IPod full of music... doesnt show up on ipod

So I got my new 60gig 5G ipod yesterday, after playing around with the video for a few hours I started transferring my music library to the ipod, which worked fine. I listened to it for a while last night and then went to bed. I woke up this morning, plugged it into the computer and everything worked as it should. I clicked on the ipod, and it showed all the songs and videos I had on there. then I went back to my library and dragged and dropped some more songs to the ipod and walked away. I cam back 1/2 hour later.. and itunes had the dialog "ipod setup assistant" asking me to name my ipod and select to auto sync and all that, like when i first took it out of the box.
So i hit cancel, and clicked on the ipod. it showed nothing in the ipod's library, yet it says i have used 17 gigs of space. i disconnected the ipod and settings>about.. it says:
0 songs
0 photos
0 videos
capacity 55.6 GB
available 38.5 GB
so then i connected the ipod up to the computer and checked the hidden folders where all the music and such is stored, and the files are there.
I decided to try to add a few more songs. it transferred them ok and showed them on the ipod in itunes. then i disconnected and it still said there were no songs on the ipod (but still only 38 GB available).
anyone know why this happened? has this happened to anyone else?

I have an old 4th Gen iPod, and I was having similiar problems. One thing I noticed is that I had an Anti-Spyware program run while my iPod was connected and at one point it detected the iPod, but the spyware was called something like ()()(). Something nameless. What happened is that the Spyware treated my iPod songs as spyware and when i deleted all that it like corrupted my songs. I had to completely reset it to factory settings. The bad thing was i didn't save my music. I had to start from scratch. I do not recommend running an Anti-spyware while your iPod is plugged in. If you got scans scheduled maybe reschedule them or manually do it. This was on a PC however. Not MAC. Sorry for making you read this and telling you that at the end.

Please help! ipod is full but music isnt showing up

hello... i am currently travelling internationally with only my ipod, no back up (45 G of music!). i was uploading photos and all of a sudden the ipod acts as though i have NO music in it at all. when i check the storage size (in itunes and through "my computer") it still shows that it is full of 50+ G of data. Also, the music files appear in the ipod's "hidden files" and can be accessed through a computer. how can i get them to run through the ipod again? i dont have a laptop with me and i just want to listen to my ipod again!
from researching the discussions it seems as though i should restore it, but then i would lose the music that is stored inside and i have no back up to start over with. someone who knows please help! thank you kindly.

have you "reset" the ipod (reset is different from restore and it won't delete the songs on your ipod). if you must restore the ipod, you can probably move the music off the ipod if you can view the hidden files. take a look at this link on moving music off and to computer.

Ipod music doesnt show

Hey guys, just wondering if any one could help me.
An hour ago my iPod Video 30GB(connected to my computer), did a restart thing by itself, dropped out of iTunes and now cannot be read by iTunes. The iPod is blank, no music, photos etc. But the actual music files are still within the ipod_control folder when I access it with My Computer.
Does anyone have any solutions to make the music appear on the iPod? It would be much appreciated
P.S. I am aware a reboot to factory settings may fix this, but my music is not anywhere else, backed up, so I'd rather avoid that if possible.

iTunes as lost there location on your system, either you have moved them thru windows explorer, or the library is corrupt.
If you moved the files, or the drive letter there on has changed you will have to set it back to there original location

I was wondering if anyone could help me, i got a mac mini for christmas, and everything was working great when i first got it... but now, when i use the little controller to select music/pictures/film/dvd everything works fine except music... it only says that i have one song... yet everything works ok when itunes is selected manually??

All you need to do is Re-Sync your music. In iTunes select the iPod under devices and then top center there is a music icon select Sync all Music to my iPod. Then click apply bottom right hand corner and your music will sync.

ok i need help i rip my cds the cds do rip but they dont rip with the name of album so it makes really hard to find them is the any way to change this

iTunes prefs -> Advanced - Importing.
Tick "Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet".
For CDs you have already imported, select the album in iTunes, then menu Advanced -> Get CD track names.

With your iPod connected to your computer and iTunes running, select your iPod form the left pane, click the File menu in top bar, from there select "transfer purchases from iPod"

A 4th gen iPod can not be upgraded to iOS 8. 7.0.2 is the high version it can run.

Try backing it up in iTunes, then restoring software. Back up first, though.

Not if you first do a sync and have iTunes make a backup. However, if your only copy of the iTunes data is in the Touch, then you need to first copy the data to a new iTunes Library using third-party software such as Phone To Mac.

you can connect the iPhone to your mac and import those iPhone photos and videos to iPhoto assuming you have iPhoto. You can create a folder and export all those photos to the Finder. Keep safe somewhere. Also keep the iPhoto library for safe keeping. When you restore your iPhone you can sync all those photos back to the iPhone. so you will lose nothing. Just remember when you export from iPhoto select jpeg for photos and original for videos taken with the iPhone.

Just disconnecting it without ejecting should not cause permanent damage. It may cause data corruption, if iTunes was in the process of syncing at the time. But iTunes should still see the shuffle and (maybe) tell you to Restore it.
Is it possible that the "accident" damaged the USB cable?
Make sure you have done this on the shuffle since the problem occurred

And you should also shut down (power off) the computer, if you have not already.
Have you tried more than one USB port on the computer (not a hub if you use one)? You can also try it with all other USB devices disconnected, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).
If those things do not help, what version of Windows do you use?
