Ipod frozen at language screen, tried 4 R's, computer says device malfunc

Last night I tried to put new music on my ipod, but right as it was ending, it flashed a message saying that it had failed. I checked the music on my ipod and it had indeed failed to update my music. So, I tried resetting it and that resulted in my device being frozen on the language screen. I checked here and decided to try and let the battery wear down and then connecting it to a different computer. So, I tried connecting it to my computer here at work and my computer is failing to recognize the device and saying it has malfunctioned and that I should replace it. I've tried resetting it and then reconnecting it to the computer and that has failed. I re-installed iTunes and then reconnected the ipod and that has failed. (Yes, I'm productive at work today) Do I need to send it in to be repaired? It's only a year old. It was working exquisitely prior to me trying to put new music on it.

I have a 30GB iPod...last night it froze for the 2nd time. I am using it on my motorcycle when this happens...attached to a "2 Wheel Tunes" stereo system. Is it freezing because of the vibration of the bike? Any answers...from ANYBODY will be greatly appreciated!!

  • 2 ipod nanos - frozen on language screen

We have 4 total ipods and 2 from 2008 (4th gen) are both stuck on the language screen. I have tried to reset both (multiple times), restoring, using different ports, updated to latest itunes, tape, etc. It seems strange that the earlier models are working perfectly fine. What can I do to get them unfrozen! I'm very frustrated!

  • Ipod frozen on language

My ipod nano remains frozen despite following all reset directions and installing new ipod software udater 2006. My nano remains frozen on "language" screen with "English" highlighted. Prior to installing the updater, it was frozen on the menu screen with "music" highlighted. It is charged to full power. My computer and itunes recognizes it and will download songs to it, according to my computer.
I'm not sure what to do next.

    Well you said....
"Then the "language" screen reappears and I'm frozen there again."
.....so I thought your iPod was frozen on that screen. That's what you've been saying throughout this thread without any mention of the iPod screen turning off after 30 seconds.
However, since the instructions about leaving the iPod to drain for 24 hours are contained in the Apple document "My iPod won't turn on", I think it applies to your situation also.
If this doesn't solve the issue, it needs service, or at least visit an Apple store and let them take a look.

  • IPod Nano 4G frozen at language screen. Tried holding down menu-click without success. Have gone through restore process, but it continues to stick at the language screen. Intel iMac 3ghz, OS X 10.6.7, iTunes 10.3.1 (55).

I have a frozen iPod Nano 4G. After syncing it gets stuck at the language screen and cannot proceed any further.
I have tried holding down the Menu and click buttons for >6 seconds, without luck. Have reset to factory settings and re-syncd, but it keeps getting stuck at the language screen.
I suspect it is the latest version of iTunes causing the problem, as I just installed it a couple of days ago and this is the first sync since the update.

+Do you have access to, another Firewire enabled Mac, that you could use, to attempt a retrieval of data, using Firewire Target Disk Mode?+
A question on this Firewire Target Disk Mode - If I could get access to another Firewire enabled Mac and connected the two together, host #2 to Target #1, with a Firewire cable (6-pin to 6-pin), and power the two up, even though #1 would not be booted up to the desktop but just have the hard drive powered up, would the hard drive of #1 be accessible to #2? If so, would I be able to perform any repairs or do anything to the drive to enable it to bootup the #1 computer? This would be similar to when I remove and hook up a 2.5" IDE-ATA PC laptop hard drive to another PC computer, usually a desktop, via a drive adapter and USB 2.0 cable, as an external drive. When I do this in a PC, it's usually one that is unable to boot up to Windows due to malware or other problems. I am able to see the files and folders on the #1 computer's hdd and then clean out any malware (virus/spyware), or add/replace any corrupt/damaged Windows files that might be keeping the #1 computer from booting up. After that, I can usually return the hdd to the #1 computer and boot up normally to finish any clean up or change any settings.
I had considered taking the hdd out of this damaged iMac computer and attempting to hook it up with a PC, but after seeing how difficult it is to get to this hdd and not sure of what I'd do when and if I did get the two connected together, I put the idea way back as a last resort. I wasn't sure I'd even be able to see any folders or files on the Mac hdd due to the differences between OS X and WinXP. And, after reading that Macs aren't susceptible to malware, I didn't know what I would be accomplishing.

  • My ipod classic has frozen on language screen going to restore or reset does not help

My Ipod classic has frozen on the language screen. Resetting ipod has no effect and going to reset of restore on I tunes also has no effect. Anyone with any ideas.

If restoring has not helped then it is a hardware problem and you will need to get it serviced.

  • Ipod stuck on language screen

So I just wanted to hook up my new 5g, 30gig Ipod and it is stuck on the language screen where it asks to select a language. I tried pressing the play, center button, even checking the hold button. The ipod is charged what am I missing thanks

Out of curiosity, did either or both of you use the iPod before connecting it to your computer? Or did you just take it out of the box and plug it into your computer when this happened?

  • IPOD Stuck on Language Screen after restoring

My IPOD, a 30GB video IPOD purchased a few years ago, has been getting stuck and not able to go further for the past couple days. I tried all the options and ended up doing a restore - but the restore has caused it to lock on the Language Screen.
I have tried everything - I read online that it may be broken inside but I haven't dropped it or anything and it was working find? Totaly confused and Upset!

See if you can find a find using a Mac computer, and to a Restore there.

  • IPod frozen on diagnostic screen

For a few days my iPod has been frozen on a screen I've never seen before. It says "Accessorize Test" across the top and below it says:
    Please plug FW
    LCD IC : 1
    FWPWR : 0
None of this makes any sense to me, and, like I said, I've never seen this screen before. I've tried resetting my iPod, but it won't respond. I've plugged it into the computer as well as a wall charger, but to no avail. I've run out of ideas and I'm hoping someone can help me!

My 80 gig buzzes and clicks when I try to use it. Someimtes plays a bit of a song, then stops. When plugged into the computer it does not show up in itunes. If I go to My Computer it might show up as my f drive. If I click on it, it freezes every program that is running, including the My Computer window. Doesn't work in any of three players we have. Worked in all of them a week ago. Yes, we did update itunes. Yes, we tried to restore. Bootom line, if I plug it in, it freezes anything that is running as soon as I click on the ipod. SO we can't take any other correctie steps. Oooh. It just gave me a frowny face and sent me here to itunes support. And why isn't there a genius online instaed of user forums? Any hints? • IPod: Frozen at boot screen...for 14+ HOURS!

Last night, at 10:00 P.M., I rebooted my iPod Touch (1st gen.) because some apps were crashing. However, as of right now, over *14 hours* later, my iPod Touch is STILL in the boot screen, with the Apple logo frozen on the screen. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

    I have the same problem!
When I plug it in, iTunes doesn't detect it, and when it makes the little beeping sound, it just doesn't respond. I do not want to get a new iTouch!

  • I tried to restore my ipod touch because i forgot the password, but computer says download not complete. How do I get my ipod to work?

My computer will not let me restore my i pod touch. My daughter forgot the password and we have not been able to use it. Someone told me to restore it, I tried and the computer looks like it is downloading for a couple of minutes but then says download not complete.

    Try here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Also include manually placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then try a restore
Then try DFU mode and restore.

Further, try another computer to help determine if yu have a compter or iPod problem.
