IPod H.264/.mov format not possible!

Using QT7 I can export a .mov file with H.264 encoding but it won't play on an iPod - because I can't select "baseline" profile with the export options for .mov. So why does Apple advertise in the new iPod specs that it can play .mov files encoded with H.264, when QT7 won't let you create such files????
Also, QT7 won't let you rename text tracks to HREFTrack, which is required to use HREF functionality.
I feel totally ripped off after buying QT7.

Hello Darren,
Please note that the following has to be done BEFORE you add any interactive stuff/special Quicktime features like clickable links, HREF tracks etc.
You need to go File -> Export -> Movie to MPEG-4, then click Options. Set the top drop-down box to MP4 (not MP4 ISMA). The one below it should be set to Video so you're seeing the video options. Go to the next box down and change the video format to H.264 and the size needs to be 320 x 240. THIS NEXT STEP IS CRUCIAL. Click "Video options" and set it to restrict profile to "Baseline". I choose Best Quality (multi-pass) here too. Now click OK. You set the rest of the video settings (data rate, frame rate, key frames etc.) to whatever you need to achieve the quality/file size you want.
Now change that second-top box to Audio and up come the audio settings. You need to choose the AAC format and muddle with the other settings according to the results you want.
So now OK your way back out of there and save the file. It will start exporting and you can expect this to take quite a while.
Once the file has exported, open the resulting file in QuickTime. Now you add any text tracks, links, interactive features etc. Then you go File -> Save As, and choose the option to "save as a self-contained movie".
This should produce a QuickTime file that contains H.264 video and conforms to the iPod requirements (which Apple has posted somewhere). Any clickable hyperlinks, interactive features etc. will be there too, although of course some won't work on an iPod because it can't browse the web. But your video will be playable both on an iPod and other platforms that can play QuickTime/H.264.

  • Compressed H.264.mov format not recognized in DVD pro?!

    Hi,
I just compressed my 12 minute HD film using the "create a DVD" 90 min HD setting in compressor. That resulted in two files, one is a Dolby Digital Professional 2.0.ac3 audio file and is recognized in DVD pro, while the other is the video file H.264 6.75Mbps.mov.
Here are the video file specs:
    Quicktime movie
    615.6 MB on disk
    Dimensions:
    Codecs: H.264, Linear PCM, Timecode
    Dimensions: 1920 × 1080
    Audio channels 2
I tried using the regular 90min setting but I was seeing a loss in quality. I'd like to burn a good quality dvd using the compressed files, but I can't import the video file into DVD. I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions. Thank you so much!

The conversion in scale from 1080 to 480 is probably the most frequent cause of quality dissatisfaction. Because you are inputting a 1080 file, Compressor will automatically turn on Frame Controls (which is accessed via the Inspector). Open Frame Contols. IMO, the Resize Filter should routinely be set to Best for jobs like this.
Also in the Inspector, go to Encoding>Quality and check the bit rate is set to 7.7 Mbps. If it is (and it should have defaulted to that rate, leave it unchanged.
Open Preview and mark in and out points for a short representative section of your movie. Then submit.
In DVDSP open up Preferences and verify that your Project Setting is SD DVD. Verify in General that display mode is 16:9 Letterbox.
Bring the two files into DVDSP. Use the Graphical view to delete the menu icon. Control click on the Track icon and select First Play. Build and then either waste a blank DVD-R or use and reuse a DVD-RW for the quality test. Then Format. When the DVD has been burned, evaluate by playing from your player to your TV.
Hopefully you'll like the result and can then proceed to complete the full project.

  • The document "BOULET PEANUT - OFF LINE 3-QuickTime H.264.mov" could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-101)

I turned on my mac this morning after using Qt all day yesterday with no problems
    I get this message
The document “BOULET PEANUT - OFF LINE 3-QuickTime H.264.mov” could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-101)
Also QT will not play the audio of the files
    I'm on a mac pro, 10.7.4
    Everything updated
Any know whats up and can help solve this, it seems to be a software related problem to QT 7 or X

Exactly the same by my iMac.
"The document ... could not be opened. An error occurred (-101)"
I can play the same video with VLC player but not with QuickTime.
QuickTime and iTune can not play anything at all.
VLC Player however can play all medias without any problem.
    All my apps are uptodate.
    What could be the problem?

  • When I tap a photo in my iPhone photo gallery, the photo appears but there is always a "this movie format not supported" alert and then the alert goes away and the photo appears. These are photos I've taken with the iPhone and aren't even movies.

It's very odd. I take photos with my iPhone and then later go to view the photos in the Photo Gallery on my iPhone. The photos to appear, but I keep getting "this movie format not supported" alerts, even though I am looking at photos taken by my iPhone. The alert appears briefly just after the photo appears and then the alert goes away and I can see the photo. They are just still photos and not movies. Why wouldn't the iPhone recognize the format of photos it is taking?

That thread helped for a time.  But now it seems as though my computer is back to slow again.  But, some of the jargon is over my head as well.  Not sure I knew quoite everything they were talking about.  But thanks a lot for that, it helped I probably just need to reread it and follow the instructions again.  Thanks so much.

  • Error in BP transfer No contract account for premise- move out not possible

    Hi experts,
I am trying to transfer a BP from its current premise to another premise in the Web IC screen. While doing so i am facing the error saying that " No contract account for premise->move out not possible". I checked the contract account for the premise through normal premise search and it is existing.
I am facing this problem only when i am trying to transfer the BP which has multiple premise, for BPs having single premise it is working fine.
Request you to help me in this regard.
    Thanks and regards,
    Madhukar.

  • Youtube : movie format not Spported

Something very weird is happening on while watching Youtube on wi-fi. It goes like this
    1. Search some topic - Works fine
    2. Select a video for playing - works like a charm, even HD videos start play back almost immediately
    3. Select another video - ERROR MESSAGE "MOVIE FORMAT NOT SUPPORTED"
    4. SWITCH FROM WI-FI TO 3G - SAME VIDEO STARTS PLAYBACK WITHOUT A GLITCH
This happens for quite a few of the videos but not all.
    Has someone experienced this ?
Please give some solution to this.
    Some details
    1. Apple IPhone 4 GSM
    2. IOS 4.3.5
    3. Internet connection speed - 10 Mbps, speed test results also shows the same.

I have gotten so sick and tired of not being able to see a lot of the flash videos in YouTube (desktop version) on my iPad 2 that I created a way around it on my website. Now all I have to do is paste the URL of any YouTube video that doesn't work into my search bar and it plays straight away with no lag or loss of quality.

  • IMovie 11 import camera/archive not displaying movies, import not possible

    Guys,
hope anyone can help me with this one:
I had some issues with my iMac lately crashing with kernel panics. It crashed (kernel panic) while i was importing some HD material into iMovie 11. ever since, I cannot see any movie thumbnails in the import view (the actual movies are still on the camera/SD card. Also importing from iSight is not possible. The green light next or the camera is on, while no window or an empty import window is visible.
I did delete the whole iLife 11 suit, incl. all references to iMovies (preferences,...) and then a complete reinstall and updated all again.
    Unfortunately no luck so far.
Any tips or thoughts what I could do next as I really don't want wipe and reinstall all on my mac again?
    Cheers from DownUnder

    Hi,
My problem is very similar. I am able to choose the Archive folder and import the footage that way.  However, I am only able to do that once.  If I try again, it states the file is not a camera archive format file.
The only way I can get it to work again is to completely close out iMovie and restart.  Then I can import an archived file.  But then again, only once before I have to restart iMovie to get it to work again.
    Anyone have any workarounds?
    Thanks

  • HT3775 .MOV format not recognized?

I recovered a video from my sd card, it is a .MOV video, but quicktime will not recognize the format? any suggestions?
    The error message is
"The document 'File123.MOV' could not be opened. The movie's file format isn't recognized"

I attempted to play the videos but they are coming up as 00:00 in length
A better description of what I had done. I had purchased a recovery program for my SD card. The program worked and recovered everything, photos are find, mp3s are playing, but the videos are the only thing that do not work.

  • Youtube - movie format not supported - Help

Hi - hope someone can help me.
I was a regular user of the Youtube App on Iphone4. Now when connected to 3G, ALL videos i search for are saying that the movie format is not supported. Even videos that I have seen countless times before.
However, when connected to Wifi they work fine.
I have reset the phone through itunes, and that didn't work
Does anyone know what the issue is and can it be resolved. Its very very annoying.
    Thanks

I am glad I am not alone! I have the same issue happening.
If you immediately press play again on the video typically it will start playing. It's really frustrating though.
Here is another thread about it. I need it fixed soon! I am rolling out a training website where users will have to view the videos from their iPads!

  • IPad/iPhone Copy Format not possible??

Hi, I have noticed I cannot go in Advance/make an iPod/iPhone copy format for film I purchased... why?
    Is it a copyright issue??
    Tnxs cheers

You are perfectly right. However the problem is that even if I have 2 versions (HD SD) I have only one selectable in iPad or iPhone synching and it is only the HD one. I have verified I have  2.6GB and a 1.2GB on the HD and THR option to select the one I want from iTunes to view. However only the HD one is automatically synched... Do you know how Incan sync only the SD one?

  • WXP installation - HDD format not possible

    hi,
Since a while my laptop really worked slow on the net. Before that he worked great so i thought i delete everything and install the new windows xp (nl).
So i start and get the choose between
    format NTFS (fast)
    format NTFS
    Do not format
i choose the middle but he always stops on 14%?!?
I can format fast but then my problem isn't solved.
What can i do, what do you guys think is the problem?
    Thanx people!

    Hi Steven
It will be interesting to know which notebook model you have and which OS you want to install.
In my opinion you should use the recovery CD for installation. On this way the whole HDD will be formatted properly and in 20 min the notebook will be ready for use. You can use recovery CD for creation of two partitions if you want.
