IPOD gets super hot while charging, won't turn off

My daughter's IPOD was getting super hot while charging. VERY hot. It wouldn't let us disconnect it. We finally HAD to, it was so hot. It now won't shut off - has the battery with the ! sign on the display.
Any ideas on how to fix this, or is this toast? thanks.

I hope they will help - we've had it almost 90 days already - I don't know how long they are willing to help. I literally have a blister on my finger - it got that hot.

My daugther's ipod touch got hot and will no longer turn on.  Is there a solution to this problem or is the ipod fried?

I'm not sure if it's fried or not, but try rebooting the device by pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously for about 15 seconds or so. Hopefully you will see the Apple logo.

  • Why is my iPod screen grey and unresponsive? Won't turn off too.

Why is my IPod screen grey and won't turn off using restart button?

as to why its gray, its either a glitch or something else. you need to turn it off and plug it into itunes and restore it. then sync it.

  • IPod Video - white screen, no video, won't turn off either

    Greetings.
I have an iPod video that recently has been giving me quite a bit of trouble. The lcd doesn't display the menu or anything 95% of the time. The backlight turns on so it looks like it's powered, but I can't see the menu or anything else. When I turn it off, dark lines, sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical go across the screen. The lines also sometimes appear as colored lines when the screen is lit.
Also it doesn't want to turn off via holding the center and menu buttons. It will go dark, then I'll feel some minor mechanical vibrations followed by an audible click (not the wheel). If I let the buttons go after about 10 seconds the screen turns on again to white screen without any video.
If I keep holding down the center and menu buttons, then it will continue to do cycles of the mechanical movements followed by the audible click, then do the movements and click again and again. Once I let go, the white screen reappears.
I've tried accessing the diagnostic mode, but that doesn't work since it just starts up in the white screen mode with no video.
I'm way past my warrenty. I've already opened my iPod several times to ensure all of the wires are firmly attached. I think its the LCD, but since it has trouble turning completely off, I wasn't sure if that means it's actually the logic board.
Any suggestions? Would it be a smart to try replacing the LCD screen? Or is it R.I.P. for my iPod?
    Thanks!

Hopefully the battery has leak after long disused.
Recharge the iPod battery for at least 4 hours, normally it would take 30 minutes of recharge before the screen comes to live.
Disconnect the iPod, safely, after charging.
If your battery is good and can recharge fully.
Hard Reset the iPod - Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
    Select your preferred language.
Connect your iPod back to the Mac, and see if it is recognised by iTunes or Finder
Good Luck! and you will need it when syncing your iPod.

  • Frozen ipod after the update and it won't turn off

After the 2.0.1 update itunes wouldn't recognize my ipod touch. I ran the diagnostics and no iphone or ipod touch was found. My computer knows it's there but itunes doesn't detect it. The ipod is frozen on the screen with cracked apple and the load circle right below. It's been like this for about 6 hours. I at least just want to turn off the ipod. I've tried all kinds of methods to remedy this but nothing works. I'm afraid the ipod might get damaged being like that for so long. I would appreciate it if someone can help. This is so frustating.

This happened to me last night. My screen was frozen with the "cracked" Apple logo. I thought it was toast. I decide to give it one more try. This time I held the top On/Off button until it rebooted. I had it for several seconds (I don't know how many seconds, but it seems like almost 30). I may have held the "Home" button at the same time.
When the IT rebooted, everything was fine.

  • When my iPod gets to around 18 percent, it just turns off. Help?

When it gets to 18 percent it shuts down telling me to charge it

Try cycling the battery, as pointed out in link below. If that does not help, you may have a battery issue. Contact Apple if you are in warranty.

  • My iPod is stuck on safari and won't turn off or return to home screen

I updated my iPod touch to iOS 6 and since then I've encounntered multiple problems. My iPod is stuck on safari and I can zoom in and zoom out but that's all I am able to do, I can't turn it off nor can I go back to the home screen. I tried letting it go on low battery but it's still on. The only button that works is the volume buttons. Help please?

If the reset is not successful, try the other items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My I touch gets very hot when charging, and it won't turn on.  I've tried all the resets/fixes and it does not respond.  Any Ideas?

I have tried charging my itouch on the computer, in a docking station, and it gets very hot.  It won't turn on, even after trying all the resets I've read on this site.  Any ideas what the problem is?  Is it fixable?

Hey Halefarm, What happens if you connect directly with the charging source with your cable, no docking station? Since resetting did not help, try connecting directly with the cable to your power source and your iPod. Next  try a different cable, there could be a short in the one you are currently using. If still will not charge correctly, I'm leaning in the direction of a failing battery. Set up an appointment to have your iPod evaluated by Apple. Have your iPod evaluated for possible battery issues. Take the cable and dock and have them tested as well. If it is a failing battery, you choices are; replace the battery, either through Apple or third party shop. Replace it yourself, if you can. Or,  you look into getting a new iPod. I don't have the cost of a new battery for an iPod 3, but I'm sure it's under $100. Check with Apple for exact pricing. Good luck, Cheers.

  • My charger gets super hot is that normal

My power cord gets super hot. I can not hold it while my mac is charging. I am worried it may cause a fire. Is this normal or a defective cord?

break in the feed lines, dont use it again, get a replacement.
be careful how you wind up your cable when done, almost ALL such occurances are due to haphazard winding up of the charging cable.

  • My iPhone 5 gets very hot while in use or just charging?

Is it normal for the phone to get so hot while being used just for simple things like listening to music or charging

    Hi Lizard914,
It is entirely possible that what you're experiencing is within normal limits. Here is an article with additional information:
iOS devices: Keeping device within acceptable operating temperatures
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2101
When using the device or charging the battery, it is normal for it to get warm. The exterior of the device functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the device to the cooler air outside.

  • Is it normal for my charger adapter to get hot while charging.

IIs it normal for my charger to get hot while charging.  Very hot

Hot/ Very Hot are very relative.
Its normal for it to get hot while charging, but if its really unconfortably hot to touch even briefly then there might be an issue.

  • IPad plug gets hot while charging

I have the 5 watt charger I have noticed it gets hot while charging is this normal I just upgraded to ios7 please let me know if this is normal?

Definitely not typical, bot probably normal. iOs7 uses more power than former versions, thanks to the continual use of Bluetooth, Backtround App Refresh, and Airdrop. Disable these functions, and post with your results.

My ipod gets warm/hot on the back when in use or charging.  It will also not hold a charge and is not operating correctly.

Apple will do it for $79.

  • My 1st gen ipod nano caught fire while charging overnight

The title says it all, really. I was charging it overnight with the original charger, and in the morning it was like this:
Luckily, there was very little collateral damage, but it got me really scared.
I then found out about a replacement program for certain ipod nanos that were getting hot while charging (apparently mine is one of them, according to the serial), but the mentioned program wasn't available in my country (Croatia). Is there anything i can do about it?

    Have you tried:
    - Using another cable?
    - Restore in the iPod. First from backup and then to factory defaults/new iPod?
    - Looking carefully at the dock connector on the iPod.  Look for bend or corroded contacts or other abnormalities?
It sounds like you have a problem with the dock connector or cable or maybe a bad battery.

    hi
i am getting electric shock while charging my itouch

Also, do yo get it when charging with a wall charger?
    A computer USB port?
Could be a problem with the cable (as mentioned by kylewont) or the charging source or the iPod.
An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store maybe in order.
