Ipod has frozen, cannot reset

Hello all,
First time post = first time problem.
I was listening to my ipod when it froze. Thats happened a few times, but I couldn't reset it. Which has never happened. I connected it to the USB port and into my computer but neither the ipod nor my PC has realised that they are connected. Is there anything I can do? Or should I just wait till it runs out of battery and then play it?
Regards, and much thanks in advance.
Jobba

If resetting doesn't work, try restoring the iPod to factory settings.
Put the iPod into disk mode first.
Putting iPod into disk mode.
Restoring erases the iPod hard drive, so you will need to reload your songs from iTunes.

Ipod has frozen I have tried to reset it but no luck, please help?

Let's ensure you are doing the reset process correctly.
How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
If this doesn't work, try restoring the iPod to factory settings.
Restoring erases the iPod hard drive, so you will need to reload your songs from iTunes.

my ipod has frozen and i cannot get the wheel to spin

Perhaps it would be a good idea to try a hard reset of the device.  To do this, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If the issue still persists, you'll want to connect the iPod to iTunes and restore it to factory settings allowing it to receive a fresh new copy of its software and rebuild all of its essential databases that could have become corrupt.  This will help rule out a software issue.

  • My ipod has frozen and isn't being recognised by itunes

Recently, my iPod has been having troubles. It's been freezing in the middle of songs and when I try to change track, and, up till today, it's recovered. It's now been frozen for three hours. I restored the factory settings a couple of days ago, and it workeds, but only for a few hours.
This morning, it froze in the middle of the song, and it's now not being recognised by iTunes. I've tried to do a hard reset, but it's not responding at all.
It's an iPod Classic 30GB, and I think it's a 5th Generation. I got it second hand, and so I don't think I can take it and get it fixed and whatnot without paying money. Is it worth getting a new iPod? There is an Apple store near me, so I can take it in and see what they say, but as I said, it's second hand and it's past the warrenty.

Charge the iPod for at least 2 hours
Do the iPod Hard Reset -> Press Menu and Center Button simultaneously for at least 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
    Then release the buttons
Refer to this Apple Support article on the 5Rs.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
If you plan to get a new iPod, get the iPod Touch and avoid at all cost the iPod Classic, the new generation of HD in the iPod Classic appear to be not very sturdy and reliable, in my Opinion, yours is still more sturdy, (6 years old), but the battery and hardisk would be  in the last lap. The full charge battery should last at least 20 hours of continuos music.
You can do the iPod Disk diagnostic to see the HD health, as posted by tt2.

Don't worry about the Mac user, the DD process refer only to iPod Classic.
    Have a nice day!

  • My Ipod has frozen

It's just frozen, tried turning it on and off, it's fully charged but nothing nada - can anyone help

When an iPod is frozen, the first thing to do is to Force Quit an application.
From the iPod Touch User Guide:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button on top of iPod touch for a few seconds until a red >slider appears, then press and hold the Home button until the application quits.
You can also try to reset the iPod Touch.
From the iPod Touch User Guide:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten >seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If worse comes to worst, you can always restore your iPod Touch
From the iPod Touch User Guide:
Connect iPod touch to your computer. Select iPod touch in the iTunes sidebar and click the >Summary tab.
Click “Check for Update.” iTunes tells you if there’s a newer version of the iPod touch software >available.
Click Restore. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process. When restoring, >it is recommended that you back up iPod touch when prompted.
When the iPod touch software has been restored, you can either set it up as a new iPod touch, or >restore your music, videos, application data, and other content from a backup.
After restoring from a backup, previous data is no longer accessible through the iPod touch user >interface, but it isn’t erased from your iPod touch. For information about erasing all content and >settings, see “Resetting iPod touch” on page 143.

  • My Ipod has Frozen twice now

Half way through a song it has frozen on me and I've had to wait till the battery died once and the next time I took it apart and unplugged the battery. I also tried many times to plug it into my computer and reseting it many time with no change to the unit. Is there a reason for this to be happening? Ive only had it for 5 months. Is there a way I can get it to stop freezing or a better way then waiting for the battery to die?
    Froger

    Hey froger,
I have a couple of options here. None of these are guaranteed to work, but you've got nothing to lose by trying them.
    First things first!
When the iPod decides to freeze, I want you to try the 5 R's. The instructions on how to do this can be found by clicking here : http://www.apple.com/uk/support/ipod/five_rs/
The other thing I could reccommend is that you dont have too many videos and photos, and you dont have over what your iPod can hold in terms of songs.
If none of these help, I suggest you call your nearest Apple store and tell them the situation. As it is within its warranty (you've only had it 5 months), they will try and fix it free of charge, and if they cant fix it, you have the right to ask for a brand new one, again, free of charge.
    I hope this helps,
    Ryan
Please Note : I use Apple UK's site for links.

Try force your iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
    Note: Data will be lost.

  • Help! my ipod has frozen & will not respond to reset

I cannot get my ipod to repond to anything, I have just installed the latest version of itunes plus quicktime & when I connected to my PC the do not disconnect appeared on the screen but windows & itunes does not see the ipod, I tried resetting it in the troubleshoot & nothing works, it is stuck with the do not disconnect sighn on the screen, I cannot turn it off.

I am having the same problem with both my 60g and my sisters 20 classic iPods. Both iPods are showing the frowning iPod with the following: www.apple.com/support/ipod. I have tried to reset, I have tried to get the iPod to go to disk mode, this worked once on both, but then they both go back to the stupid sad iPod! This is frustrating, because I can't get either of the iPods to be recognized in the iTunes either. Nothing wrong with iTunes, because the video nano appears in the iTunes! Help!! Someone, please help us fix this!!!

  • My Ipod Nano has frozen, cannot be recognised by PC or Windows+wont charge!

I got my Ipod Nano christmas day and it worked perfectly- no problems at all. I came home boxing day, and charged it on PC ( all the itunes were installed) and it worked fine. The day after (today 27th) I used it around 9 O'clock in the morning, it worked perfectly and charged fine. I left it on my bed and went out about 11 O'Clock. I came back around 3 O'Clock and it wouldn't work. It won't switch on, charge up, and my PC and Windows doesn't even acknowledge it when i plug in the USB port. I have tried all my USB ports, pressing the buttons simoutaenously like it mentions in the support, but nothing!
I have no idea what to do! Can anyone help at all please! Thankyou x

I'm having this problem, as well.
I got my iPod Nano 4GB back in May and it worked for about two months. I then stopped using it for about three months or so. I wanted to use it this past week and I'm having the exact same problems that are listed above.
A message comes up on my iPod with the support URL on the Apple website (http://apple.com/support) and that's all that appears (I've tried to restart and charge it both by computer and charger, but the same message appears). After plugging it into the computer, the iTunes program registers the iPod but, after unplugging it from the computer, the support message reappears.
I've gone to the support link and tried everything on it, but nothing changes and the message still appears.
After pressing the centre and play buttons on the iPod, a new message appears. On the top of the screen, it says "Disk Mode" with a half-full bar on the right, where it usually is (but the bar was completely empty earlier today, for whatever reason). In the centre of the screen is a checkmark with "OK to Disconnect" underneath it. When this screen appears (and the screen doesn't light up when this message comes up), I can't get rid of it, until I plug the iPod into the charger. Once again, the support message comes up.
I really don't know what to do, but I've seen several messages similar to this problem throughout the Apple support forums. I agree with Sporky that, if these problems keep on occuring, they should recall these iPods.
Any help would be highly appreciated!

  • HELP! iPod has frozen

I need urgent help. My iPod was working fine this afternoon, I plugged it into my comp and now has completely frozen on the Do Not Disconnect screen. It is not charging and even when disconnected it still has the same screen. When plugged back in it says the same. My computer isn't recognising it either. Please help as I need it for a long haul flight tomorrow!

Let the iPod battery die. After it has died, plug it back in and it should be fine. You night not have it for your flight, but it should work again.
There's always that old portable CD player.

  • My ipod has frozen when i unplugged it. ing .

My ipod is years old, BUT I've taken very good care of it. I've had it since 2009 or 2008 (it's the old version), and it's stuck on the screen that still says: Connected. Eject before disconnecting. And it wont die, because the screen is stuck on charging. The time hasn't even changed on it !
! the help and reset and restore stuff on help DID NOT help me at all because when i plug it in it still is stuck. HELP ME!!!!!!

Charge it for at least 2 hours.
Make sure your Hold switch is released - cant see the red indicator.
To Reset - Press Menu and Center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
Most people just press both buttons for a few secs and say it wont work.
    Have a nice day.
