Ipod freezes, wont respond to anything

my fifth generation ipod classic freezes when i plug it into my computer on the screen it says do not disconnect, it dosent respond to unplugging it or plugging it back in, pushing any buttons is useless. i usually have to wait until the battery runs out and plug it into my computer, then it will work. is there any way to make it stop?

I have the same ipod and it does not accept more than 850 megs of music. I use the usb to connect and it will not keep the music if I try to put more than that on there. It just disapears. I have tried the 5r's and used to different usb cables. I have reformatted the hd in it and restored it. I also downloaded the latest Itune today and had the same issue still. I have access to a newer IPOD and was able to to put my whole libary on it. Any help would be appriceated.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable

    Hi mikemikenation,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below provides troubleshooting tips that can help you resolve the blank black screen issue with your iPhone 5s.
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If you see a solid color screen (black, white or blue)
Plug in your device to a power source. If you see the low-battery screen when you plug in, let your device charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad) before using it.
Reset your device while it's plugged in.
If resetting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup

  • Help! My Ipod isn't responding to anything :-/ any ideas on what to do?

My Ipod isn't responding to anything. I was listening to it and then I stopped listening to it. Two hours later I tried to turn in on and it wasn't turning on. I checked to see if the hold was on, I tried holding the center button for 10 seconds. I also just charged it last night so it had full a battery. I also plugged it into my computer and it's not registering it at all. The screen is just black. I already know that i can change it to disk mode or whatever, but I can't because it won't respond to anything! Please help! I really need my Ipod! Thanks!

Try sliding the switch/hold back and forth a couple times, and then reset it 3 or 4 more times (in a row). And if that doesn't do anything, you might just have to take it to your local apple store!

  • My ipod screen wont respond to touch

My ipod was working just fine last night, then today I tried to listen to it and the screen wont swipe to unlock or anything.... What do I do? I've rebooted, restored it, everything, but it wont respond to touch.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • My iPod won't respond to anything!!

my 20GB iPod has been working fine since I got my new one in July. Just last night, however, it wouldn't respond to anything. I tried everything and I followed all of the instructions in the "iPod Help" section of iTunes. when I plug my iPod into the wall charger, it won't do anything; when I plug it into my computer, it won't do anything. it won't turn on at all! I have no idea what to do.

I did that last night and nothing works. I know I don't have a dead battery because it was fully charged yesterday.
besides, when I plug it into something, nothing comes up; not even the little "charging" symbol.

  • My ipod won't respond to anything. Its there anything I can do?

So my sister spilled her protein shake on the bottom of the front screen of my ipod touch. So I quickly wiped off the goo and sprayed it with some gentle cleanser and wiped it off as well. Well, I had just gotten the ipod a week ago and so the protective cover was still on, and still sticky. So I peeled the cover off only to find that underneath the cover was sticky too. So I sprayed and wiped. I also took a small toothpick and cleaned out the edges because there was shake gooped up in there too.
When I first turned on the ipod, screen's contrast was lighter; and it worked. Then after the cleaning, the screen apeared to be frozen and it still turned off and on. So I thought maybe I should plug it in to the charger and see if maybe it lost battery or that would unfreeze it. Soon after I turned it completely off, it would not respond to anything. It still is black and unresponsive to anything.
I would return the ipod, however, my mom got it for me six months ago for christmas, but then, they decided to get me a laptop. So my mom kept the ipod just in case I wanted to buy it from her. So when I got straight A's, my parents gave it to me as a gift. I am unsure if I can still return it to our local walmart after this long period of time.
    Help would be much appreciated.

However, the shake may have damaged the iPod and such damage is not covered by warranty.

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.
