Ipod gift from a friend, can I still add music.

I just received an Ipod 30G from a good friend. He added over 6,000 songs over the last couple of years. I want to go to Itunes and add more,however,I am not sure how I will register myself as the new owner,since he already did that 2 years ago. I am also nervous that the songs that are on the pod will disapear when I log on?
Any ideas?

You might have to do this on your friends old computer. Then on your computer you can manually add more songs to the iPod but iTunes won't delete what is on there.

Buy the songs that your friend put on the iPod that you liked. They had no right to give you the copyrighted music when they sold you the device.

Ok so. I want to get iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 but my computer recently broke on me right before the release. So im going to barrow a apple laptop from a friend but I'm wondering if I plug my phone into it, and if my data will go on the laptop from my phone and stay there so when my phone restores I can redownload my info back on my phone. Well, I strongly recommend that before you make a backup before sync with a new iTunes, because this will erase everything you have.
Look at www.copytrans.net, they have diferent products, depending on the case.

So all of the music that is currently on my ipod was not backed up from my old itunes library and I definitely don't want to lose the entire collection I have on my ipod.

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

Music Rescue also works as far as restoring your playlists etc. I've used it twice, you can use the Quick Recover mode, but have to click continue trial (something like that) allot, cp. to purchase option. Otherwise diesel is right as far as restoring via your purchase history.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

I had my ipod touch and iphone synced to itunes on my PC and basically managed my photos and music, etc. from there. However recently my computer died and I am considering replacing it with an ipad eventually. Can I still add stuff onto my two devices? And if so, am I limited to apple store purchases only? Can I retain all the photos and non-apple store downloaded music that is presently on these two devices? Any guidance in this area will be very welcome!

iTunes cannot transfer this media back to a computer. Make sure to back up your iTunes Library, or you can use iTunes Match2.
