IPOD fried my USB ports

Hey gang:
Last night, I plugged my IPOD into my Gateway M210X laptop to do a download of new music.
The laptop shut down suddenly - like someone just disconnected all power.
I booted the laptop back up only to find that all three USB ports are now DEAD. The USB ports will not recognize any other devices I had plugged in like keyboard, mouse etc etc.
Any ideas as to what happened?

Cannot remove iPod Shuffle from USB port

I cannot physically remove iPod from the USB port on my Dell Latitude (Windows XP Pro). The device is recognized intermittently in My Computer. Powering the notebook off doesn;t solve the problem and I have done the "Five Rs".
The deveice is physically locked - can slide it partially from USB prot, but it does not release.
Any ideas?

Wow!!! Take it to a Apple or Dell computer shop and hope they can remove it for you

Can't synchronize my IPod with the USB-Port of my 27 Inch Cinema Display

I use a 27" Cinema Display with my Windows PC.
It is connected via USB and Display Port.
Synchronizing my IPod at the USB Port of the PC works fine.
Synchronizing my IPod at each of the three USB Ports of the Cinema Display doesn't work.
Any suggestions?

Sorry if there is any missing information. I'll try to put all requested information:
The car system is the one that is already installed in my car, I mean it is not something bought externally and installed in my car. The car is a ford S-Max. This car has a complete radio system that includes a USB connection for mp3 players. It works ok but not with the iPod. The IOS installed is the last that has been released, but the iPod was not working with this connection before that update.

Yes, I think so... But what's odd here (to me) is that it actually matters what song the iPod was playing before being connected to that USB port. What happens if you connect the iPod when it is not playing any song? It seem like either the car audio system knows where to look for the iPod's song files, or it doesn't.
If you have a USB flash drive, try putting a few song files on it, and connecting it to that USB port. That's probably the primary reason for that USB port, so customer can attach USB flash drives with song files. If that works, and you can properly browse and play songs from the USB flash drive, you should just get a $5 8GB USB flash drive, fill it with your "car songs," and leaving it connected to the car audio system. That would be more convenient that remembering to connect and disconnect your nano all the time, and less wear-and-tear on the nano.

My Ipod Shuffle has fried two USB ports in my computer

I have been reading through all the forums, but I have not seen anything written about Shuffles burning the USB ports.
My Ipod shuffle was connected and suddenly, I heard an explosion and my computer when black. I went and changed the ipod at the store, got another one, and the same thing happened with another USB port.
Now, I change the USB dock, but still the light in the Ipod won't change to green.
Please, let me know.

Apple cannot fix your PC... the warrenty for the PC is with Dell so only they (or an authorized repair centre) can repair it. Apple will repair your shuffle should it be faulty.
I would recommend trying a re-installation of Windows and if that doesn't work, contact dell for the repair.

I've fried my USB ports... does anybody know the model # for my motherboard

My usb ports are fried on my G5 and the apple suggested that I should add an internal usb card, which I did. However, sometimes it won't recognize my ipod and won't charge my ipod.
I'd like to exchange the whole motherboard and I've seen some on ebay but I am not sure abou the part number. Any ideas how I figure that out?

Where can I get a cable to connect my 2nd generation iPod to a USB port on a Windows PC?

My wife wants to give her old iPod to her sister but we don't have a cable that will connect to a PC's USB port. Are there adapters or something similar available that will enable our old 2nd generation iPod to communicate with a PC via a USB connection? Any other suggestions?

Why not just buy another Apple USB dock connector cable from somewhere such as Amazon? You (or your wife's sister) can get one used or brand new for pretty cheap.

Have you tried *resetting* your iPod classic with it still connected to the USB port in you car? To do this, press and hold the *Select* (Center) and *Menu* buttons together until the Apple logo appears. Don't be afraid to try this more than once if necessary.
If no luck there, try a different cable as well as contacting the manufacturer of your car to see if there is anything they can suggest as well.

Connect ipod video to usb port on home cinema receiver?

I am trying to connect my ipod to my samsung home cinema receiver via the usb port. When i do it just hangs, is this not possible?

I think you might be out of luck I'm afraid. The easiest way to connect it would be with a mini-jack to stereo RCA cable.

TIP: Fix for crashing iPods on (notebook) USB ports!

I've read many stories here about iPods crashing on updates, or otherwise behaving unpredictable whilst connected to a computer. I also encountered such problems.
Now I've found that, particularly on notebooks, there is an energy setting on the USB port(s) that is very likely to potentially cause problems if set incorrectly. This is especially true if USB-energy dependent devices like iPod are connected to it.
To fix this, go to: system management -> computer management -> appliances -> USB controllers. There double-click on 'USB main hub' (or right-click and choose 'properties'). Next go to the 'energy management' tab and uncheck 'allow computer to switch off this device to save energy'. Repeat for every USB hub you may want to use for iPod or any other USB-energy dependent device. *
Most likely this will fix any related problems.

Ready...
1a) Goto Control Panel
1b) If your in Category View Select Performance Maintenance
1c) Select System

1a) Goto Control Panel
1b) If your in Classic View Select System
Or
1a) Goto your Desktop
1b) Right Mouse Click on My Computer
2) Now that you are in System Properties, click on the Hardware tabsheet
3) Click on Device Manager
4) In the tree structure find Universal Serial Bus controllers
5) Expand the USB controllers nodes
6) Locate the a USB Root Hub
7) Right Mouse click and select properties or just double click
8) In the USB Root Hub Properties dialog box select the Power Management Tab
9) Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power checkbox.
10) Click ok.
Repeat 6 - 10 for each USB Root Hub

Ipod message re usb port

Even though my ipod is connected to a 2.0 usb port, ever since I upgraded to itunes 7.1 I get a message that I am connected to the 1.1 usb port and that the ipod would work better with the 2.0. What gives, how can I stop getting the message every time I dock my ipod.

I have the identical problem on my eMac (not Intel). No problems connected at 2.0 USB until 3 weeks ago. Everything on the video iPod and Mac are up to date. Mac OS 10.4.8. I disconnected all other USB devices except an external hard drive that has been fine. I have tried two cables AND my daughter's iPod Mini. All report USB 1.1. Yes, it is slower.
Oh! I did upgrade to iTunes 7.1. At the same time as the problem appeared? I dunno.

Something won't let me disconnect my ipod from the USB port

I plugged in my ipod to update my new downloaded songs. My computer never recognized my ipod and now the "do not disconnect" message won't go away. I tried clicking on icon in the lower right hand corner that usually tells me when it's ok to disconnect but it's not giving me the "ok".Can any one help me? I know that my sister unplugged hers with the "do not disconnect" message and she had to buy a brand new ipod. HELP!

This is the QuickTime for Mac forum and so probably not the best place for you to get help with your issue. I'd suggest you ask in the iPod area; choose the "connecting to Windows" forum appropriate for your model of iPod.

My ipod will not stay connected to my computer. When first plugged into the usb port, I can see it as a drive. Within seconds it disappears. If I look in the devices area, I can see it but it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point beside it.

When I connect my ipod to a usb port on my computer, I can see it in my computer as a drive for a few seconds and then it disappears. It can be seen under devices but as a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. If I run trouble shoot, it states windows is disconnecting this device.
I can see it in itunes as a device. However, this is a brand new computer, running windows 7. My last one bit the dust in mid use. I want to save the songs on my ipod and to do that I believe I need to be able to see the files on the ipod.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Great Troubleshooting on your own so far!. (If you got 2 PC and 2 iPod would be much easier, some of the people in this community has more than 2 of each.)
Hope you did not connect it to a USB Hub, the sync cable must be plug in directly to a USB2 port at the back of the Desktop Computer.
If you have a spare Notebook, with iTunes, connect it to the Notebook, to check if the iPod is working or hung.
Can you iPod run and play songs, when disconnected from the PC? (Sorry, for just asking the obvious)
Anyway, just hard reset your iPod, so that we can start from scratch
1. if your iPod is hung, reset it by pressing Menu and Center button for at least 10 secs till the Apple logo, comes on. (this won't delete your songs in the iPod, if they are not corrupted))
2. Connect it back to your Notebook or Desktop.
if your iPod screen is dead, try charging the battery by connecting it to another computer. if it doesn't connect to successfully to another computer, it may need servicing.
