Ipod full with only 65 songs!!!

My recently purchased 4gb Nano Ipod has only 65 songs on it yet the settings say it has used 3.6 gb and only has 600 mb left. It has no fotos or movies. I thought I could get 2,000 songs with no problem.
I use Final cut to edit movies and this recommends that Itunes imports music at 48,000khz ,16 bit and as an AIFF. Could this be bumping up the music file sizes? Any help appreciated

To reach the advertised 2000 songs for a 4 GB iPod, Apple suggests tat your songs be in AAC encoding, bit rate of 128 kbps, and approximately 4-minutes long each.
If you connect your iPod to your computer, and open iTunes, click on your iPod in the Source List (the left panel of iTunes).
Then, click on your iPod's "Music" (not your "Library's" music, but your iPod's). Right-click any song, and click on "Get Info".
Under the "Summary" tab, you should see the information about that song, including format, bit rate, what version of iTunes is was imported from, song length.
If that doesn't seem to be the case, and the "Other" section on your iPod's "Summary" area has an unusual amount of size in it, try restoring your iPod.

  • Why is my 8gb ipod touch full with only 227 songs

Why is my 8GB Ipod touch full with only 227 and nothing else. I also share my itunes with my Iphone, There is only audio on my IPod

Did you post this same question recently?
What is the detail format of the music? Music can be compressed to different degrees. The less compression the more storage each song needs.
Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • My iPod Nano gets full with only 14 songs???

    Hi all
a couple of days ago I got my new 1GB iPod Nano.
Now, the 1GB Nano is supposed to hold up to 240 songs.
    Right?
But what happens with mine is that it gets very quickly filled up and I can’t update it through iTunes!
I tried many things, I even restored it but the problem hasn’t be solved.
Right now, if I go to "settings" "about" it says:
    songs 14
    photos 0
    capacity 892MB
    available 188 KB
    version 1.1.1
    how is this possible?
only 14 songs imported and just 188KB of free space left???
Sorry if this question is naive but I am a newbie to iPods so your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

It's probably because you have the import settings and bitrate set wrong. Look in iTunes under edit/preferences/importing. What does it say in settings and import using? You need to compress your music using either mp3 or aac. If you see AIFF, WAV or Apple Lossless then those formats are going to take way more space than mp3 or aac, especially the first 2 which are raw uncompressed formats. Bear in mind that Apple quotes the number of songs you are able to store on any iPod by using aac at 128kbps for a 4 minute song.

  • Ipod is full with only 143 songs!

My 4GB ipod mini has only 23.1MB left of free space, but it only has 143 songs!!! The majority of my songs are MPEG audio files. I'm assuming that the format is part of the problem. Is there a way to convert the format once the songs are already in itunes? I don't have a way to get most of these songs again! I appreciate help!!! Thanks!
    Danielle

It's not just the codec the file are saved in - check the individual and total file size of the music files.
If your 143 music files are approaching 3.6GBs, then you have them encoded with a very high bit rate. If not, then you may have an iPod memory management problem.
Post back with a bit more details and we can diagnose the issue a bit better.

  • Ipod full after only 130 songs?!

have i got a faulty ipod? finally get it to take cds and now its only holding 130 odd songs? should hold 1500. can anybody help me with this? thanks

In iTunes main library view, right click (or control+click) on the column header bar, where is says name, album, artist, etc., and select "kind". Do it once again and this time select "size". Now you will have two new columns showing you what "kind" of format your songs are in and the "size" of each song.
If they are anything but AAC or MP3 you would want to convert them to one of those two.
To convert them first go to iTunes preferences>advanced>importing and select the "import as..." to either AAC or MP3. Select your bit rate under "Setting" and click OK.
Now sort your songs by clicking on the column header name "Kind" so that they are grouped together by... you guessed it, Kind. Select all the songs you want to convert and then from the menu bar select Advanced>Convert selection to...
Now you will have all of your converted songs duplicated in the library, the original and the converted. Delete the larger originals if you want, or at least uncheck them so they don't get loaded to your iPod.
Let us know if that solves the problem.

  • I have a Ipod nano with only 128 songs (6mb) with no videos or anything but 128 songs..the ipod summary says i have 3.02GB of  "other"...what is this "other" stuff and how can i get rid of it so i can have more songs on my ipod?!

    ..

The Other section on your iPod consists of a number of different things, including album artwork, your iPod's software, files you may be storing externally on it, games, and a few other things. However, it can usually include corrupt files from failed sync operations with iTunes.  Usually the Other section should only be a small fraction of what's stored on your iPod, usually less than 1 GB.
So it sounds like your iPod may be corrupt, in which case you'll need to connect it to iTunes and restore it to factory settings.

  • When I try to sync my iPod with iTunes I can't because it says it's over capacity. It's not. It's a 16 GB iPod, it's only 105 songs on there. No movies or pictures or such. Anybody got a word of advise?

Anybody got a word of advise? I've tried resetting the iPod but get the message that it's not possible cause i'm not connected to internet. I am though. Tried managing music manually. I've tried all the usual stuff.

Go to Settings > General > Usage and see how much is shown available and how much is in "Other".

  • I have a 2GB IPOD with only 385 songs on it.  I downloaded 2 CD's to iTunes but when I try and sync the IPOD I'm getting an error message indicating there isn't enough space.  I thought a 2GB would hold at least 500 songs.

The figures that Apple used to use when saying how many songs coud fit onto any particular iPod were based on a 4 minute song at a Bit Rate of 128Kbps and that's the bit rate that songs sold by iTunes used to be in. However, now the iTunes Store sells songs at 256Kbps (as do many other MP3 stores) - which means that each song now uses twice as much storage space than before.
So if your songs have a bit rate of higher than 128Kbps, and/or they are all longer than four minutes each, that's why 385 songs is filling up your iPod. You can check how much space is being used when the iPod is connected to iTunes Library. Look on the Device panes for the capacity bar at the bottom of the window. How much space is being used by Music?
    The solution is either:
Use iTunes to make 128Kbps versions to go onto your iPod - or,
Sync the iPod using Playlists and then choosing which Playlists you want on it. Smart Playlists may be the answer - you can set Smart Playlists up so that they automatically add and remove songs from your iPod, so that there is a constant change of songs (according to the rules you set)

  • Find my lost ipod touch with only his serial number

how ti find my lost ipod touch with only it serial number?

No, the SN will only help identify the iPod as yours if it is recovered.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • Ipod 20g with only a firewire connector

does anyone know how to connect an ipod to a PC with only a USB port when the ipod does not have a dock connector ?
Where can I get an adapter ?
    HELP!

You'll need to purchase a PCI Firewire card for your PC. For further information and perhaps suggestions on what card to buy, check out the appropriate iPod forum, where you'll be far more likely to get a quick and accurate response (this forum is for pre-PowerMac G3 hardware).
    Good luck.

  • Batt went dead, recharge. Now ipod skips over only itunes songs

Hello and thanks for taking the time to read my problem. My laptop has now had multiple hard drive crashes. 4 to be exact. This last time around I have not downloaded itunes again. My ipod had all my previously purchased music on it as well as copied from CD's. Well the ipod sat for a while and the battery went dead. I recharged the battery and the ipod skips over the itunes songs but not those copied from CD's. Can this be fixed?
I don't want to download itunes and reconnect the ipod because the ipod is already on 4 different hard drives(that no longer exist). I would prefer a different media player than itunes. Any compatible with ipod?
    Thanks.

Authorize your iTunes then sync the iPod.

If you have DRM protected songs, no.

  • 4 GB iPod full with 300 songs

I have a 4 GB nano. I have 385 songs I want to put on it. When I go to my music library on itunes it says they take up 1.32 GB. Then when I go to my ipod which only has 293 songs (because the rest wouldn't fit) it says they take up 1.01 GB of memory, yet it also says the ipod is 3.42 GB full.
I can't figure out what's going on. All of the songs are ripped at 128 kbps and are AAC format. There are no other files on the ipod except music. please help!!
