IPod has no disk space? freezes when trying to update...

I was using my iPod through my stereo and in the middle of playing a song it stopped. Then it started going very quickly through the songs as if they weren't there. Then I let the battery die down (hoping it might reset itself or something) but when I was done charing it and I turned it on I got the folder with an exclamation point. I turned it off then back on again. This time it worked, but all the songs were gone. I connected it to my computer and it said that the disk is unreadable. I tried initializing the disk to see if it would work. But it didn't then I initialized the hard disk using iPod restore from the iPod updater. It worked, and it said I should plug the iPod in using the wall power adapter. I did and I plugged it back into the computer and tried updating the songs. It got to 5 and then the iPod froze. But the computer still said "updating iPod". So I unplugged it knowing that it was frozen and I reset the iPod so it would "Unfreez" and I plugged it back in. I tried updating again and it said I only had 4 songs updated. (None of the songs were visable on the iPod. I unplugged it from the computer and reset it a second time. I turned on the iPod and looked at the "about" section located in the settings section of the iPod and it said the iPod format is "Unknown" and that there were 0 songs on iPod and that the available space was "0" and the capacity of the iPod was "0" So, I obviousley have no clue what is going on! This iPod is only about 15 months old. I would REALLY appreciate any tips! Thanks! -TWA

Actually, I justed fixed it. The problem was it wasn't mounting correctly so I couldn't install the software on the iPod. This time I plugged in the iPod using the firewire cable and it worked. I opened up the latest iPod updater and went to restore. I did restore, and updated all of the songs. It worked now. Hope this might help someone else out there who has a similer problem to mine. Thanks. -TWA

If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

  • Itunes 7 freezes when trying to update 5G Video Ipod 30G

Ever since I've upgraded to Itunes 7, every time I plug in my 5G 30gig ipod, Itunes will crash, and not update at all. I have tried absolutely everything, and cannot seem to make it work, so my ipod has been essentially not updateable for 2 months. I have about 26Gigs of music and I don't think this should matter.
Toshiba Satellite Pro M70   Windows XP Pro

First uninstall itunes AND quicktime, disable your antivirus then download/install the latest iTUnes from apple.com
Some Toshiba laptops use to have issues with ipods, so goto toshibas site and make sure your model has ALL the updates that apply from the toshiba site
Thirdly there does seem to be some issue with directX and syncing crashing or being REALLY slow to the ipod, so update your directX from Microsoft.com and when syncing the ipod make sure you have itunes showing anything but the new "iPod summery" page, like hit the "Music" Library or something.
Apple is trying to work and fix the issue, just keep in mind iTunes 7 is a MAJOR update/change from iTunes 6 and has only been out barly over a month so they will iRon this issues out over the holiday season

  • Disk space error when trying to access iPhoto library on external drive

My iPhoto photos are stored on an external drive, which I've be accessing regularly on my old Macbook.  I upgraded to a newer (but used) Macbook that has Yosemite installed and, therefore, Photos.  When I try to access my iPhoto library on the external drive, I get an error that there is not enough disk space.  There is a lot of disk space on the new Mac.  The eternal drive is getting full, but I deleted a lot of large files and there should be enough space on there now.
    Any ideas?
    I'm stumped!

What format is that external drive?

  • Itunes freezes when trying to update

my system crashed last week and i had to restore the operating system. since then i've been slowly putting it back together piece by piece. i used a program called ipodcopy to take everything (music/video/pictures) off my ipod and put it back on my computer and my new itunes library looked just like the one on my ipod but now that i've added more music and want to update, i've hit the last (i hope) wall in this reconstruction.
i've made sure to switch settings like auto. update back on and unchecked enable disk use. when i agree that doing all that will replace what is currently on my ipod with what is currently in the library and say yes to linking this library to the ipod rather than the old one - it freezes. i tried a few times over the last two days and the same thing happens.
i'm almost there. someone please help me!

No, a restore shouldn't take an hour.!!! Like maybe 10 minutes, max.
If you had to put iPod into Disk Mode before restoring, the iPod screen may display "OK to Disconnect" and you may need to reset iPod.

  • 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac freezing when trying to update and non responsive

I have a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac.  The updates download but when the mac tries to restart to complete the process the screen is just grey with a tool bar across the top System Updates, however the imac is completely unresponsive and will not even force quit.  I have even left it overnight on a couple of occasions in case it is due to the size if the update but to no success and have to turn the machine off manually.  It operates and functions during use but freezes when shutting down.
Any one have any experience of this or suggestions please?

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • TO EVERYONE HAVING LOW SPACE PROBLEMS WHEN TRYING TO UPDATE TO 2.3

If you're trying to update your Droid Incredible from Android 2.2 to 2.3.4, but it's failing due to a low space error, then check out the following solution that worked for me and for many others:
    http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-droid-incredible/134246-second-gb-update-patch-wont-reboot-issue-solved.html
I'm happy to say that my update went generally smoothly, without any noticeable problems so far.
Perhaps this could be a sticky, so that people don't continue to start new threads about this problem?

    Hello johnsold,
Thank you for replying. Enclosed is a picture where can be seen the motor address. This case is for motor 1, for motor 2 would be number 2 and 3 for motor 3. It works if I run the programs one by one. Anyway I enclose the generic example without any manipulation by myself.
    Thanks again.

  • Frustrated! iPod keeps freezing when trying to update

My 40G iPod keeps freezing whenever I try to update it. I plug it into the computer, iTunes starts but then freezes after a song or two. Sometimes it crashes me whole machine. In any case, I can't add any music to my iPod, rendering it useless. I've seen s imilar posts but no solutions. I installed the latest iPod updater software and am using the latest version of iTunes. Funnily, this problem didn't start until I upgraded to the newest iTunes. Can anyone help? This is very very frustrating.

Me too .. very frustrating, spent the last 3 hrs looking for solutions.
Also noticed Apple has suspended downloads of itunes 6 for the time being ... wondering if its a related bug.

  • Safari has no windows and freezes when trying to report

When I start Safari (1.3.2) it bounces and the menu line appears - after that nothing happens.
I have tried to empty caches, trash the preferences and even downloading an upgrade, which doesn't work on my eMac
I have tried Repair permission but it stops during repairing saying there is a problem...
I hope somebody out there can help

    You're welcome.
Good to keep your computer maintained. I find OnyX (Panther v 1.5.3) up to the task. The app's help menu will explain its various features. If you're not sure, create another post in the OS X Panther forum.
Also, here is a MacWorld article on system maintenance.

  • IPhoto 09 freezes when trying to update from 08 library

Working on my parents' iMac G4. Running Leopard, updated to iLife 09 (which is compatible, except for iMovie per Apple page). I started iPhoto 09 and it indicates the library needs to be updated.
the first few times I ran this, it froze with 38 minutes remaining. After a couple tries, I went into Users/Preferences and removed the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file. It then got farther along and now freezes at 8 minutes remaining.
I am not sure what the problem is or if there is a fix. Not too worried about the photos themselves--have time machine running, etc. This should be working. Any help?

The most likely cause is the app is meeting a damaged or corrupt file in the updating process. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • My apple ID has an old email embedded when trying to update my apps. Managing my apple ID does not seem to correct the email at login

How do I remove an old email from my app update log in? I have updated and saved all settings on Apple ID and done a power off and on but still can not update my app (Direct TV).

You can only update an app when you are signed in with the IDthat was used to purchase it.

  • Itunes freezes when trying to insert IPOD

    Hello all,
We are trying to restore a click shell IPOD (+ HP). When Itunes is running and the IPOD is inserted in the base attached via USB to the computer (Dell D620), Itunes freezes thus preventing the restoration. I have tried to deinstall Itunes and reinstall but no luck. Any ideas?
    Jordan

Since no one has replied to my requests, I will reply to myself.
It turns out that the IPOD may have had really bad stiction.
I got it restored using the origninal HP+IPOD CD installer. But then when trying to get all 485 songs downloaded in Itunes it got to about 147 and hung. So, I "carefully" tapped the sides of the IPOD actually harder than many times before. I then did a soft reset on the IPOD and started to download the 485 songs again from Itunes. This time it worked with no problems. Now, the question is whether it will hold up this time or start "sticking" again.
