Ipod frezzes PC when connected

Hey im having trouble with my 20gb ipod(2002 click wheel model) connecting to the computer. when i plug it in it basicly freezes my pc but when i disconnect it everything is normal in an instant, it has worked before so i dont think its the computer.
any help is greatly appreciated
Dell   Windows XP   None

Mine too! Spent what felt like hours off & on over the past couple of days trying to get my laptop to recognize the iPod. When I go to iTunes/Edit/Preferences/iPod, it says no iPod is connected--even when it is. And I wanted to change the drive name for the iPod (from E) so it didn't interfere/get confused with the external drive (F)where I moved all my music files. But going to the disk management from Control Panel/Applications/ doesn't help because only my laptop hard drive (C) and the external drive (F) are registering.
My other issue is that I have tried to install the latest iPod/iTunes update (7.0.2), and I get some kind of glitch every single time and it doesn't complete loading and I can't even find a folder of it anywhere in the system.
So now I can't update the iPod with new software or new music, and I can't get it to connect to the PC since it's suddenly incompatible/not recognized, and I can't even get it to the point where I can restore and start over because it's not recognizing any commands.
Very frustrating!! Can anyone help?
Thanks!

  • IPod Error Message when connected to the computer

When I have my iPod connected to my computer and listening to it's music through the computer, or even just updating songs onto my iPod, I always get an error message.
It doesn't really do anything, except it's just there and it's bugging me...On the bottom right of my computer where the time is- thats where the message pops up and it keeps on coming back every 10 minutes or so.
    The message says-
    iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory /iPod_Control/iTunes/Temp File 1 is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
How would I go about fixing this, and what the hellll does it mean?????
Thanks in advance for the help

I've sort of figured out what the error message means- as in what it does to my iPod...
I am unable to add music to my iPod anymore. Anytime I connect my iPod to my computer and try to "safely remove it" with the eject thing, it says it is unable to because it is being files from my iPod Mini are being used by other files(I completely shut down all other music files and still received this message)...
So since I am unable to "safely remove the hardware", I have to do it without clicking the little eject iPod thing. When I do that, my iPod doesn't save any of the music I just put on it, and it comes out exactly the way it was before...
Any idea how to fix this, and how I got it???
And for some reason...My iPod keeps on telling me theres not enough room on it for any more songs when their is over 2.3 GBs left...
    What issss going on here???

  • G3 click-wheel iPod suddenly janky when connecting to iTunes

Starting Monday(7/9), my reliable G3 20GB iPod all of a sudden had a hard time connecting to iTunes.(v7.3.0.?) Whenever I connect to Windows, it took a long time recognizing the iPod and even when Windows recognized it, iTunes took even longer. Eventually, iTunes would either crash or recommend reformatting the iPod. Even after doing so, it would still have difficulties, making iTunes/Windows stall. Once in awhile, connection would be successful, in which case the syncing would be problematic.(I listen to a lot of Podcasts)
I made an appointment at the Genius Bar on Tuesday(7/10) and they were no help. Eventually, they concluded that my iPod is dead and that I should just get another one. I walked out with my G3, looking like someone whose puppy had just died.
Today, I got an auto-update notice for a new update to iTunes.(v7.3.1.3) Once I did this, my iPod connected fine(after another round of reformatting) and no problems syncing.
So if anyone has had a similiar problem this week, I have a sneaky suspicion that it was related to the first version of iTunes that was released in preparation for iPhone. Maybe the new update released today fixed some bugs? Who knows. I just wanted to share in case this is helpful to some of you.
    Long live my old iPod!

My iPod Classic is also sticking in verify then iTunes freezes. This only happened after iTunes was updated to 9.2. According to CCleaner's registry check, two problems appear - both are missing TypeLib References; the IUserHelper and the IiPodManagerUI. I can only assume that the latest iTunes is causing the trouble because of these missing files. This led to me completely reinstalling iTunes yesterday, but all that achieved was to empty my iPod and leave me library-less. The only way around it I can see is to wait for a new iTunes update. A real pain.

  • IPod only charges when connect to the Mac

My iPod will only charge when connected to the Mac.  It will not charge on any other cable or docking station.  And, yes, I have tested the various cables and docking stations with other devices and the issue is clearly only with this one device.  I am note sure what generation the device is, but it is old enough that it cannot run iOS 7.  It is on iOS 6.1.5.
    Thanks

Then it seems that the other sources do not work satisfactorily. Do the other charging sources charge other devices?

  • IPod Freezes on when connected

    Hi Guys-
Lately, my iPod has been freezing on the 'do not disconnect' stop sign screen whenever I connect it to my Mac and is not recognized. I just restart it and it always seems to work on the 2nd try. I'm running the latest version. Any ideas on why it keeps freezing? Thanks.
    -Jack

Thanks for the replies.........I can't seem to find a solution to this....its annoying to say the least. Its just happened again this morning, though it's successfully sync'd on the last few occasions....it seems to be quite random.
One thing I've noticed is that it synced OK when iTunes wasn't open when I plugged it in. It appeared on the desktop, then I opened iTunes. This morning though it froze when iTunes was already open, so there may be an issue with iTunes (I updated this weekend to see if it was any different with the new version). I guess this will happen if you've got the ipod set to open iTunes automatically when connected too.
So, no solutions as yet.......I'm gonna get onto Apple to see if they have any answers. I'll get back to you all on this one.
PS: why no firewire capabilities on the new ipods?

  • IPod Acting Strange When Connected To Windows / Songs Also Cut Short

    Hi,
I am using the latest iTunes version with Vista and have an 80Gb iPod Video.
In the last few weeks, I rebuilt my PC from scratch.
I currently have some problems with my iPod and would be most grateful if someone could please assist me. Here’s the details….
Whenever I connect my iPod to my PC, I get a Windows message popping up asking if I want to “Scan and Fix”. Any ideas why this is happening and how this should be resolved? I also find that when ejecting the iPod in iTunes, I still can’t remove it until I go into Explorer and select Safely Remove. Could this be a driver problem – how can I be sure to be using the correct driver for my iPod?
Also, when the iPod is playing (not connected to computer), some songs are cut short. There doesn’t appear to be any pattern to which ones cut. They play ok in iTunes.
Finally, is there something (apart from un-ticking the Enable Disk Use check box in iTunes) that you need to do to get an iPod out of disk mode. Mine was in disk mode a few weeks ago, but since then I have done a restore and the check box is no longer ticked – does a restore / reset take the iPod out of disk mode? – (I originally put it in disk mode to try and do a defrag). Since the iPod still appears in Windows Explorer, I was wondering if it is in fact still in disk mode (even although according to iTunes, it isn’t).
I have tried all the reset stuff, but still no joy!
Many thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers,
    Neil

Have relogged this - things changed a little last night!

  • Looking for Firmware upgrade for IPOD to play when connected to Onkyo RCVR ?

Onkyo support tells me their is a Firmware upgrade for my IPOD NANO that will allow it to play when connected to their reciever.  Newer IPODS work fine.  With my the Onkyo recognizes the IPOD, reacts like it is playing but does not play.

Connect it to your computer and upgrade it in iTunes.

  • Ipod wont charge when connected by USB

My ipod doesn't charge when i connect via USB but will charge on Firewire..?? is this normal??

My ipod doesn't charge when i connect via USB but
will charge on Firewire..?? is this normal??
I assume that you are referring to the ipod being plugged into your Mac when charging. The Mac cannot be in "sleep" mode if you want to charge the ipod by plugging into USB. However the Mac can be in "sleep" if you plug into the Firewire port. The reason is that the FireWire port is powered while the USB is not when the Mac is asleep.
BTW you can charge via the USB 1 and not just USB 2. I have a 4G ipod that will charge when connect to my older iBook (2002 model) that only has USB 1.

  • IPOD Nano freezes when connected to computer

I got my ipod about six months ago. It worked fine until about a month ago, it started freezing as soon as I connected it to the computer. I have tried restarting the computer while it's connected. I have tried restarting the ipod while it's connected and when it's not connected. I have tried reinstalling the latest version of itunes on my computer. Of course, I can't restore the ipod, because it freezes within seconds of connecting to the computer. NOTHING works. The ipod still recharges, but I can't restore it, or download any new songs because it just freezes on the Do Not Disconnect message. I have tried different computers (Dell Laptop, MacBook Pro, Compaq PC) but it does the same thing on every computer. Does anyone know what to do about this? I have tried all the suggestions on the Mac Support page. Please help! This is so frustrating :_(

have you looked at this one yet?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=32222
Yes, thanks for the suggestion, but as I mentioned, I have gone down the list of all the apple support recommendations and nothing has worked. I need NEW ideas if anyone has had the same problem or I guess I'll have to take it in for servicing.

  • Ipod disconnects automatically when connecting to Windows?

Running on XP, With an ipod classic, whenever i plug in my classic it always says "Connected, Do not disconnect" for a few seconds and then shows the "Ejecting" Screen and says "OK To disconnect" with the little bar at the bottom and then goes back to the home screen, yet still charges.(Due to the little charge symbol in the battery sign. Can anyone help?

I have a problem which seems to have been raised often but not solved. Have a 120gb Classic and connect to PC and laptop using Windows XP pro. Laptop works fine. When connected to PC, connection bubble appears and then computer re-sets. Uninstalled Itunes software with Revo uninstaller and again, when I connect the IPOD to a USB port, computer crashes. I can run any other peripheral through USB's without a problem.
Guess it's a USB problem. Anyone any ideas please?

  • IPod restarts itself when connecting to Windows

I've been having this problem very often over the past few weeks when I connect my iPod it will flash twice and then restart itself. I figured maybe running the error check that windows has in the properties of the drive might work, but nothing changed. It continues to happen.
Also (this problem was already reported, but I will reiterate the situation) the iPod will say it's connected, but iTunes shows it as not being connected. In addition, I can't eject it from Windows Explorer because it says the iPod is currently in use by another application. So I'm therefore forced to pull the plug on the iPod and then it disconnects as normal (which makes no sense, flaw?)

  • 20g Ipod freezes up when connected to my mbp

My 20G 4th gen ipod freezes up when I connect it to my mbp, it won't even detect it. But when I connect it to my wall charger it works fine and but I want to add new music.

My 10g is freezing up too. Except it'll freeze during playback and won't do a thing 'till the battery dies. It will display whatever track it was on last and won't budge. I've tried pluggin' it into the charger, connecting to the computer; nothing.
    Any updates?
