IPod headphone jack faulty

Hi! First time on here, just been having problems with my iPod headphone jack.
The trouble is, when I plug headphones in, it misses half the sound as if it's only playing one ear through both, and sometimes it misses all the words and it just sounds plain weird. If I put some headphones in half way it works, but the slightest movement and then it cuts off entirely, and other times I push the earphone right in, and twist it a bit but the same problem occurs.
First up... any ideas for how I could resolve this issue myself? Is it a good idea to try and have it repaired through some sort of third party type fixey places?
If not, which I presume will be the case, is it worth me paying for a single incident of support thing to speak to someone? Does that cover any repair or just the phone call?

- The telephone support price is for the call only. It does not include repair/replacement.
- Does the heaphones pwork OK in other devices?
- Do other headphones work in your iPod?i
- If it is an iPod problem and your iPod is withn warranty I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
- Headphones jacks do go bad.  Apple will aoly excahnge yur iPod for a refurbished one for this price:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
- A third-party place like the following is less expensive. Goolge for more.

  • IPod headphone-jack no longer making connection

The headphone-jack connection is worn-out. I've tried using 3 different headphones with the same male specifications and music was still audible from the iPod and not through any of the headphones. Thus, I am sure that the iPod headphone-jack is malfunctioning. It was purchased about a year ago, but it only has a one year warranty and I no longer have the receipt.
Any suggestions? It would be much appreciated.

The earphones must be pushed very hard into the iPod. So hard, that the white part of the plug must touch the iPod in order for the external speakers to turn off. You will hear a click.
If you do a forum search, you will find this same solution. If it does not work, you will need to take your iPod to an apple store or call the Apple iPod tech support if still under warranty or you have Apple Care.  You may have a hardware problem.

  • My ipod headphone jack is only allowing sound in one headphone. i tried multiple headphones to make sure it wasn't the headphone but the jack itself. i have a ipod video 5th generation.

Had you brought the same pair of headphones to the Apple Store with you and they worked there?  If you hadn't, the wire or plug on those headphones may have failed.  Try a different pair if you can and see if those work.
    Hope this helps

Have you tried another pair of headphones?  If yes the solution is to excahnge the iPod for a refurbished one from Apple for:

  • Ipod + Headphone jack = problem

Hello fellow Ipod users. I needed to know what to do in my situation. For it would seem my 5th Gen ipod's headphone jack gives me the lack of music in my left headphone. I feel the jack itself is a bit out of place, and I'm not sure what to do. Do you believe I could get it fixed through Apples warranty program? Or will they turn me down through the warranties policy? What ever that may be.

Have you tried a different set of headphones? If it is there even with a different set then I would suspect the iPod. If it is still under warranty it should be covered. Only apple can tell you for sure.

  • How can I get my iPod headphone jack fixed?

I am having issues where I can only hear out of one side of the headphones.  I have tried several different headphones and know the problems is not with them it has to be something with the iPod part where the headphones get plugged in.   Any help is appreciated.

    HI debooz09
you should give to a apple store and tell them here's the apple price http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/ OR just search it on google or on youtube to get more ideas to fix the headphone jack.

  • Ok so my iPod headphone jack has been steretch out

My iPod touch 3rd gen the headphone port has been expanded so that it will not play music throw both sides of the headphones. What can I do to make the head phone port smaller to make it work right or do I need to buy a new iPod?

If your halfway comfortable working on something like this go here, http://www.ifixit.com/Products/iPod-5th-Gen/95/Page-2 . Find the model you have and if they have any you can buy one and on the iFixIt site there are guides for doing the work yourself.
If your not comfortable doing it you could send it somewhere such as

Take your pick. An example of the repair cost for the headphone jack would be 89 dollars at the first link I gave you. Shop around and you may find a better price.

  • Ipod headphone jack

Are there any other people that have had multiple problems with the iPod's headphone jack? I've had mine replaced once, but I'm going to try and get it replaced tomorrow. Does Apple flaw its products so that only Apple products work best?

    Yes. No.

  • Ipod headphone jack ruining my headphones?

i dont know whats wrong with my ipod, its been happening for a while. ive gone through two pairs of expensive over ear head phones, at least 5 auxillary cables, and i barely went through a pair of skullcandys.
i think all of them were ruined by my ipod jeadphone jack, the possibility that all the cables were defective is unlikely, and impossible because i used most of them on mycomputer before i used them on my ipod and they worked fine.
this is realllyy starting to **** me off...
is there any thing i can do? can i send my ipod in to get fixed for malfunctioning? .

    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Bring the ruined headphones in addition to the iPod

  • Something stuck in the ipod headphones jack

Ok so i recently was using my ipod and the very end of the headphone metal piece came off in my ipod, what do i do!!??

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you anywhere near an Apple Store or Apple authorized repair facility? If so, you might try taking your computer in and see if a trained technician can get the postit it note out without disassembling the iBook. It is very easy to cause damage by trying to fish it out yourself.
If the post it cannot be fished out by a skilled technician, then probably the iBook would have to be disassembled, which you can either do yourself or have done.
    Good luck!

  • Headphone jack for old iPod

I have an old iPod (2nd gen., 20 gb #1019). The headphone jack is no longer functioning and I cannot find a replacement for it. Any ideas? Please respond to [email protected] Thanks!

Yes. You can either send it into Apple for replacement for a flat fee or you can send it to a 3rd party repair company who will do the job for a lot less.  A simple Google search for iPod headphone jack replacement should give you a number of results to work with.

  • Problem With Headphone Jack

The headphone jack on my ipod is faulty. I think there is a connection problem in the jack of the ipod.
I know it isn't the headphones because i have tried various pairs of headphones.
I got in touch with the place i brought it from and they said to go to Apple directly.
Does anyone know what i have to do to get my ipod repaired? Contact email? Address to send it to?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I to had a problem with my headphone jack. Here is the problem with the iPod headphone jack (or with anyheadphone jack for that matter) Say you like to take your iPod out side, or you leave it in a humid area with the headphones out of it. Very very very small amounts of water will build up in the jack, and this slowly, after about a year coorodes the copper inside. This has happened to two iPods that I have had. Now the only real problem is that, if what i explained above is your problem, it is not covered under the apple warrenty or the apple care program. If you do have to get a new iPod, I would highly suggest getting an Otterbox Water Proof case. It is bulky, but it will save you a lot of money.

  • I don't know if my heaphones are bad or the headphone jack...

This has been happening for a few weeks or so now...the headphones are acting funny/weird... i dont know if its the ipod itself or the headphones and i am totally confused, and i got this as a christmas gift last year and well its totally confusing me... and i need to fingure out if its the ipod headphone jack or the headphones. because sometimes i have to play with the headphone wires to make it play music and i am totally at my last nevrous and i am thinking about putting it away in my closest for good and not bringing it back out for a while and i am about to say screw it i give up and i need some ideas! and if you have any i would be all ears because i am at my wits end with my ipod!! its a video ipod..and i love it to death but i hate seeing it sitting in the closest for years on end so any ideas would be GREATTT! and i truely love it like a baby and i don't like seeing it go to waste in my closest and i hopefully can get someone smart to tell me whats wrong with my ipod because i do not want to pay $15 dollars for replacement headphones when they are just going to crap out on me again! please let me know asap with ideas!!!

Well... find a pair of headphones that you know work fine, and plug them into the iPod. Does it still do the same thing? If it does, it's probably the iPod. If not, it's your earbuds.
Take your iPod earbuds and try them in another device (CD player, computer speakers, etc). If you don't have the same problem, it's the iPod. If you do have the same problem, it's the earbuds.
Either way, if you got the iPod last Christmas, you ought to still be under your warranty. You can go here to either order replacement headphones, or send in your iPod for service.

  • My headphone jack is acting weird

I have a ipod touch 4th gen. Whenever i try to listen to music or anything through ear plugs, all i hear is static and perhaps a faint bit of what im trying to watch in the background but most of it is static. i have used two differ ent ear plugs both have static, but i know these ear plugs are fine cause i can use them on my computer and they work. but If i plug a audio plug into my headphone jack so that I can play music from my ipod through the car, radio, or computer speakers(i put one end into the ipod headphone jack and the other in the microphone jack of the radio or computer), the music plays absoulutely fine. so im really confused about what happened. if anyone has an idea i would love to hear it thanks

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headophone jacl. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
