod sounds like the hard disk revs, then stops. And it is doing this over and over and over again.

It should help you locate the media that is not playing in the iTunes library.

Only artwork, no audio when trying to play songs

when i select a song to play, the art work appears, but nothing else, no title or progress bar, then after about 1 second it automatically goes back to my coverflow (which is where i just was)
but it only does it for a select few songs, they are all in the same album, so i think it may be a song file problem

As I say I realise what you are saying, but it is your library database file that is synced, your music is streamed.
It has worked in the past for me and it still works now, I can see all the albums on the Apple TV in 'My Music' only when I go to play a file: silence. Both on the television and on the stereo.
Have you by any chance turned the volume down on the tv.
And yes, there is a reason to disable sound output via HDMI, because there is no use to have two audio streams outputting at the same time.
Sorry I don't follow your reasoning here. We don't use the DVD player in the car, I haven't considered disabling it though.

Firefox complete freezes when trying to play song on Myspace

Hi,
When I try to play a song in the Myspace music player, Firefox completely freeze and I have no other choice than sending it a SIGTERM.
I'm using kernel26rt (2.6.31_rt10-3), firefox 3.5.5-1 and flashplugin 10.0.32.18-1.1.
I've tried with a new profile but it does not change anything.
Any hint for where could this come from would be appreciated.
Edit : When the problem is occurring, I don't even get high load on firefox processes :

I tried it and it works without any problems. I tried also clean profile and I've had almost the same performance.

I've got another tip. Do you have open port 1935 ? It's a Adobe Media Server port, which you need to connect to receive a song.

Itunes keeps freezing up when trying to play a rented movie.

I recently rented a movie from itunes using the $2.99 SD copy. I downloaded it and then prepared to watch but instead of playing the movie freaked out and froze my itunes. The only way it would do anything was when I exitted out. I've tried restarting my computer twice, have opened and closed itunes mutliple times. I believe I have the most recent version of itunes (11.02). I have 24 hours to watch my movie and it is not working! Help please! Is there any way to fix this. I've tried making sure itunes is the only thing open, but even then it doesn't work.

I have no volume when trying to play songs on itunes.

I went into Control Panel and checked my Sounds and nothing is muted and volumes are all high. Last night Norton Utilities said I had a Trojan Horse virus- could that have destroyed something affecting sound? I still have sound when I log onto AOL and microphone works. Today I couldn't even get a song to play, it just stayed on pause, so I downloaded itunes again. Now it plays, but no sound.

Here is what I think could be going on
A virus (or trojan) burrowed its way into your file structure, and created an element of itself disguised as a .SYS file. We've seen this happen before with viral elements disguising themselves as audio or video card driver files, in the efforts of masking themselves from lower-class anti-virus programs (or un-updated ones). In this case, they take on the name of a driver file that the audio card drivers are "familiar" with, and so, with the intention of being "fast, friendly, and efficient", the audio drives are tapped to utilize this new "driver" file... and it gets referenced in the registry as such.
However, when your anti-virus actually snaps to it, and removes the virus / trojan, and you go off on a virus-killing mission, galavanting through the registry and cleaning the little buggers out in Safe Mode and everything... you might remove the viral elements... but... the reference to them might still remain.

Ipod shutting down when trying to play movies

My ipod is shutting down every time I try to play "movies". I have 4 dave mathews videos in quicktime(.mov) and Iv'e imported them into my itunes.I then converted them to play on ipod.I put them on my iopd, but if I try to play them I get a loud click from the ipod and it restarts,

Ipod nano 5th generation freezes when trying to play a song or video

Within the last couple of day my ipod nano 5th generation started freezing whenever i tryed to play a song. Oly way i could turn it off was by resetting it, however it did not fix the problem and still freezes whenever i try to play a song. I have even restored it to factory setting and it does the exact same thing. I don't understand why it does this, does anyone know why it freezes and won't stop? i don't have any warrenty on it and want to know if it is fixable, because it just randomly started freezing when trying to play music. If any one knows why it would be appriacted to know.

Does this happen with any song or video you play? If so, then my best guess would be a hardware issue since a restore to factory settings did not resolve it.

5.5 Gen Video Ipod rebooting when trying to play certain PodCasts.

After enjoying an Ipod Nano for a year and loving every minute, I went ahead and purchased the new 80GB Video iPod.
Its great but it has a tendency to reboot for no apparent reason when playing certain PodCasts. For example: Its impossible to play the Buzzcast episode: BuzzCast 09/27/06 - "Microsoft protects your ****". The Ipod shuts off and reboots every time. I'm using Itunes 7.0.1 and the Ipod is running the latest available firmware.
Can anyone else who also owns the new 80GB iPod download this particular episode and confirm?
By the way, I've also noticed that even though the iPod is connected / docked with iTunes and clearly visible in the panel to the left, The message "Waiting for iPod" is displayed when trying to re-sync a while later. The only way to get iTunes to make contact with the iPod again is to physically disconnect the cable and reconnect, (even though the iPod icon was still clearly visible to the left thus indicating already established contact with the iPod) Weird!
Anyone else having this experience?

WHAT was apple thinking when they released iTunes 7.0 and firmware 1.2!? I installed in on my 60gb Video and the whole thing went to pot.
1. It sounded horrible
2. It would only allow me to download about 25% of my movies to the iPod (I have a large library and I take movies on and off depending on what I feel like for the trip I am taking.)
AppleCare Support was USELESS. Here is what I finally figured out to get the pod working right again:
1. Uninstalled iTunes 7 from my computer (PC).
2. Went into the registry editor and deleted all remaining references to iTunes.
3. Restored the firmware to the version that came with the iPod last January.
4. Used the 2006.06.28 firmware updater
5. Installed iTunes 6.0.5
It works like a charm, just like it did before Apple "made things better."
AppleCare told me that they could not support songs ripped from my CD's, or any video that had not been purchased from iTunes. I am certain that the reason for this had nothing to do with their wanting a monopoly on music and video that will work on an iPod. Then he offered to report the problem I was having to their development team.
I asked him if other people were having problems with iTunes 7. He said the question was not relevant to my problems! I pressed him more for an answer and he continued to parrot what Apple has obviously told him to say. "My new 80gb Video is working fine. I have not had the problems you are having."
DON'T UPGRADE TO ITUNES 7!!!!
I have ordered an 80gb since he said they work so flawlessly. Reading in this discussion, it appears that plenty of new 80gb users are frustrated too.

If only one song is doing that, that suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:

Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
