IPod Had to be restored ........

iTunes said my iPod had to be reset to factory settings. I reset it using iTunes 9.2. It will sync but will not keep the playlists I add. What can i do to resolve this issue? Apple was no help. (at least not without getting in my wallet)

Launch iTunes on your computer.
Try...
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
With iTunes 10.3 and iOS 4.3.3 or later, you can download your previous purchases directly to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or computer.
" Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music purchases again at no additional cost. Your purchases are available in the iTunes Store on your Mac or in the iTunes app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store."
When you connected the iPod to you computer, did you see a dialog advising you the iPod must be restored? If so, that's why all your iTunes media is missing. Hopefully you can re download it.

I have a ipod touch 5 and when i was loading to my computer i chose to restore my data from my last ipod which did not have a camera. Then after all my music was uploaded i noticed that all the pictures i had taken on my new ipod had been deleted. I think it may be because i chose to restore my last ipod which no photos on it. I was wondering if there is any way to restore my lost photos?

If you backed up the iPod before restoring it then restore from that backup. See the restore topic of:

  • ITunes 11 freezing while transfering music, and can't eject it, so I need to disconnect the cable, then iTunes works just fine and my iPod Shuffle is in restoring mode. I've been having this issue for weeks, and never had it before with iTunes 10.

iTunes 11 freezes and can't eject my iPod, so I need to disconnect the cable, then iTunes works just fine and my iPod Shuffle is in restoring mode. I've been having this issue for weeks, and never had it before with iTunes 10. Please tell me at least a way to eject it without losing all my data and being forced to format/restore the iPod.    I've got 2GB iPod Shuffle 2nd generation(:D)

As a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices including hub (except for standard keyboard and mouse if normally used).  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.  Does this problem recur when the shuffle is the only USB device?
If it does (as another test), select the shuffle in iTunes, so that its Settings screen is showing.  Check the box for Enable disk use, and Apply.  Does that make any difference regarding this problem?

  • My ipod needs to be restored but it only stays on the "connect to itunes" for approximately 20 seconds and then turns black as if it is turned off.

So a couple of months ago, I had to restore my new IPOD 5 TOUCH because i had forgotten the password and disabled it, so as you can imagine I am quite familiar with restoring it.
(The last time I had synced it was the only time that I had to restore it when I first got it when I had disabled it)
This morning I wanted to sync my ipod. So I plugged my ipod into my WINDOWS computer and waited for itunes to open, and it did just like it is supposed to. It then said itunes needed the latest update so i continued with updating it. Itunes updated, but then said that my ipod needed the latest software. I said "ok update" and thats when itunes made my ipod into DFU mode without me even touching it.
SOOOO as you can imagine I was quite upset. I then have realized that because Itunes had moved it into DFU mode on its own, I could not manually get my ipod out of DFU mode so the only thing i was left to do was go ahead and restore it.  (correct me if Im wrong)
My huge issue right now is that my ipod NEEDS to be restored, but it only stays on the "connect to itunes" screen for approximatley 20 seconds and then turns black as if it has been turned off. When I plug it into my computer and turn it on to the "connect to itunes" mode, it does open it in itunes and starts "extracting sofftware" but then when it turns black after 20 seconds, it closes out because my computer thinks it has turned off.
I have tried charging it, and nothing has progressed. Im not sure if anything can be done for it right now, or if I could bring it to an apple store to fix it... it's brand new about 3 months old.
HELP and some advice would be greatly appreciated  !
    Thanks!

What type of security software suite are you running on your Vista computer? If it is one of the commercial ones, Norton, Mcafee, or the like, you are most likely suffering from the over zealous nature of these programs.
Are you sure you have top level admin access on your Vista computer. The fact that you can't use regedit to remove keys bothers me somewhat. But this is something for you to worry about. Here's what I would suggest you do:
    1. Remove all Apple software from your computer - iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Mobile Device Services
    2. Reboot
    3. Disable your firewall and virus checker.
    4. Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
    5. Re-download the 3.0 update
    6. Plug your iPod in and install the 3.0 update
If everything is working, then you can re-enable your virus checker and firewall software.
The most likely reason you have had all of these problems is the fact that Apple software needs to "phone home" during the firmware install. If it can't do it because of your firewall, then you are going to get various error messages and no success. The anti-virus software often prevents complete downloading of a file - again leading to errors.

  • ITunes wants me to set up iPod Touch again or restore it or eject it???

I bought this iPod Touch only two months ago. And since this is my second iPod (the first was a 5 gen that I had had for a couple years), I only did the initial iTunes 8 update I had to do when I bought it. Since it had been working fine, I didn't do any subsequent update(s). My motto is if it ain't broke...Anyhow, I don't normally do updates unless there is a really big gain I want. However, as of yesterday whenever I tried to sync it, iTunes wanted me to set up my iPod touch as a new iPod or restore it. Although it recognized the iPod's name, it wouldn't list any of the other information on it (playlists, etc.). The only other option I had was to eject it. I didn't understand why with no changes to my iPod or iTunes I would have to set it up again or restore it all of a sudden. When I called apple support, I was told that, "there was a problem that has been fixed and now in order for it to stay fixed, you have to restore it one more time." The lady that told me this got this from a product specialist. So I asked her what was the problem? Was it with iTunes or my iPod? How did it get fixed? She couldn't answer these questions but said that something kept updating and since it has been fixed but sees certain issues on the iPod, it wants to restore it so I had no choice but to restore it. Okay. I never updated iTunes 8 since the first time I downloaded it in September. So, why is it updating itself anyway??? Or is it something else that is updating itself? What's updating when I haven't done anything at all? I don't get it. I asked her if I could speak to the specialist myself because I'd like to be able prevent this from happening again (and to just have a basic understanding of what happened). She said I could and put me on hold and nobody ever picked up. I called back and a very nice guy answered that said that these things just happen sometimes (like once a year). I'm not really angry with them. They didn't make the things. I just want to know why it happened. Does anyone out there have an explanation? Have you had this experience?
Sorry. I'm just realizing this is in the wrong area. I don't post that often....I'll try to get an answer elsewhere.

    Welcome to the discussions,
are you using the same iTunes account? If no, did you authorize iTunes with his account info again before you connected his phone?
To keep your accounts separate on one PC, create a new windows user, log in, disable autosync in iTunes, set up the second account and back up manually by right clicking on the device in the device list and choosing "backup". This will save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer. Music, unless bought in iTunes and transferred with your purchases, is not part of the backup. But you can share music between different accounts on one computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

  • IPod touch 2G not restoring after paid 3.1 update

Hi I'm new here, this is my problem.
    I have an iPod touch 8GB 2G, purchased in August last year, anyway, I decided to treat myself last Saturday and update it, thing is, when it updated it froze then put itself in restore mode, thinking this was just part of the process of updating I clicked restore, it then decided not to update and iTunes gave me a bout of errors such as the most common (13,14,1604) and the uncommon (20) after feeling extremely guilty for even bothering with the update in the first place, I did everything possible to make it work such as;
    removing iTunes
Re-installing all apple software incl iTunes.
After managing to calm myself down my friend offered me his 2G 16GB as he was given two iPod's in September by his divorced parent's.
So I plugged this one into iTunes ready to sync it, when suddenly; it decided (against my will) as I'd already purchased the update, to update this one to a 3.0, the exact same process occurred and I now have a brand new iPod that will not restore itself.
May I say I have tried EVERYTHING, un-installing, re-installing, deleting the software updates, re-booting, different computers, I have even tried a jailbreak with no success.
As I live in Scotland and both iPod's were purchased in Argos, I cannot get support from anywhere, any suggestions or help, PLEASE, I am at the end of my tether and I don't want a brand new iPod touch to go to waste.
Can I also mention, I have tried restoring it from various iTunes series, (7.0,8.0 and 9.0) and it is not restoring in any of them.
I have tried jailbreakers; Ra1n and QuickFreedom.
I think this may be to do with the 3.1 software from Apple, therefore, after reading various similar posts, I am not alone.
This has had me in tears as my original 8GB iPod touch was a gift from my recently deceased grandfather and the fact it has broken has had me in tears.
    Anyway, help is well appreciated

I had the same problem once and right now I'm typing this reply on the iPod that had the error, so it's a semi-easy fix. This isn't the way I did it but as soon as I remeber I'll post that as well.
Ok, first check to see if your iPod is connected to your computer via a USB hub. If so then unplug it and plug directly into a USB port on your computer.
If that doesn't work try updating the USB driver like this:
    1. Plug your iPod into the computer (no USB hub).
    2. Quit iTunes if it is open.
    3. Click on the start menu.
    4. Click control panel.
    5. In the control pane,l click on administrative tools. If you don't see this option look at the left column and click switch to classic view. You should then be able to click administrative tools.
    6. Double click the computer management option.
    7. In the left column you see the device manager option under the system tools folder.
    8. In the right column, click the plus sign next to universal bus controllers to expand this option.
    9. In the dropdown list look for anything related to iPod or Apple. You might see something like "iPod" or "Apple Mobile Device." You may also see a yellow colored exclamation point symbol, which means you need to update the driver.
    10. RIGHT CLICK the "iPod" or "Apple Mobile Device" and choose update driver from the menu.
    11. A hardware update wizard will pop up. Choose "Yes, this time only," then click next.
    12. Select insall the software automatically and click next.
If that doesn't work let me know. This is a fix I found on the Internet. Some people still had trouble afterwards and others didn't.

  • My iPod Nightmare (won't restore in itunes 7)

    My iPod Nightmare
    My specs:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (fully updated)
    iTunes 7.0
    iPod Video 60GB 5th Generation
Problems started about a month ago. At first, I stopped being able to eject the iPod, from iTunes or from Windows directly. This lasted for a few days. Then, iTunes stopped recognizing the iPod altogether, though Windows still recognized it as a mass storage device.
I then tried using the iPod Updater tool to restore my iPod. It gave me an "iPod service error", and refused to restore it. After restarting my computer multiple times, reinstalling the latest version of the updater tool, and still getting the same error, my iPod died completely. All it gave me was a folder with an exclamation point, and a link to the Apple support website. The batteries eventually dwindled away to the point where I could no longer turn on my iPod.
A couple weeks later, about a day after iTunes 7.0 was introduced, I brought my iPod to an Apple Store in hopes that they could replace it with a new one (I figured the harddrive was fried and it was beyond fixing). To my suprise, the tech guy actually got it to work again, though he formatted it for a Mac. So he went back to format it for Windows. About 20 minutes later, he came out and gave me some excuse about Norton Antivirus not allowing him to restore it, but that if I brought it home and reformatted it with iTunes 7, it should work fine.
So I took it home and plugged it into my computer, with my brand new installation of iTunes 7.0. To my joy it recognized my iPod, and said it needed to be reformatted/updated. So it downloaded the software it needed from the music store, and began the process of restoring it with the updates.
About halfway through, iTunes informed me that a restore error had occured, and that the iPod could not be restored. so I ejected my iPod, closed out of iTunes, restarted my computer, and tried again.
When I plug iPod in now, it first tells me that "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore.....". It tells me that my ipod is up to date. When I click the restore button, it says "There was a rpoblem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found."
And now I'm stuck. I checked around on the Apple knowledge base and discussion forums for hours, found nothing to help me. I called Apple Tech Support, who's brilliant advice was to check the Apple support site (which I have been doing pretty much every day for the last month). He then wanted to charge me $50 for the phone call (rofl). After I told the tech support guy that I was under no circumstances giving them $50, he let me at least describe my problem to him. Then he recommended that I completely uninstall iTunes, reinstall, and try again (this did nothing whatsoever, although it gave me more headaches when the installer informed me that it couldn't start the iPodService the first time around).
I've been an iPod fan and owner for many years, but I am so frusterated right now that I'm seriously considering other options for portable music players. iTunes 7.0 is one of the buggiest, most overbloated pieces of software I have ever encountered that passes itself off as a "final" version (this release should have been a beta). But for now, I just want my iPod to work. Can anyone help me?

  • IPod Classic won't Restore and FREEZES/LOCKS iTUNES! Help.

    Hi. First, the specifics:
I have an iPOD Classic (120GB).
    I have Windows Vista R2 (64-bit).
I have the latest version of iTunes, yes, for 64-bit.
With that out of the way, I started seeing issues with my iPod not being able to play certain songs. I'd find the song, hit the play arrow, nothing would happen. The time would not move, song would not play. Here's what I've tried to do initially:
    Re-install iTunes, re-sync.
Still wouldn't play these songs.. Not all, but many songs.
    So, I tried to Restore.
Initially, it looked like it was restoring properly - - but took way longer than usual. Like 2 hours. At the end, I got an error "Could not sync this song, Could not sync iPod."
I looked at iPod, had to set it up, choose ENGLISH as language, etc.  Search iPod, found NO MUSIC, NO VIDEOS, etc.
    Tried simply re-syncing, wouldn't work.
So, I disconnected, restarted my computer and tried to RESTORE again.
I connect it via a USB 2.0 and the iPod cable. I have been doing this for years and years and this iPod has worked for the 3 years I have had it.
I have had iPod since their inception, so I'm not a rookie. I also have an iPhone and an iPad2.
So I connect the iPod as usual. NOW, it basically FREEZES iTunes. I CONTL-ALT-DEL and find it's always iTunes (NOT RESPONDING).
This happens EVERY TIME... I tried restarting several times, same issue.
So, I unistalled all components of iTunes > RESTART COMPUTER.
I re-download the latest version of iTunes, yes the correct one.
I tried syncing or restoring. DOESN'T RECOGNIZE iPOD, FREEZES/LOCKS iTUNES.
HERE'S OTHER THINGS I have tried:
RESTORING from DISK MODE. (DID NOT WORK, LOCKS iTUNES)
I downloaded the Windows Update for Vista that helps not corrupt iPod when disconnecting too early.
Downloaded update, did NOT help with the issue.
Un-installed iTunes again. Restarted computer. Re-installed newest version of iTunes.
ONE THING TO POINT OUT, when I connect my iPod, iTunes launches if not open and I get a WINDOWS box that says:
    MICROSOFT WINDOWS:
Do You Want To Scan And Fix Errors on Steven's iPod (L:) ??
I tried both options: YES, Try to Fix, NO - Continue
That doesn't work, and iTunes still freezes regardless of option.
Again, tried DISK MODE, tried Regular mode...
    Nothing works...
    PLEASE HELP...

Guys, if you all having the same problem as Steven, then do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.
Main cause is the iPod Hardisk is dying, but if the DD report are good, then it is the USB connection timeout.
So have a go at the Disk Diagnostic first.

  • The iPod "iPod" could not be restored because it is busy

My 20g ipod started giving me trouble a few weeks ago after I loaded some post-Christmas purchases. It wouldn't load the last few songs, and it was half-empty, so capacity wasn't an issue.
I next tried to restore the iPod, but my mac mini then seized up, and the restart hung, so I had to do a hard restart.
Upon restart, the iPod was obviously now corrupted, with only a half-completed restore, so I tried again.
This time, and every time since, I get the following error message: The iPod "iPod" could not be restored because it is busy
So, I next followed the 5 R's, to no avail.
Disk Utility gives me the error Disk Erase failed Disk Erase failed with the error: Input/Output error
I also tried security erase, and while it starts with the overwrite, it eventually kicks out of the process with another I/O error.
Today, I downloaded iTunes 7.6 with the hope that it would fix this issue, as it has been surfacing in discussions pretty commonly. I thought this was reasonable, because of some difficulties with iTunes after the release of the iPhone were solved upon the next release of iTunes.
Unfortunately, I am facing the exact same situation.
There is one additional step I was able to take by trial and error, and one further step I am considering.
When I originally searched this topic, I came upon a "diagnostic mode" fix that's supposed to be accessed only by the iPod nano.
Using this mode, I was able to run several tests, and ram checks out, and one of the two disk tests come back fine.
Since I don't know what the alphabet test results mean, this was about all I was able to gather.
I attemmpted to use the diagnostic mode reset, but the problem continued.
My final thought, aside from waiting for a further iTunes update, was to dig out a third-party disk utility I have here somewhere and see if that will erase the iPod.
    Any suggestions out there?

I was able to solve this by (warning, this will void your warranty) taking the iPod apart, very carefully. Being careful not to separate the cables inside, place a folded business card on the hard disk, and place the metal half back on.
Do a Google search if you don't believe me.
Oh, and for the gent from Apple that removed the post containing URL with pictures of this fix, I do NOT receive any cash, complensation, self esteem or other recompense or good feeling from posting this fix, or directing people to search for it.
