  • IPod Photo not displaying album artwork

My iPod Photo was displaying all of the album artwork until I created playlists. I created 6 playlists and then all of my artwork disappeared, including artwork from songs not in playlists. It still shows the artwork when the iPod is connected to my computer. Does anyone know what the deal is with this?

  • IPod with colour display frozen in 'hold' mode

My iPod with colour display has frozen whilst in 'hold' mode. Toggling 'hold' does not unlock 'hold'. Screen remains frozen despite following reset steps and searching he forums. Anyone got any suggestions or links for me to check out please ?
    Thanks, Jeff

The reason I asked about podcasts is that I experienced that problem for much of a year and it was finally fixed with one of the recent updates to iPod and/or iTunes. I also found that Reset may take 10 or more attempts. I know it's a pain, but, just keep trying for a long time. Another thing that may work is to just leave it sit for a day or so until the battery goes fully discharged, then do the Restore.

  • A new ipod has been detected but cannot be identified. [drivers?]

Yes -that again- the reason I'm making a new post is that this is the second time an ipod hasn't worked with me, I would like to know if there's something I can do to my system or whatever to repair it. Here's the situation.
    - Just so ya know, I use Vista on a laptop [unfortunatley]
    - Previously [as in yesterday] I had an ipod touch, it was stuck in recovery mode and nothing [and I mean nothing] worked to recover it, it wasn't being recognized at all. This problem occured when I installed Itunes 9.
    - Today I bought myself a brand new iPod Nano (5th Gen) for several reasons [not just to do with the itouch breaking, I was sick to death of the thing in general], took it home and connected it. 'A new ipod has been detected but cannot be identified' yadda yadda.
    - I tried everything, I have also downgraded my itunes back to 8, still the same message!! Argh! Here's the thing (that I think might be causing the problem) when I open Device Manager and go to Universal Serial Bus Controllers, there is no apple/ipod recognized. There is a 'USB Mass Storage Device' whch has an error symbol next to it, I've tired updating/reinstalling it etc and it doesn't work ):
    - Is there anything anyone can do? I'm so sick of ipods breaking on me. Just so you guys know, I'm not completley computer savvy so i'll need precise instructions, thanks so much to anyone who can help me.

This is how it's displayed: http://i50.tinypic.com/nd7vk7.jpg
And this is what happens when I click properties and 'search for solutions': http://i47.tinypic.com/2iu3vrc.jpg (the box disappears after that, apparently having done nothing, when I search online for software it informs me my computer already has the best/latest installed)
    I use a Toshiba Satelite L350-170, my Vista is a 32-bit Thankyou!

  • Ipod w/color display not recognized by Mac

I cannot get my Mac to recognize a new ipod w/color display, which has previously only been formatted to a PC.
I used to have my ipod w/color display linked to my Mac, but, then it was stolen. My friend, who had the same exact ipod, gave me hers, which is the one I am now attempting to use on my Mac. She had it linked to an out-of-date version of itunes on her PC. I am aware this could be the issue.
However, on top of this, the new ipod has some battery issues. I have not been able to get my computer or charger to recognize it; when I plug it in to either it does nothing. It only works when attached to ihome or a car charger. I took the ipod to my local Genius Bar, who was able to get it to come to life when attached to their Mac. Ultimately, they restored it but told me that the battery was corrupted (they said that it was fully charged but the battery was still reading itself as dead, thus not turning on).
Why can I not get my Mac to recognize it? If I have it connected to my Mac, shouldn't it come to life when I plug it in? If I can't get it to come to life, how can I update it? Will a new battery fix any of this???

    Hi SultanAshraf,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue with your iPod shuffle being recognized by iTunes on your Mac. Try the suggestions in the in the troubleshooting assistant below, they will resolve most issues like the one you described.

  • IPod won't display imported photos

I use iPod Photo mainly to upload photos from my digital camera in the field. It has always displayed a thumbnail of the pic in the little dotted box as they are imported, and afterwards they can be viewed and checked by selecting the Roll, then Browse. Suddenly, nothing can be seen, and at Browse, the blank images display a message that "This file cannot be viewed on iPod". I have installed the latest updates and restored iPod to the factory settings (which involved wiping out music and contacts) but still nothing. The pic files are there in the DCIM folder, and upload and display perfectly on the computer, but it's a huge disadvantage if they can't be checked on screen in the field. Is it possible that some of this year's updates have cancelled the ability to view the photos? If not, what's the cause of the problem?
    Powermac G4 2x800/ iBook G3 700   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I don't know, but I have the same problem. In ITunes Preferences, I have some IPhoto albums selected to import onto my IPod. Most of them do, but I get an error message:
Some of your photos, including the photo "billy & Neal cuddling.jpg" were not copied to the iPod "Kevin Kraft's iPod 917-312-7594" because they cannot be displayd on your iPod
Why do some pictures not display? If you find out, please let me know.
The irony is that the album that contains that image was at one time set in Itunes Preferences to show on my IPod, but it has been deselected for some time. So why would I cotinue get the error message?

  • My iPod mini's display is blank

I KNOW that the contrast is as high as it goes, but the display is totally blank. If I keep pushing the buttons I can make it play, but can't read anything. Just this morning when I plugged it into the computer, the battery thing came on very strong, but then it faded and again I can't see anything. Everything else seems to be working well, but like I said I can only do things by trial and error for not being able to see what I'm doing.
    HELPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am also having this problem. My Ipod 4g mini was brand new out of the box. I hooked it up to my ibook G4 10.3.9. Transferred songs to it from ITunes and then waited for the battery to fully charge for a few hours. I came back. Dismounted the Ipod, unplugged it from the USB and the screen was fine. But while I was scrolling through songs the screen began to get very faint. I went into the contrast and turned it up thinking it might be an 'available light' issue. It seemed better. I put the Ipod down to answer the phone and when I came back the screen was gone. No next, no pixels. No nothing. The backlight still worked, but there was still no text.
Now the weird things is that the music still played and the click wheel still clicked but I just couldn't read what was on the screen.
Being a long time Mac user (back to the SE), I fushed it out, restored it, reset it, tested my connections. Updated Itunes and the Software update etc. Nothing worked. Still no screen display.
(SKIP DOWN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR ME RANT)
So I took it back to the store I bought it from and was politely told that because I had opened it, they couldn't take it back. They directed me to the local Apple Store here. I took it there and was told they'd never heard of that problem before and then directed me to call the 1-800 Apple support line. I did that and after waiting on hold for 40 minutes (!!), they suggested I restore, and fiddle with contrast etc etc. After telling them I'd done all they, they said they'd never heard of this problem before. And told me to fill out a form to get it sent in to be fixed. Not to mention I bought it for a trip I'm taking and now won't be able to take it.
    (END OF RANT)
Now, Apple said they hadn't heard of this problem before. But clearly, I am not alone in this. I have searched the discussions and found a few more instances where people have had the same exact problem.
We have to let apple know there's some sort of defect on these so other people don't get duped into buyin' them.
Oh, and by the way, if anyone has a solution to this screen fading issue. That'd be great. Thanks.
I mean BESIDES the all-encompassing "Try resetting it."
Also, I've read in this forum that a woman had the same problem, sent it back to apple, got it back and the same thing happened again. What gives?

  • My ipod has a blank screen and the computer won't see it

Ok, I have an ipod video that I just got from the apple repair shop about a week ago, and it's not working at all. I'm pretty sure I got a virus on it from a song, but I can't do anythign because the computer won't read it. It's had plenty of charge, I had it plugged into the wall for hours and then plugged it into my computer and it doesn't even read it, and when it's plugged in I can't even open iTunes. Anyone else having this problem?

hmmm. it might be worth checking through the following document:

  • IPod does not display album cover art

I recently updated to iTunes 9 and also bought a new MacBook Pro. Then I synced my old iPod color with my new Mac. Since then my iPod does not display the album art work anymore. I was looking through iTunes 9 for the option to display the artwork on the iPod because I remembered that setting from older versions but could not find it. Does iTunes 9 just asume my iPod can't display covers because it is a 4th gen even though it is the color version?

hi mduran, no i could not find any solution. My iPod (60gb, probably the same as yours) is filled to the top and has been before the iTunes update and then it worked fine. I think this is a bug in iTunes. It's interesting to see that this happens in the Mac and Windows version of iTunes. Is there any way of telling Apple about that so it will be in the next update?

    Hey gwscrt,
Since iTunes directed to you to restore your iPod, I'd check out the following article that goes over the steps to do so:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339
I would read the document in full, but here are the applicable steps for you:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    Have a good one,
    David

  • 5th generation ipod has 'locked' up!

I don't get it. My ipod, a 5th generation ipod, has a dimly lit screen, it displays "Do Not Disconnect". I have been through the 5 R's on Apples site, to no avail. I cannot get the pod to shut off, or respond in any way. Also, iTunes doesn't even see it. Any help, greatly appreciated.

Personally, I would disconnect and reset while connected to a power outlet (of course you need a wall charger for that). Then if the iPod is seen when you reconnect to the computer reformat it again. If all else fails go to the Apple Store or call Applecare.
