Ipod frozen on lock mode

My ipod is frozen on lock mode and i have a big flight in a few hours what do i do??  My computer won't even reconize when my ipod is plugged in and neither does my ipod.

Important: If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, it may be because iPod is paused or the Hold switch is in the locked position. If so, a lock symbol appears on the screen. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and check the screen.
If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, the steps to reset it vary by model. You can easily tell which iPod model you have if you're not sure.

To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including:
iPod nano (4th generation)
iPod nano (3rd generation)
iPod nano (2nd generation)
iPod nano
iPod classic iPod (5th generation)
iPod with color display (iPod photo)
iPod (Click Wheel)
iPod mini
iPod mini (2nd generation)
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector)
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.
When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time are preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.
To reset iPod shuffle:
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position.
Tip: When iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible.
Wait 5 seconds.
Move the switch to the play in order or the shuffle position. The green stripe will be visible in either position. For iPod shuffle (2nd generation), slide the power switch on (and you can see the green stripe).

  • HELP! nano frozen in lock mode

    Hi there,
While listening to my nano yesterday, as always I put it on hold to save power, and I accidentally dropped it on the floor face-down. Since then, the click wheel has been frozen in lock mode and is unresponsive. I have tried toggling the hold button back and forth many times, as well as trying to restart my ipod, in addition to letting it play until the point the battery dies and then connecting it to power (I read this may help?), all to no avail.
Are there any ideas as to how to solve this problem? Will this problem just stop on its own?
    Please help! Thanks in advance.

Update: I just went upstairs to try the hold switch again, and I had this thought: this whole problem started when I dropped my iPod while it was on hold, so why can't I drop it again? So I smacked it (when I say smack, I really mean a little harder than a tap) a couple times on a hard surface and guess what? It works again! I'm sure this didn't solve the problem long-term and that I will need to get it repaired in the near future, but for now my problem is solved! I'm kind of afraid to touch the hold button now, though.
I might still send it in for repair just to avoid this happening again in the future, but only if it happens again in the next couple days/weeks.

  • IPod is on LOCKED MODE but I don't remember the password - What should I do

My ipod turned itself on lock mode and I don't remember assign it any password. What should I do ?

Connect the iPod to the main computer you use it with (if you use it with more than one, this is the first one it was connected to) and open iTunes. Then disconnect iPod from the computer, it should be unlocked: iPod: How to use the Screen Lock
If you can't get it unlocked you'll need to restore it. Just be aware that restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • HT201263 iPod frozen in recovery mode after an update

During the latest OS update there was an error and the device froze in recovery mode.  I tried the recovery process several times but no result. Nothing will fix it or get my iPod out of recovery mode. I tried every suggestions I could get from these posts.  My device is no longer recognized by Windows or iTune.
    I am out of ideas.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Nano 3g frozen in locked mode

Today while trying to update my music my Ipod froze. I tried to lock and unlock it. Now it is stuck in pause mode with the lock icon on the screen. I can't get it to unlock, play, turn off, nothing. It is stuck on and completely unresponsive. Any Ideas?

That would be great if the unlock button responded.
I have a frozen display, unlocking does not enable the buttons to allow reset and it will not mount.
And I have study material in it for my exam later this week...annoying but I can get other copies.
I think I will have to wait for the battery to go flat - the screen is still on so I hope this only takes a day or two.

  • IPod seems in "locked" mode when connected to iTunes

When I connect my 5th gen. iPod to my computer, I am not able to access the music or movies on the iPod itself when I click on my iPod in the source section of iTunes. I can access my library and other sources, but when I select to look at my actual iPod, everything in the window is grey and I can't select anything within it. There is also a lock next to how much space is available on my iPod, which has over 45 GB left over. Due to this, when I import songs or movies, the only way I can transfer these files to the iPod is to select "file, Update iPod," which works, but is annoying. I am used to being able to just drag new files onto my iPod and having them upload that way, but as everything is grey, I can't access this source folder. HELP PLEASE!

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to be aware of when manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
Your iPod is set to automatically update, change it to manual and you'll be able to access it directly

  • IPod frozen on lock.. cannot unlock

I had the slider on lock, and connected it to my PC. Now, iTunes doesn't show it on the source list, I cannot unlock it either, and it is frozen with the lock icon showing and the screen lit.
To compound matters, my click button (centre on wheel) is broken, so I can't auto reset by following the 5R method.
Connecting to my PC does not auto unlock it either... should I let the battery run out and hope that works? Or is there anything else I can do??

If it says it's on hold and it's frozen on the page of the song you were listening to, I suggest you press the center button with something strong like pen so you won't hurt yourself, and also press the menu button at the same time. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you. Mine, though a classic, still has similar issue; often, it freezes when I plug it into the computer and then the center button, I have to kill my finger just to get it to work since it's seems to have been presed all the way in or something. Afterwards, try to plug it into your computer. I really hope this helps. If it doesn't, I suggest you wet it XD. Mine got wet and stopped working so I went to get it checked a year later (it was two years old by then) and they said since it got wet, it's not considered my fault and gave me a new one for way cheaper. They also offered 20% off any other iPod in they had in stock. Just saying...check if where the headphones go, the little white spot in the middle is red-that indicates whether it's gotten wet or not.

  • Ipod stuck in lock mode and won't connect to Windows computer

My Ipod is stuck on the lock position and won't connect to my computer when I plug it in. The hold switch moves back and forth just fine and it was working perfectly yesterday. It's the classic nano that's square. It's stuck on a song that I used as my alarm yesterday morning. I haven't turned it on since then and when I pushed the on switch, it went to the screen but then wouldn't do anything else. I've tried to hold down the menu and middle button while moving the hold switch, but it didn't work. Please help!

I fixed it! I had to switch the hold button from on to off to on again and then held the menu and middle button down at the same time. It works just fine now!

  • HELP: Ipod frozen in diagnostic mode, "hpdetect hp fail"

Hi there - any help on this would be highly appreciated - my ipod began displaying the "unhappy ipod" sign and when I plugged it in to my computer, windows said it had malfunctioned and needed resetting. I tried resetting it manually (menu and select) and then by fluke managed to enter diagnostic mode. Tried going into reset, but it didn't appear to do anything, went into HP TEST, and it came up as HPDETECT HP FAIL, and has not budged since. I can't seem to exit diagnostic mode, go onto any other tests or reset it. There are no mechanical noises coming from it either. Any ideas how to get out of this and how to get my ipod working again?

The sad iPod icon is almost certainly indicative of a hard drive failure which the diagnostic test would seem to confirm.
    This iPod needs service.

  • Ipod frozen in locked position

My ipod froze in the locked position this am. Staying continously lit and I am afraid it will ruin my screen before I can get this fixed. Can't seem to even restore the ipod (my computer freezes up when I try). Should I just take it to someone?

How are we gonna fix this? Whenever I choose songs on my iPod then select it, while I'm in lying position(which makes the iPod kind of forward-tilted), a song won't play then when I select a new song, it will randomly freeze. I've resetted it twice , once last night and one today. I wonder what causes this and it's kind of strange that it only happens when I play Colbie Caillat's album. Arrrghh! I'm pretty sure the MP3's aren't the problem cuz I ripped them of from iTunes.
    Somebody help us!
