IPod function fails and music stops

I was coming home from work tonight. When I was listening to music, not doing anything else, music would stop, phone would go back to main screen.
This happened at least a dozen times...in my pocket...in my hand...it would just stop...much like when safari fails (constantly!).
Any tips?

Reset the phone and see if it does it again.

  • IPhone Apps and Music Stop Working

I've had this happen several times a week over the past year--getting tired of it. I will go to use my iPhone, either to play music, use an App, or make a phone call, and it just stops working. All of these things go wrong at the same time.
    1. The iPod app opens and I see the screen art. But when I hit the "play button", the music won't play--the "pause" button quickly appears and then becomes the "play" button again.
    2. When I select an app to open, it opens briefly and then immediately returns to the main iPhone screen. The only "apps" that will open are the apps that came with the iPhone (clock, calendar, etc.).
    3. Even though I have network coverage, my phone will not connect (can't make or receive calls, connect to the internet, or receive/send e-mail).
Since these things all happen at the same time, I think they're related. I usually have to turn off/on the phone several times to clear it out--is very frustrating when I need to make a phone call and can't. Any "permanent" fixes??
    Thanks!!

Have you tried resetting the iPhone? Push and hold the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears. If that doesn't help try restoring it from backup. If that still doesn't work you might have to restore as new.

  • Updating my iPod Touch failed and now the screen is permanently lit with a white Apple logo above what appeares to be a download indicator bar. Now totally unresponsive and non-detectable by iTunes or my PC!

Hi, Can anyone help. Updating my iPod via iTunes failed and now shows a permanently lit screeen witrh a white apple logo above what appears to be an empty download bar indicator.
Neither iTunes or my PC will recognise or detect it wehen commected to the USB port.
All iPod buttons are responsive, including diagnostics mode (Menu+Sleep buttons).
    Any ideas/suggestions?

    Hi IIIaass
    That's sorted it, thanks.
I don't think I actually managed to get it into DFU mode, although not too sure what that is, but following Karthik's advice and although not quite getting the response from my iPod, as it suggested, it eventually came up with the USB piccy and iTunes icon. From there on everything fell into place and it is currently Synching with iTunes after having done a restore.
    Bravo !!

  • Volume controls don't work in Messages iOS 8. And music stops playing when I open Messages

My volume buttons don't work when I'm in Messages on iOS 8, I can't change the ringer or headphone volume. More annoyingly music stops playing when I open Messages, but I can start it again. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

For all of you, the first thing to do when these things happen after an update, is to close all your open apps and reset. This will cure your ills 99.9% of the time:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • IPhoto causing 20-30 second hangs - spinning beach ball and music stops

Very often when I browse through my pictures, suddenly iPhoto will freeze, the beach ball appears and if I attempt to use other programs the entire system freezes. If I'm playing music in iTunes, it will pause and then restart after 20-30 secs when iPhoto and the rest of the system suddenly works again as if nothing happened.
Anyone else notices this? It happens as I said quite often, and I can provoke it by flipping through pictures very fast (for instance by holding down the left or right arrow on the keyboard).
I noticed that this message often appears in the console when I initiate iPhoto:
06/10/09 14.17.11 iPhoto[1023] ILLogger ILMediaBrowserPathWatcher: ** Error in ILMediaBrowserPathWatcher startFSEventStream failed to start for paths: (
    "/Users/mikkeldrewsen/Library/Preferences"
I don't know if that's relevant, but there it is none the less.
I hope someone can help me!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IP copy function fails - ST01 trace stops at FM SYSTEM_RESET_RFC_SERVER

Production error when copying  one planning version (v01) to another version (v99) in the same planning cube.
This works in lower environments - not in production.  We think it is either master data or something on ABAP / BASIS side.  No glaring difference is noticed in master data b/t environments (ie 0PROFIT_CTR, 0COSTCENTER, etc...).
Upon execution of the "copy" function, we get the 500 internal server error screen with the following text:
The initial exception that caused the request to fail was:
    Termination message sent
ABEND RSBOLAP (000): Program error in class SAPMSSY1 method : UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
      MSGV1: SAPMSSY1
      MSGV3: UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
ABEND: Program error in class SAPMSSY1 method : UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
ABEND: System error in program CL_RSR_FIPT_SID2VAL_PREFETCH and form TRANSFORM-01- (see long text)
This stopped working in the past few days.  We're wondering if the data grew, and has exceeded some sort of timeout parameter?
A trace in lower environments has the function running through a variety of FM calls - in production, it ends with a call to this function module: SYSTEM_RESET_RFC_SERVER

    Hi,
planning function work with characteristic values, the planning buffer is using SIDs. The conversion failed for some reason. You can use transaction RSRV to check the characteristic values in the SID, P and Q tables. The exception TRANSFORM-01- is raised when for a SID the corresponding characteristic values was not found.

  • The update installation on my iPod touch failed and erased everything.

I plugged in my iPod touch (1st generation)into my computer and opened iTunes. A message popped up saying that there was a new update for my iPod, so i clicked on the download and install button. I downloaded the update and while it was installing, another message popped up saying the installation failed. so I was like ok I'll just click on the download again and reinstall it. But now my iPod wasn't showing on iTunes. I disconnected it and reconnected it and my iPod still didn't show. Then I noticed that the download wasn't there either. I turned on my iPod and all it showed was a picture with a connection cord pointing up to the iTunes logo. I think that the failed update installation must have completely erased my iPod touch's software. I have tried looking for the update download all over my computer but found nothing. what do I do now? Is there a way for me to download the software again or something? thank you

Thanks Jason, I will try the troubleshooting steps. Will they still work even if my iPod touch isn't even being recognized as an iPod by iTunes or my computer?
If the iPod is not recognized and cannot be restored from the other user account, try the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852
You can quickly isolate the issue by trying to restore from another computer.
If the issue is not present on another computer try the tips in the article above.
If the iPod touch has the same issue on another computer, it may need repair.

  • New ipod, same apps and music

I recently lost my ipod when it fell in water, I am purchasing a new one of the exact same type with more memory. All of my music and apps I purchased are on my account, how do i put them on my new ipod?

  • Ipod function jumping and connection errors

I have an iphone 4, when i was running the old software in it i never had an issue with ipod jumping, now with IOS4.2 in it its like theres a scratched CD playing and it jumps all the time, i havent changed anything and its only when docked, if i play via bluetooth its fine
Other problem i have is when i connect to an iphone ready stereo it comes up fine sometimes but others it comes up saying its not optimized for iphone version, sometimes it comes up and plays with no sound others its just not working and i have to reset
im loosing faith in it now, all my music is on it and i listen to it every day, im trmpted to go back to the 3gs and loose all the other problems with this phone too

I had the same problem after updating ITunes and the IPhone software to v.3.1.3. My IPod got frozen during the update and, after attempting to restore, I got the following message:
The IPod Touch "Ipod Touch" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1604)
I checked Apple's support page that the More info button links to, and for this particular error code it explains:
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, try these steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Connect iPhone to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
    2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
    3. When prompted click OK.
    4. Close and re-open iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
    5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    6. Try to restore again.
I tried the above steps (after re-connecting the ipod to my PC several times with no significant result) and it worked! All the original content was synced back to my ipod, so it's all good!
Good luck with the above steps, hope it works for u too.

Ok, so When I have music playing and safari open on my iPhone after like one or two songs the music just stops. It has happened multiple times. Then Sometimes Safari will just close in the middle of loading a page.

Hold down select and the middle button until your ipod resets. It will only turn it off and back on. But this will solve your problem. Do NOT hold all the play button too as this will clear your ipod back to factory settings

  • Two Questions -- Ipod Export Fail and Wmvs

    Hey there,
New to quicktime on windows, got two questions.
First, when I try to export for the IPOD default setting, I get the error -2147023174: an unknown error occured.
Second, is there any way to play WMVs in Quicktime on a PC? Flip4Mac is obviously not going to work, but is there an equivalent for windows?

My other question is, when I replaced my iPod, does my warranty get renewed? Because the serial number on my new iPod says it expires in 2009, but the orginal box still serves as my receipt. (the box says it expires on the 29th)
Any warranty on a replacement iPod last for either 90 days, or the remainder of the original warranty whichever is the longer period.

  • Audio Books Not Resuming / Ipod locks if exit Music after 2.2.1 Upgrade

    Hello,
I have a 1G 16GB Ipod Touch, and have been running 1.1.4 for the past year until about a week ago when I took the plunge and upgraded to 2.2.1. I thought all went well, but have been experiencing multiple problems as my use of the Ipod expands.
I subscribe to Audible and listen to long audio books on my drive to work. In 1.1.4 I was able to pause the books, go off and do other things, and come back to resume where I left off. This feature no longer works correctly for me after the 2.2.1 upgrade.
After pausing an audio book, I am able to resume playback where I left off if I stay within the Music application (even playing other songs or books). However, if I exit the Music application back to the Main Menu, the Ipod locks for about 30 seconds before I can start another app, lock, or go back into music. If music is playing when I go back to the Main Menu, it will continue during this time the Ipod is locked and then stop. If no music is playing, the Ipod still locks, so it doesn't matter if music is playing or not.
After the Ipod becomes responsive again, I can go back into Music, but I find that all my audio books have reverted back to the bookmarks that existed a week ago when I did the upgrade. For example, I was on Chapter 6 of a book when I did the upgrade, listened up to Chapter 10 and paused. I exited the Music, came back in, and it reverted to the exact second in Chapter 6 where the bookmark was placed before the upgrade. I have tried multiple experiments with this, and it's always the same result. I upgraded to 2.2.1 to use Apps, so it stinks that I can't leave Music...ever.
Is there anything that I can do to fix this issue or am I going to be forced to downgrade back to 1.1.4?
    Thank you very much!

Well, I managed to fix the problem thru sheer brute force so I figured I would at least pass along what I did in case someone else has this issue. Evidently, doing an in-place upgrade does not work so as a last resort I used "Restore", cleared the Ipod, reloaded everything back on and the playback positions are now working again in music and video. Something screwy must have happened during the upgrade and just needed to start over. Still trying to reload everything (they REALLY need a mass backup feature for photos/music/videos) but looks like it will work.

  • Synicing apps and music please help mee!

    hello all,
this all started a few months back i cant rember how many but i found out i could shop on my ipod for apps and music etc.. anyway i hardly ever used the pc for anything even charging cause i have a wall charger in my room so i kinda have gotten used to not shopping on the itunes store on the pc. well a few days ago i decided i better stop being lazy so i pluged in my ipod touch to shop on itunes and well i asked a question and it got anwsered so i transfered my apps and music stuff into the pc so i can shop well when i got to the apps part of my itunes menu on my ipod info it has apps and stuff underneath it faded? so theres this little tick box thing beside it so i click on it and this is what it came up with (i copied it all out everything you see is what it actually said)
"are you sure you want to sync apps? all existing apps and their data on the ipod "mins ipod" will be replaced with the apps from this itunes library"
i dont want to click on it before i ask people so my question is does anyone know what i should do?
    please help me!

Syncing to a new computer or iTunes will erase the content of your device and replace it with the content of that iTunes.
To make sure that your settings, data and apps are transferred to your computer, back up manually and restore from that backup afterwards. Here's how to do.
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes with the same account. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0
