Ipod frozen on Do Not Disconnect

I have connected my ipod to my pc to update, which it has done, this is not the first time is has been connected to this computer. iTunes sayd that the update is complete but my ipod say do not disconnect. When i press eject iPod from iTunes it says that "the iPod cannot be ejected because it containts files that are in use by another application" as far as I can tell no over programs should be using it. I've even tried safely remove hardware but it says the device is in use.
Help please.

Thanks to you both - I seriously can't live without the thing - so you can imagine my relief that it worked!:-)
Incidently - even though my ipod shows as connected in my itunes and i can install music on it - I haven't registered it with ipod updater and such on my laptop - its just 'ipod' - for future problems it's probably a good idea for me to register it, or does it not make a difference? I have it registered on my Microsoft laptop (which i rarely use) - but that shouldn't make a difference to re-installing ipod should it?

  • My iPod frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ?

My iPod seems to be frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ? Eventually I did disconnect. It's remains frozen and shows almost full charge.

I'm having similar problems. Here is exactly what happens to me:
I dock the iPod (I believe it is the 5th gen model, one of the first to play videos). Sometimes it syncs properly sometimes not. It will add songs not on my iPod, but it won't update the play count, last played, etc. The problem was fixed when I updated to a new version of iTunes (I believe it was 7.2 at the time, I could be wrong). So I played it off just being an iTunes issue. Well, with 2 updates since then, it has done it yet again. I've tried to restart the iPod using the menu+select key. It will work to remove the iPod, but it won't help in the future. The only way I can remove the iPod is to click on "Safely Remove Hardware." I know this isn't good for the iPod, but this is the only way that I can get the "Do not disconnect" icon off my iPod. Also, I tried to click "Eject iPod" (I've used this several times in emergency cases and worked wonders) but I get a message saying "iPod is in use by another windows program." I couldn't imagine what program is using my iPod. As far as I know, iTunes is the only program that can use the iPod on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • HELP!! iPod frozen w/ do not disconnect message

My 60gb iPod was not showing up on my computer, but the screen still said do not disconnect. I have read on here that it is ok to disconnect it if the hard drive can be heard running. Well, I disconnected it, and now it's frozen. What do I do?!?!

    Try a Reset.
To reset your 5th generation iPod with video:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

  • Ipod frozen on Do Not Disconnect and Lock symbol is on screen

I didn't realize that my IPOD was in the "hold/lock" position when I plugged into my computer. I got a message when Itunes opened that said I had to reset my ipod, but i can't do anything. Its frozen on the Do Not Disconnect screen and the "lock" symbol is in the upper lefthand corner. I have tried to reset with the Menu & scroll button but NOTHING. It's just frozen.

Your issue sounds almost exactly like what happened to my iPod. Have you disconnected your iPod from the computer and the image still remains frozen? Or is it still connected? If it is still connected, reset your iPod from iTunes. When it's plugged in, iPod should appear under devices and there should be an option to "Restore iPod".

  • IPod frozen in Do Not Disconnect mode

My iPod froze as I was updating it. I could not get it out of Do Not Disconnect mode. I had to disconnect it. Now it is stuck in that mode and my Mac won't recognise it when I lug it in. I have tried holding down the menu and select buttons, but nothing. I want to reset it but can't get the computer to recognise that it is there. Any help gratefully recieved

There is a lot of that going around. The first thing I would try is launching Disk Utility and "verify" the iPod to see if it reports any problems. If it does, you will probably need to restore your iPod.

  • I need some help with my ipod-the screen is frozen on do not disconnect

Try Resetting your iPod. Toggle the hold switch off and on a few times then hold down the MENU and SELECT (centre) buttons for five or ten seconds until you see the Apple logo appear then the menu button to go to the normal display: iPod isn't responding it appears to be frozen

  • IPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even when set to automatic.

iPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even though iTunes says "Update is Complete" and even when set to automatic update. It mounts both in iTunes and on the Desktop.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I have alredy tried rebooting both the iPod and computer.
    Thanks.

    Patrick,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Sounds like you've got Disk Use enabled. Try unchecking the Box "Enable Disk Use" under iTunes>Preferences>iPod Tab.

  • IPOD *ALWAYS* flashes DO NOT DISCONNECT

IPOD ALWAYS flashes DO NOT DISCONNECT when connected to my computer. How do I fix that??

Personally I would, from the information you have given, reset my iPod and/or restore it and then try it again. If this still happens repeat the process but re-install iTunes and QT.
I know this is not a quick resolve but, personally, these things must be done before doing much else since it could be a number of reasons this could be happening - try the more obvious approach first (if you haven't already). If this still does not work then I will not be able to help, there are others here that certainly know more than I do - failing that visit an Apple Store if possible since I would have a guess at stating its more an iPod problem than the software on your computer.

  • Frozen in "Do Not Disconnect" iTunes doesn't see iPod

I have never had one bit of trouble with my iPod until today. I plugged it in, the Do Not Disconnect comes up, the clock is frozen, no charging happening and iTunes doesn't see the iPod. I tried the "restart" and nothing is working. What do I do?
I haven't upgraded to iTunes 8.1 yet, would that help?
    HELP!

OK, so I tried the Reset again. Still didn't work. THEN I saw this:
    Tip:
+If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.+
Tried it again and now it's all better.

  • IPod cannot be restored, screen frozen on "do not disconnect".

I've had my iPod (30GB Video) for over a year now and have had no problems until now with it.
I turned it on and had a message in a smaller/different font saying something along the lines of my iPod needing to be connected to iTunes to be restored.
I connected my iPod to my computer and iTunes recognised the iPod and that it needed to be restored. It went to restore it and an error message came up saying that it couldn't be. The screen is now frozen with the do not disconnect symbol with the text underneath, but not in colour or in the usual writing. The symbol isn't flashing and the battery bars aren't moving. The background light is still on although its very dull.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the USB drive, with everything else removed.. switched to different USB ports and neither iTunes nor my computer recognises the iPod anymore. When I plug it back onto my computer, windows says that the device has malfunctioned and that it is unable to recognise it. It doesn't show up in disk management and I have tried following the steps from: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 but that hasn't done anything.
    Help?
    Thanks in advance..

Yeah. After iTunes attempted to restore it, it removed my iPod from the left-hand side menu and froze on this screen. This is when I unplugged it and tried again but it didn't recognise it at all and still won't.
I've followed your advice to unfreeze the screen which has worked and now I have been able to get iTunes to recognise it again. It restores my iPod, then it resets it. I'm meant to be seeing my iPod reappear on the left-hand side but when the iPod restarts itself, it says it has to be restored and the cycle continues.
I also noticed it reallocated itself to drive K: when its usually drive J:. I've changed it back to J but it hasn't made a difference. Still on that very basic text with no colour.

  • Ipod is frozen on do not disconnect screen....

i seriously don't know what to do with m ipod anymore. it's a 5 gen ipod video that i've had for less than a year. today i tried to sync it to my computer which is a sony vaio with windows xp and it got stuck on the do not disconnect screen. i plugged the ipod in and waited for itunes to open, which it didn't(i waited a long long time). so i then shut down my pc thinking the do not disconnect screen would go away after the pc was shut down...but it didn't. i tried rebooting my ipod MANY times and that didn't work. I tried plugging it in different usb ports on my pc and it doesn't show up in itunes. it shows up in my computer as a 'removeable disk' not an ipod as well. i don't know what to do...all i wanna do is format it back to factory settings so i can use it on my new pc(a brand new imac..<3) does anyone have any ideas? thanks.<br>
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Even when its not connected..I went through the same thing my Ipod freezes alot(5thgen) nor will it show vidoe or pics not even podcast. What I did was got a programm call TUNE TRANSFER FOR ipod. With this you can backup anything on your ipod so you can then restore it. During a freeze your computer doesnt recognize the ipod at all.No connection. You need to reset your Ipod but not traditionall. 1- toggle hold switch 10 times each direction.(left/right)immediatly after your last toggle(be sure the toggle isnt on hold)
2-hold menu and select buttons for 15 seconds toggle periodically. I hopes that helped if not messege me back. make sure you have the latest Itunes.
    GOOD LUCK

  • IPod 5th Gen. frozen on "Do Not disconnect" and computer won't recognize it

I tried to sync my iPod and ever since I plugged it in to my iBook G4 computer it is displaying the "Do Not Disconnect" screen. My computer does not recognize it - neither in iTunes or on Finder. I have disconnected it twice, plugged it back in twice and this seems to have absolutely no effect. Pressing the buttons on the iPod is equally useless. Any ideas?
    Thank you.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are.
    Still no joy? See these.
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop.
iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X.
iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes.
    Try it in disk mode.

  • Not displaying in PC or Itunes but frozen on "Do Not Disconnect" message

When I tried to sync my year old 5th generation iPod this morning, nothing happened. iTunes is not showing it, neither is my computer but yet now there is a frozen "Do Not Disconnect" message on the iPod's. screen. Since iTunes won't recognize my iPod, I can not eject it properly. So here it's sitting connected to the USB cord.
    Help would really be appreciated.

Try Resetting your iPod. Toggle the hold switch off and on a few times then hold down the MENU and SELECT (centre) buttons for five or ten seconds until you see the Apple logo appear then the menu button to go to the normal display: iPod isn't responding it appears to be frozen

  • Ipod frozen. Will not restore or turn off

I dropped my ipod early this morning and there's a dent on the back and it stays at the song I was listening to when it dropped.
It won't come off screen and I have tried everything to get it restored.
My media tech teacher told me to go ahead and send it to Apple but I want to check with everyone here first before I send my money to Apple.
Is there anyhing else that I can do and has someone else experienced this?

Ok Ok. Here let me explain it more in detail because I have to sleep now.
The Ipod is on the USB Port. It still has the song on it. No "Do Not Disconnect" or Sad Ipod or whatever.
It still has the song on the screen, the time when it stopped. Its frozen. I tried to restart it and restore it but there is no luck.
I also found my click wheel is movable now. Everytime I push it up really hard, it gets stuck and I can't push anything until I push it back down. Could that have something to do with it?
