IPod frozen needs recharging

Question

Okay my iPod was working just fine up till now -- its a new 80 GB video iPod. I was using it to play a movie on my television -- have the iPod AV cable also and the battery ran very low. Now I plug it in to charge and the while the iPod is still on it does not look like its charging. It is not in sleep mode it is active but none of the buttons are responding.
I plug it in to charge and nothing is happening. What can I do? I can't even turn it off to conserve remaining battery. It froze when I was trying to rewind the movie I had watched earlier.

Maybe you saw my cry for help yesterday, my screen froze, illuminated, but nothing else, not battery life meter, no apple logo, nothing. I tried re-setting it until I was blue in the face, each time the light went out, but seconds later it came back on. I let the battery discharge fully, plugged it into the charger, still blank but illuminated screen, but this time when I reset, it worked, the apple logo appeared and all seemed well. I listened to a couple of songs then switched it off. I tried to swith it on again but nothing happened, I did the reset procedure and the darned thing went onto the illuminated screen again. I left it for the rest of the night. This morning I plugged it into the mains and hey presto, the apple symbol came on immediately, I turned it on and all the menues came up. I carefully transferred the connection to the computer, set up iTunes and selected the iPod, the online diagnostic said all was well. I am now leaving it connected until it is fully charged. I think these things don't like low battery power. a bit like myself. Good Luck.
