IPod Games Previews don't work!

I just installed iTunes 8.0 (35). I go to the iTunes store, select iPod Games, and click on a game to view the info. When I click on "Preview" to try to view a preview of the game, the screen changes, there's an area created at the middle at the top where the game preview is *supposed to* play, I do hear the audio, but instead of the video, I see an area of the previous screen showing through. I've restarted iTunes to no avail. Anyone have a clue? TIA.

Yes I have, with the same installation session as for iTunes 8.0.
And Quicktime works fine on its own -- I've tested it.
The problem is not related to iPod Games. I have the same preview problem when, for example, I click to Preview a song that is featured on the default Quicktime Player movie (the one promoting various Apple items) ... click on a song, the screen opens in iTunes store, click on Preview button, large area "opens up" at top middle and I can hear the music BUT all I see is what was in that area before I clicked preview.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • My iPod Nano buttons don't work...

My iPod Nano buttons don't work even tho my Hold button in off when I switch my Hold button from ON to OFF my iPod shuts off then restarts by itself. My iPod is fully charged. I have updated my iPod to the latest update. I've tried to restart my iPod many times but since the buttons don't work it doesn't happen.

If you've reset and restored and the buttons still don't work, then it needs service. Either take it along to an Apple store, or send it in.

  • Thumbnail previews don't work. CS5 / G5

What happened to the thumbnail previews?!! They don't work anymore and it really slows the workflow down...a lot!
Now you have to open up every file to see what it is.
Please Adobe, tell me there's a fix!

    Bob,
What in the world are you smoking? Please read again.
The thumbnail previews are the little images that you see in 'finder' when you click on a file without opening it. They show you a miniature preview image (thumbnail) of the file.
Example: If you are in Indesign and you want to place an illustrator file into your layout, you would click on your frame and hit 'Apple D' and then locate the file you want from a relevant folder. I used to be able to use the thumbnail previews to help locate the file I needed. Now this function doesn't work and I have do trial by error. Which obviously takes much longer and slows the work flow down.
This happened after installing CS5. Not sure why or what's causing it exactly but it's a big deal.
Looking for a fix (not from smoking).

  • Ipod game preview and the app store

i started browsing itunes, in particular the ipod games. i noticed that there is a "preview" button for some that plays a little QT video of the game play. i'm wondering if there will (in the future since i didn't see an upload option for it currently in itunes connect) be support for this in the app store...

Yeah, a QTime vid would be nice. They can link to our own website if they're worried about the bandwidth.

  • [HELP] Ipod Nano Buttons Don't Work [HELP]

Okay, I had got my Ipod on December 25, 2006, but now I recently came by a problem.
I charge my Ipod, and then take it out the right way. When I try to listen to my songs, the buttons don't work, the only button that works is the HOLD SWITCH. This is getting on my nerves. Do anybody know how to fix this problem? I might have to get another one or send in for repairing. Thanks.

    First try a reset...
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
Obviously if your buttons are truly broken the above won't work, but worth checking anyway.
Next, try restoring the iPod and see if that clears it up.
If not, then you may have an actual hardware failure.

  • IPod Touch keys don't work

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with my iPod Touch (1 GEN)
All of a sudden my (1/Q) key and my key don't work. I can't touch them.
I've restored. I've updated the latest firmware and nothing seems to help.
Can anyone help me with this problem.

I had a similar problem with a different set of keys. The keyboard function had failed. It happened with mine 3 days after I got it and there was no issue taking it back and doing a simple exchange for a brand new one. Depending on your warranty situation, get it back to where you bought it or Apple.

  • What to do if the buttons on your iPod touch 5 don't work?

I have had my iPod 5 touch for slightly less than a year. It has been working great however just yesterday my iPod has not been responding when i touch it. For example i can use the home button but when i try to put my password pin in its like I'm not even touching it, it doesn't work. The weird  thing is only half of the numbers are responding; numbers near the bottom like 0 9 8 7 6 work but not the rest. This is a very big issue because i can't use my iPod. Please answer as soon as possible.
PS i have restarted the iPod a couple times with the home button and off button but it doesn't seem to work

    Hello there, Rawan12.
Sounds like you've done some great troubleshooting so far. The following Knowledge Base article provides some additional steps and recommendations to further resolve the issue you're describing:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1827
    Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If the steps above don't resolve your issue, please schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store for evaluation. If an Apple Retail store is not an option, contact Apple to find out your best service option or see the Service FAQ for your product.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • For issues of Ipods that suddenly don't work

I have a couple of thoughts based upon 10 years of dealing with applications, operating systems, and peripheral devices:
With a PC, the most critical components to having everything talk nice and get along with Windows are the registry and your drivers. If suddenly something stops working that worked the day before...
did you install anything that might have affected things? If so, then a clean uninstall/reinstall of the apple software might work. Usually I see people trying to update the ipod or restore it-- but if the ipod is working on it's own outside of the PC then there is nothing wrong with it and the problem is a driver/registry/communication or software issue on the PC.
have you ever checked your registry for bad bytes? I know this sounds simple, and I have nothing to do with this company, but most PC users have a registry that is like spaghetti. Not good. Bad registry entries can have far-reaching effects on your PC. registryfix.com has a good program (not free but not expensive).
Regarding USB2.0 connections, I see many people using hubs. Generally speaking, even with USB2.0, it is best to use a direct connection and avoid going through a hub (even if it is powered) for any data-intensive peripheral. That includes scanners and hard drives. Always plug these kinds of devices directly into your PC. Yes they say you can daisy-chain this and that, but sometimes marketing departments don't bother to tell consumers that this is not the best way to use USB/Firewire connections...
The final question I have is the type of dock you are using... I notice that if I go through my generic dock, it eats my battery charge within 5 minutes of synching. If I use a usb/dock cable instead, it lasts much longer. I don't have a firewire/dock cable-- I have to go through my generic dock and a plug-in firewire, which is making me wonder if my dock is crashing my PC. I am looking for a firewire/dock connector cable locally and will post it if that fixes my crashing problem.
Hope at least some of that was useful. Now if you find a way to help me use my firewire and 3g/docking ipod I'll be very grateful... even with my years of experience of destroying operating systems and mashing apps, I can't get it to work...

    Hello,
Thank you for your sharing, I find it is very useful. And I do not what is the problem of your iPod, but I hope the following post to this forum may helps
    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning ! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery replacement (with pictures)
    http://www.kokopellimusic.us/KM_instructions.htm
Have I tried this myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

  • IPod Touch Apps don't work after connecting to PC!

    Hi, can anyone help please?
I have an iMac at home and a PC at work, so use my iPod Touch between the two.
However, after I've connected my Touch to the work PC, pretty much every application doesn't work, and they will only work again once I've connected it back at home to my iMac!
Whatever application I open will start loading, then after about 3 seconds it just boots me back to the homepage...
It's driving me mad as there's no logical reason for it that I can see! The only things that still work are the music, video, photo and itunes tabs at the bottom!
However, once I've reconnected to the Mac at home they all work fine! And continue to work fine until the next time I connect to the work PC!
Any thoughts or fixes gratefully received!

Is the other machine "authorized" at the iTunes store? If not, it's probably overwriting the authorization of the home machine.

  • Previews don't work after Upgrade to 1.1

After trying for 4 days, I managed to upgrade to Lightroom 1.1
Incredible enough, everything seemed to have worked all of a sudden.
My pictures, my database set up, everything seems to be in order.
But I can not see the pictures.
    The Previews are gone.
LR acts as if everything is fine, but there are no previews. It shows the fields and lists and everything. I can even add the pictures to collections etc... but I dont see them. They're just grey.
I also tried to import new pictures and see if the thumbnails/previews are being generated. No result. Offically they are generated, I just dont see anything. its all grey.
I tried to delete the thumbnails and render new ones in 1:1... without any success.
It seems to me that something is wrong with the software, not with the DB...
Looking for help as I can't keep working. Thanks.

Try deleting the previews directory and then rebuilding the standard previews.
