IPod got erased, and now won't connect to computer

I've had my Third Generation iPod for well over a year, and it's been fine up until this past month. It's been doing odd things, like freezing up and randomnly muting songs all month. When this has happened, I've just reset it, and it's gone back to normal. This morning, I started to play one of my playlists, and the iPod just flipped through the titles of each song, and then closed as if the playlist had finished. I tried resetting it, and all of my files got erased. When I tried to hook it up to my computer, the computer froze. The iPod still turns on, and seems to be working, but there are no files. iTunes and my computer won't recognise it, so what should I do? I've tried switching USB ports and restarted the iPod several times, even in disk mode. Nothing works. Out of curiosity, I went to the About menu on the iPod, and it says I only have 6 out of 20GB left. This was the amount that I had left when there were songs on it, but now there aren't. How can this be?

no my ipod's not recognised by my computer or any other program on my computer. so the only thing i have'nt tried is restore-in my ipod as it doesnt appear in itunes at all and i dont no how else i could do it. i have tried to make it work on both my old computer and my brand new so therefore its not a disk drive problem and i cant fix that even if it was because it doesnt appear in the disk managment section either..

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

  • IPod 4G screen is white, Won't connect to computer, wasn't restoring or in dfu. How to fix?

iPod 4G screen is white, won't connect to computer(Even though it's plugged in) no restoring was in process at the minute, and won't react to anything(Including turning on/off, no DFU, no Restoring, Home and power button aren't doing anything) How do I fix it?
Today, I was "screwing around" with an iron. When I pryed it open, (I'm guessing it must've hit my iPod 4G on the ironing board, I know, stupid decision) Next thing I knew, my iPod screen was white, or turning white, from an app I was in. I started freaking out because it wouldn't turn off or on. The sliding thing didn't even appear. I tried doing the "hold home and power button for ___ seconds" which didn't do anything, I tried plugging it into the computer, but the computer couldn't even tell it was plugged in. No restore or anything. It's currently white while I'm typing this... It's been about maybe a hour since it's been white. Any help or suggestions please? I'm not looking forward to taking it apart because recently I got the iPod fixed from when I had accidently shut it into the car door when it was in the pocket of my cardigan, which got caught in the door.
The back has a big diagnol dent across it, and I'm at a young age and not very experienced with this field, so I'm not opening anything. Again, this would reeeaaalllly help if anyone could help me with this issue! Thanks!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod Touch 3g Got hot and now won't turn on

I have an iPod touch 3g, 8gb's to be specific. I forgot the password to get into it, so I plugged it into my computer in order to reset the whole thing. I plugged it in and it connected, but after three seconds or so it disconnected. I tried plugging it in again, but the computer didn't notice anything plugged in.
I looked on the internet for some advice and I learned that I could hold the power button and the power button at the same time for somewhere between 5 and 10 seconds to restart it. I did that. The iPod turned off, but it got really hot and now won't power on plugged in or not.
What caused this? It's written all over this website that doing that would just reset the iPod, not kill it! Did it toast the motherboard?

The cable should not cause a problem unless it was really damaged and had power going to the wrong contacts.

  • My iPod got shampood and now it won't connect to my Mac. Ideas?

The big problem is that ever since the shampoo, the iPod won't recognize the connector cable. It keeps asking for USB cable even though that's what it has. the iPod still plays perfectly and will charge when connected to the computer, it just won't connect the music... HELP!!

Do a search for iPod repair companies. Some of them will give you a quote on what it will cost to repair your ipod. This would probably be cheaper than Apple repairing it.

  • Macbook Pro died and now won't connect to the internet

I just got home from college and my Macbook Pro died while I was using it because I couldn't find the charger in time to plug it in (stupid mistake that I never ever let happen usually). After I found it, plugged it in, and started it up again, the date and time were messed up on the computer. I reset them to normal and tried to connect to the internet using my old settings, but it hasn't connected.
I've tried a lot to try and fix it so far and it still won't connect. Other computers and devices (HP and Dell laptops, iPod touches, PS3) that my family have and use all work and connect to the internet fine.
I've tried to run the Network Diagnostics and after plugging in all of my settings and information, it says that it can't fix it. Next to it on the left, the Airport, Airport Settings, and ISP are all green...but the Network Settings is yellow and the Internet and Server are red.
I've deleted my internet settings and tried recreating them and that hasn't worked either. I have also tried the Assist Me portion to make a new connection - no luck there.
I've also tried resetting the Macbook Pro and the router (an Actiontec router for Verizon FIOS) multiple times and that hasn't worked either.
I unfortunately can't use Time Machine either because I don't have an external hard-drive and haven't set it up.
I just don't really know what to do at this point. Hopefully someone can help me out!

Same problem--hoping to get Apple's attention by throwing my hat in the ring with everybody else.
Things tried (now approaching 2 weeks of failure):
    Deleting "Airport" Connection, Adding/Restarting/Re-adding/etc.
    Archive Install
Erase & Install (full reinstall done by Genius)
    Card Replacement
    Bluetooth Replacement
    Zapping the PRAM
    Trying different connections/routers/locations/connection types/etc.
Visited Genius bar 4 times now.
Have been without the computer longer than I've been with it.
Trying to change over from a horrifically bad Dell to a refurb Mac worked once before...though I've come to believe: It's not the refurb, it's not the hardware, it's not the settings, it's not the router, it's not the install, it's not the associated software, it's not the connection, it's not the Super Moon that comes up tomorrow...It's a hardware issue as this has been happening since I opened the computer out of the box, and we have an identical computer running identical programs on an identical network with the identical updates and NO problems whatsoever--I'm assuming the innards may have been cheap'ed out somewhere to save a buck or a connector is faulty after a particular build date?
Full symptom list (in no particular order):
    Connection Timeout
    Connection Drop
    Not recognizing Airport
Card Recognition but endless connection time
    IP non-recognition
    Random re-connect
Indication of connection without transmitting/receiving data

    - Yes. Restoring the iPod erases the iPod.
    - Try a reset to:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then restoring
    - Next try DFU mode

  • IPod always appears as charging, won't connect to computer

My iPod charges fine from the wall charger but when i disconnect it it still says it's charging and since it does it looses battery from the charging icon being displayed all the time.
Also, it won't connect to my computer or any other computer at all, it just has absolutely no reaction to it plugging it into one(Note that i have tried other cords and computers and it still dosen't connect at all)
    Any ideas?

  • My iPod is stuck in recovery mode after failing to update to iOS 8.whatever and now won't connect to iTunes to restore?

So yeah, got an iPod touch for Christmas and it's pretty much bricked it and I haven't even had it for a full month yet. Not amused. I've tried everything from reinstalling everything Apple related on my laptop to external programs that promise to kick that thing out of recovery mode. If there's any other way to fix it I'd love to know considering it won't show up in iTunes at all so there's no way for me to restore it. This is my first Apple product and I haven't found a solution to a problem that I've found dates back as far as 2012 with no semblance of a way to fix it. Though I've seen ways to fix each problem separately it appears you need one thing to be working to fix the other which is an issue.
Okay I'm just ranting to but help would be appreciated

  • MY IPOD GOT WET AND NOW IT WON'T TURN ON! D8

Help! My iPod was in my bag and my water bottle leaked all over everything and I had not discovered my iPod was wet until I got home. D8

I've heard a lot of different theories on how to revive water-damaged iPods. You should search the forums--you will most likely get hundreds of similar posts. Methods I can think of off of the top of my head are:
    1. Put in a warm bowl of rice in a warm spot
    2. Put on a sunny windowsill for several hours
    3. (probably don't try unless you're totally desperate) put in a warm oven on a towel with the door open for a very short time
These are only a few options... if you use the search option you will find many, many more.

i droped my ipod touch in some water and used the rice method to save it but now now it will turn on but it won't respond when i try to touch it. any ideas

Try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod. If yu still have the problem then it appears that the water damaged your iPod and service is required.

I went to listen to my iPod, which had almost full battery, turned it on, then pressed menu to go back and choose another song, but it froze for about 10seconds then went to a black screen.
