Ipod gen 4 completely dead

One day 2 weeks ago, my ipod was "low battery" so I plugged it in to charge, I noticed about 20 minutes later the screen displayed a 'disabled' message saying "iPod disabled, Try again in 22 000 000 minutes". Now I can't get it to charge or do anything the screen is completely dead. Someone please help!!!!

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • IPod 4th Gen completely dead

iPod 4th Gen completely dead and will not appear in iTunes. iTunes works perfectly fine with other devices.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
However, ou may have a hardware problem like a dead battery and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store may be in order.

  • After 3.1.1 update my ipod is completely dead

    So...
As of right now I'm quite angry, as the update that seems to be, solely, to keep individuals from jail breaking Ipods, as I have NOT done, has completely killed my Ipod touch 2g. It was working fine with the 3.0 and now suddenly, immediately after updating, nothing at all in the entire world will get it to turn on. No DFU mode NO restoration, nothing at all. 5 seconds on power button, 10 seconds on power and home, 30 seconds on home. Nothing at all. No flicker, no life. I downloaded DFU helper to make sure I got the timing perfectly. It will not start and i completely and entirely blame this new OS for the death of my entertainment device. It had a full battery when it died, left it on the charger overnight and all it did was get warm near the plug area. I cant, for obvious reasons, get my serial number for my Ipod because its dead AND for some reason it isnt showing up in my registered products on my Itunes Account so there is no way for me to start the online support contact stuff.
All I need to know is that seeing as this is the fault of Apple hardware will they give me a new Ipod touch regardless of my warranty status, which right now i cant seem to check because i cant get the serial number, weird??????
    Oh and by the way
Half your links in the support area are dead. They lead to nothing, just an error page.

I figured it would be on the back so i was looking for it when this first happened but it was scratched to crap in the area where it is and i couldn't see it.
Managed to get a magnifying glass out and decipher the SN last night.
Still wondering if apple would replace an item their hardware screwed up if the item isn't under warranty still. Doesn't pertain to me but definitely interests me.

  • PLEASE HELP- MY IPOD IS COMPLETELY DEAD

My Ipod touch is not even a year old, yesterday it went completely dead, no power what so ever. Has anyone any idea what could be wrong with it, and if this can be fixed!
    Thanks in advance

Try to force your iPod into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while the iPod starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Then you can restore your iPod: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • Ipod classic completely dead?

My 80GB Ipod classic is completely frozen. It was fine, plugged into a speaker dock and then I got a new speaker dock and put it on and it immediately died. I can't do the "5 R's" because I can't get any response from it at all, the screen is completely black. It isn't showing up in Itunes or in Windows. Is the battery dead or something more serious? If it is a dead battery how do I go about replacing it?
    Thanks!

okay looks like i got mine sorted out.
I had my ipod classic charged and believed the battery to be almost full when i tried to turn it on. like yours, no response and completely dead. i plugged it in and left it for 10 mins...nothing! not even a charging sign on the screen. then i heard if the battery is completely dead you may need to charge if for an hour or so before it comes back to life - thats what i did and its back to life.
if yours is still not working prob a battery problem - you can send it to ipod to replace the battery or you can buy them online and change them yourself (look it up in google)

  • IPod touch completely dead after attempted update to 3.0

    Cross-posted to "with Windows" forum...
...Not only during update to 3.0, but also during update to 2.2.1 and during a restore attempt 6 weeks ago. All 3 "dead" iPods have been replaced by Apple - I'd like a solution...
I have videoed the update taking place and the iPod dying during it - sadly it is in MOV format (439MB) and I cannot convert to an uploadable version for Youtube... By DEAD, I mean, no power and will not display ANYTHING on the screen. Simply won't power up again.
This is what happens: Download update using iTunes... Extracting software... Backing up iPod... Preparing the iPod for the software update... (iPod shows USB plug and CD - then apple logo...) then the updating progress line appears on iTunes and on touch. Updating iPod software... Verifying updated iPod software... Updating the iPod firmware... White progress line on iPod disappears after a few seconds and screen goes black. Error message displays on iTunes - "The iPod xxxx could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (6)"
iPod is now dead and needs to be replaced,
    1) Has anyone experienced this?
    2) Has anyone SOLVED it?
Maybe related is a problem with some videos that have happened recently (and were the cause of me trying to restore the iPod last time it died) MP4 (or MPV files) play for about 20-30 minutes, then screen goes white, then black, then apple logo appears, then iPod returns to home screen after about 30 seconds. My usual solution to this has been to remove all videos, photos (which are corrupted by this time), audio, and then re-sync back.
I'd appreciate ANY help please. I intend buying an iPhone soon and would like to know that the problem won't occur on that, every time I try to restore.
    Cheers!
    Martin

To begin the discussion, let's throw in a few possibilities:
    1. Is your iPod in the process of being "jail-broken"? If so, I'd avoid the risk and stick with standard Apple firmware. Some hacks end up with dead iPods.
    2. Do you use iTunes for syncing? Only use Apple software for managing your file system.
    3. Are you Windows or Apple? For whatever it's worth, I've only seen this happen with Windows machines.
No solutions here - but maybe some hopeful suggestions.

  • My ipod is completely dead, please help.  ipod 20gb 4rth gen

Ive looked through this website and tried everything but i still have a dead ipod, anyone able to help ?

    Tried these?
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
A dock won't charge the iPod, do you have access to an a/c charger?

  • IPod Photo completely dead.

I've had this iPod for a couple of years. It now won't turn on - at all - no matter what i do, charge, attempt reset etc. This is how this developed:
Got into car. Had left iPod in glove compartment on a hot day (this could be what i did wrong). Anyway, selected a playlist and the iPod froze on play. I couldn't use the thing after this; it just froze.
Left it. Went back to it a couple of hours later. The iPod had now gone back to the playlist setting. I selected a new song. It froze again.
I left the iPod for another couple of hours. It started to work, but 1 song in it froze. 5 minutes later it randomly skipped to mid way through the 7th track. I tried moving it back to track 3 but it froze again when it reached there. 5 minutes later it kicked in during track 7 again, even though i hadn't touched the iPod.
I tried to play it before i went to bed. It froze. I left it to run down, thinking this may help restore it. This morning i switched it on, the apple logo came up then the low battery sign. But i try to charge it via docking station or computer and it now won't turn on. At all.
It is now completely life less. Any ideas?

Apple will not replace older products with newer ones when they are sent in
    That's not entirely true.
If the damaged iPod is covered under warranty, Apple will replace the iPod with a current model (in this case a 60GB 5th Gen) if they choose not to repair the damaged iPod, and they do not have a refurbished one to provide to the customer.
It all depends on the circumstances of the case.
    From the warranty:
If a defect arises and a valid claim is received by Apple within the Warranty Period, at its option, Apple will (1) repair the product at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or which has been manufactured from new or serviceable used parts and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or (3) refund the purchase price of the product.

  • Ipod is completely dead

After charging ipod on a docking station, it got very hot and now does not turn on at all, does not charge and is not recognised when plugged into any computer.
It won't respond to a restore action. I think it might be dead but does anyone have any bright ideas? thanks

I've seen this on a couple of 3rd Gen's my theory is that the part of the circuit that charges the battery is damaged. if you were to replace you battery, I bet your ipod would work... until the battery went dead. This is what I have experienced. there is no easy or economical way to repaid the Logic board. Trade it in for 10% off a new one or sell it for parts

  • Ipod is completely dead. Help.

    Hello.
I jailbroke my ipod about a year ago and it started to glitch and not allow me to download apps. It woud also crash a lot! I had the understanding that if you were to update the ipod then it would unjailbreak it. So from the ipod itself, i updated it and now it wont turn on or charge. it wont even come up on my itunes when i plug it in to my computer. I cant use it and i dont like that. Anybody know what i can do?

Thanks for the quick replies! I've tried the home + plug in to the pc but still no dice! Unfortunately, I don't have apple care and I think it might just be out of warranty :-(!
Then pop in to your nearest Apple Store and get them to have a look at it for you...

  • My ipod wasnt completely dead but it wont turn on

I have the ipod touch 4 and it had a little less than half the battery and now it wont turn on at all. This happened before and my friend just plugged it into his computer and it turned back on. I did that but it didnt work this time. Can anyone help me? i really dont want to get a new ipod cuz ill lose all of my pictures and apps i paid for

If there is any power left try resetting it by pressing and holding the power and home buttons simultaneously until you see the apple logo. It may take 15 seconds or so.

  • IPod-7th Generation-DEAD!!!

Played my IPod ALL day at work while it was plugged up to an electrical outlet using the USB cord.  Never had a problem until today.  As I was leaving my job, I got outside and the IPOD went completely DEAD!!  It wouldn't turn on, black screen...FLAT LINED!!!  After reading the posts and seeing that I wasn't the only one with this problem, I tried holding the power button, volume control button, & the menu button like everyone else has done and BAM!!  The dumb thing rebooted.  Thought I may have to get a second job to buy a new and bigger IPod!!!  Thanks to everyone who posted.  It helped...
