Ipod frozen on Do Not Disconnect and Lock symbol is on screen

I didn't realize that my IPOD was in the "hold/lock" position when I plugged into my computer. I got a message when Itunes opened that said I had to reset my ipod, but i can't do anything. Its frozen on the Do Not Disconnect screen and the "lock" symbol is in the upper lefthand corner. I have tried to reset with the Menu & scroll button but NOTHING. It's just frozen.
Help.

Your issue sounds almost exactly like what happened to my iPod. Have you disconnected your iPod from the computer and the image still remains frozen? Or is it still connected? If it is still connected, reset your iPod from iTunes. When it's plugged in, iPod should appear under devices and there should be an option to "Restore iPod".

  • My iPod frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ?

My iPod seems to be frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ? Eventually I did disconnect. It's remains frozen and shows almost full charge.

I'm having similar problems. Here is exactly what happens to me:
I dock the iPod (I believe it is the 5th gen model, one of the first to play videos). Sometimes it syncs properly sometimes not. It will add songs not on my iPod, but it won't update the play count, last played, etc. The problem was fixed when I updated to a new version of iTunes (I believe it was 7.2 at the time, I could be wrong). So I played it off just being an iTunes issue. Well, with 2 updates since then, it has done it yet again. I've tried to restart the iPod using the menu+select key. It will work to remove the iPod, but it won't help in the future. The only way I can remove the iPod is to click on "Safely Remove Hardware." I know this isn't good for the iPod, but this is the only way that I can get the "Do not disconnect" icon off my iPod. Also, I tried to click "Eject iPod" (I've used this several times in emergency cases and worked wonders) but I get a message saying "iPod is in use by another windows program." I couldn't imagine what program is using my iPod. As far as I know, iTunes is the only program that can use the iPod on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPod stuck in "do not disconnect" and NOT recognized by iTunes

I updated to 7.1.1.... and my iPod is not stuck in "do Not disconnect" and not recognized by iTunes.
I have tried the Toshiba "Safely Remove Hardware" -- and selecting the iPOD -- but, notice comes back "cannot disconnect now because a program is accessing the device."
Anyone know where I can go from here??? Thanks very much.

  • My Ipod keeps saying "Do not disconnect" and the update ipod is not working

    Hi,
I just got my ipod nano a couple of days ago and after loading the itunes and then plugging in the ipod i unplugged it when it said do not disconnect without thinking. Now when i plug in my nano it keeps saying do not disconnect and although the ipod symbol appears on the itunes, no instructions have popped up to explain how the music transfers even though it says it in the booklet and when i click file the update ipod button isn't clickable. I'm just wondering if there's anything i could do

  • "Do Not Disconnect"  and Locks UP

Everytime I plug in my nano it gets locked on "Do Not Dissconnect" I have to reset to get it to do anything. I am trying to put purchased music on it but its just not working. Any ideas???????

Me too. I havn't even used my ipod since getting it for Christmas. It has been plugged into the USB for three days and all it says is "DO NOT DISCONNECT" If I do disconnect is as I have done in the past a message appears to refer to itunes/nano/support or something like that. I do so, plug in the ipod and then the message appears on screen that an ipod in restore state has been detected. I try the f R's and still nothing cures it.

  • HELP!! iPod frozen w/ do not disconnect message

My 60gb iPod was not showing up on my computer, but the screen still said do not disconnect. I have read on here that it is ok to disconnect it if the hard drive can be heard running. Well, I disconnected it, and now it's frozen. What do I do?!?!

    Try a Reset.
To reset your 5th generation iPod with video:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

  • IPod frozen in Do Not Disconnect mode

My iPod froze as I was updating it. I could not get it out of Do Not Disconnect mode. I had to disconnect it. Now it is stuck in that mode and my Mac won't recognise it when I lug it in. I have tried holding down the menu and select buttons, but nothing. I want to reset it but can't get the computer to recognise that it is there. Any help gratefully recieved

There is a lot of that going around. The first thing I would try is launching Disk Utility and "verify" the iPod to see if it reports any problems. If it does, you will probably need to restore your iPod.

  • Ipod frozen on Do Not Disconnect

I have connected my ipod to my pc to update, which it has done, this is not the first time is has been connected to this computer. iTunes sayd that the update is complete but my ipod say do not disconnect. When i press eject iPod from iTunes it says that "the iPod cannot be ejected because it containts files that are in use by another application" as far as I can tell no over programs should be using it. I've even tried safely remove hardware but it says the device is in use.
    Help please.

Thanks to you both - I seriously can't live without the thing - so you can imagine my relief that it worked!:-)
Incidently - even though my ipod shows as connected in my itunes and i can install music on it - I haven't registered it with ipod updater and such on my laptop - its just 'ipod' - for future problems it's probably a good idea for me to register it, or does it not make a difference? I have it registered on my Microsoft laptop (which i rarely use) - but that shouldn't make a difference to re-installing ipod should it?

  • 80G ipod is frozen on 'Do not Disconnect' and itunes doesn't recognize it

I tried to sync my ipod, but the device became frozen and thinks it's still on hold. Can't restart device, and can't eject device because the device is not found in itunes or in my applications. Usually when i plug in the device with my USB, itunes opens and begins syncing automatically, but itunes doesn't even open now. I've already tried:
    restarting computer (twice)
checking for and installing all updates (once)
restarting ipod (holding pause + menu for 10 seconds) (three times)
connecting and reconnecting device (a bunch of times)
My partner just took the frozen ipod to his office to connect to his macbook pro to see if anything happens there. Any advice?

    I am in the same boat - trying to fix an ipod for a friend. I can see it on the desktop but iTunes wont see it. I read a post that said the 5th gens have hard drive issues. One way to find out, put it in the freezer for 30-60 minutes. Then iTunes finds it. Hard drive problem. {I do not support this advice, but only share what I found via a google search.}
First check out this link to try the reset again

  • I need some help with my ipod-the screen is frozen on do not disconnect

this morning i went to sync my ipod with itunes to update it but when i plugged it in to my computer it said do not disconnect but the screen froze before it even connected to itunes.... now the screen is frozen on do not disconnect and the ipod won't even turn off. anyone have any suggestions?

Try Resetting your iPod. Toggle the hold switch off and on a few times then hold down the MENU and SELECT (centre) buttons for five or ten seconds until you see the Apple logo appear then the menu button to go to the normal display: iPod isn't responding it appears to be frozen

  • Why my ipodmy ipod displays do not disconnect and wont sync but can be restored?

why my ipodmy ipod displays do not disconnect and wont sync but can be restored?

If it is a problem than I have it too. Mine does the
same as long as I don't stop the device via the
little green arrow icon (USB manager) down by the
    clock.
I never really need to use the Ipod when it is hooked
into the PC because everything is done through
iTunes. I just thought it said "do not disconnect"
because it was associated with both iTunes and the PC
    as a hard disk.
If I stop the device or "eject" the iPod, it goes
from do not disconnect to the normal menu tree.
So when you take the USB cable out of the iPod, it goes back to normal?
If that's what you mean, mine does that too.
It's just that I read that if you remove the USB cable from your iPod while it says 'do not disconnect', it can wipe all your music....

Have you tried resetting your iPod while connected? Then, unplug it, and connect it again.
Have you tried putting your iPod into disk mode, then connecting it to your computer again?

  • Did not listen to 'do not disconnect' and now there's a noise and a sad ipo

It all started when I was in a hurry and ejected my ipod from itunes. As usual, it was removed from the Source list but my ipod still said 'do not disconnect.' I unplugged it and left. Hours later I was at my friends house and plugged it into her laptop to get some of her songs. It wasn't recognized in her Source list and it started to make weird, loud, grinding noises. I reset it and the sad ipod face guy came up. I went to the support page and it said to fully charge it before anything else. So, all last night I charged it and it continued to make that horrible noise all night. I went back to the 5 R's and tried all of them. I finally went to restore it but it's showing that icon that means that it isn't charged enough for the computer to recognize it. Similarily, the ipod updater keeps asking me to plug in an ipod, even though it's plugged in. Now, every couple of minutes, as my ipod is plugged in to my comp via USB, the apple icon shows up, it makes that noise and then the sad guy pops up. What should I do? (I apologize for the length but there's just so much going on with this.)

Strange noises are a telltale sign of hardware failure. If you want to be totally sure that your iPod is a baddie, reset your iPod, and when the apple logo is showing, press and hold the rewind and clicker buttons for several seconds. When you do this, the iPod should "chirp" and the apple will reverse. Now it's in diagnostic mode. After doing this, try to run the automatic tests. (note that when in this mode, the trackpad doesn't work, you have to use the rewind and fast forward buttons to go back and forth). Have iPod plugged in when doing this. If you end up with a sad iPod icon, then it needs to be sent in...
