IPod - Heat v AC?

I have a click-wheel iPod, for a little more than a year (so no warranty help). I plug it into my laptop (multiple USB ports) to try to update it. It won't recognize the iPod. I looked around the forums, and a lot of people are having the same problems.
I keep hearing clicking sounds when it's plugged into the USB. It says "Do not disconnect". Also, after like 3 minutes, something finally shows up on my My Computer screen - "Removable F:" but I can't right click or else the Windows Explorer screen will freeze. No drop down menu, either. After 2 minutes, before the "Removable F" shows up on the My Computer screen, an "Autoplay" box shows up, and the bar is going left to right, etc multiple times. But it doesn't say what it's for, and it has to be for the iPod because at the time I didn't have anything else plugged in. After that, nothing happens. I can play the iPod just fine. But, before I was playing selective songs, and it wouldn't play, then skip to the next song or the next one after that. But I think that's because of the heat, because when I went to a AC filled room, it played those songs without a problem. Though, I'm not entirely too sure. It will still charge, too.
It doesn't show up on iTunes, and iPod restore doesn't work. It won't even recognize it. I downloaded the latest softwares for both programs, and it won't show. I haven't dropped it or anything.
I don't care if I lose the data on the iPod, I just want it back, up and running again. Any suggestions?
Also, another quick thing, I had sent my laptop in for warranty repair, they just replaced the fan and heatsink, and the reformatted, etc... Could that be why the iPod is not recognized? I mean, it shouldn't cause I've reformatted millions of times, then was able to get the iPod to be recognized later on. It already came with preinstalled iTunes, but I got that updated to the latest version. I also tried other iPod software programs, but those didn't even recognize it either.
I'm on Win XP.

  • IPod heat exposure

    Hello,
I was washing my car and I didn't realize my iPod was sitting directly in the sun. It will not turn on anymore. o_O
How do I fix my iPod after heat exposure?
    Nay

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. How temperature cam permanently damage the battery and maybe other parts too.

  • IPod heating up and will not pick up Wi-Fi

    Hello,
My iPod has been experiencing problems lately. I was using it and it keeps getting hot! Also, It won't pick up Wi-Fi! I know there is some network's around.
    Just please help me!!!!
    -ipodreed

Does it see and connect to any networks?
How hot is hot and what are you doing with it when it is hot.
    Have you reset your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Next would be to restore the ipod, firs from backup and then to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Ipod Touch 4g cracked screen

so today my ipod accidentally fell out of my shirt pocket and hit the floor, the screen is cracked at the edges and some at the middle do you think apple will replace the ipod or replace the screen for free as it is under warrenty?

then can i claim that i dont like it when the ipod heats up and is a burn hazard to my children? it heats up when you play games on it for like 20 min (puzzles & hardcore) you think they will replace it then?

  • Heats up

The IPod heated up.  The screen went white and could not be turned off.  Had to press both on/off and the home button to do a hard reboot.  Now the IPod will not charge or turn on.

The battery has been drained. You will have to find some way to restore

  • SERIOUS PROBLEM - need help! flashing lights!

my ipod has turned into a strobe light machine.
it started when my ipod's battery died. i tried to charge it through a usb hub and power cable. that is, i powered the usb hub directly from a wall socket, then used the ipod cord plugged into the hub to charge it.
    *the battery fried*
i went to batteries plus and got a replacement battery. i installed it myself. about a minute later, the ipod heated up veyr rapidly. i feared it would melt the hardrive so i disconnected it and reconnected it. i did this about a dozen times, each time it still got dangerously hot.
then i broke the ribbon cable to the battery.
i didn't do anything to the ipod after that for about 6 months.
i got a new battery today. i retried it, everything worked fine. no heating up. i went to go charge it by plugging it into the computer and itunes popped up saying that the ipod was corrupted, i may have to restore it. so i hit restore, and then it said it couldnt restore because of an *unknown errpr*.
    dammit.
the screen had gone a dark grey. i disconnected the battery and reconnected it. the ipod hissed - like a cockroach or somthing - when i did and it began to flash on and off again like a strobe light.
    whiteblackwhiteblackwhiteblack thats all it does.
this is the same problem that happened when i fried the first battery
now im INCREDIBLY frustrated. imi praying that someone can please help me!!!!!
thanks and sorry for the long post. this is my first one by the way.

Exactly. Try http://www.iresq.com or http://www.ipodmods.com or one of the other 3rd party repair sites.

  • Apple logo and a bar with no progress after iOS 5 update D:

After updating to iOS 5, strange things are happening now on my 32GB iPod touch 4th Gen..... It gest stuckwith a black background, a the apple logo, and a white progress bar with no progress at all.... it's been like that for hours now.... i can't close it even if i hold the power button for minutes so i let the battery die over night..... the same thing happened this morning.... and it became slightly hotter now....
iTunes seems to act stranger... at the capacity bar below where it shows how much space is available on my ipod touch, the OTHERS is just a few back then, it is now the majority of it leaving only 14.9 GB free of storage( where it is 25 before). And when I accidentally pressed sync, it suddenly freezes. I got tired. And I discontinued.
    To summarize:
I updated my ipod touch to iOS 5
Now, I can't use it anymore
the iPod heats up when charged
iTunes provide no help at all
iPod touch's screen freezes to the apple logo and a progress bar with no progress after it is charged
    What should I do now?
    =============================================================
One more thing, before any of these happened, i think i forgot to turn on Wi-Fi before the update. Can this be another factor the problem?

Something similar happened when I upgraded my 4th gen 8 gig iPod touch. It turns on and operates fine but I had the same space issue. The others category  takes up 2.3 gb of space and the empty space is 1.8 instead of the 3.9 I had before. Also, at least half of my songs won't even play. Apple needs to help us out here.

  • Stupid case question...

You folks have scared the crap out of me with all the cracked screen problems.
I have crafted a hard shell case for my white nano made out of a small eyeglasses case with a whole cut out for the headphone jack. I also added some soft foam so it doesn't jostle around.
One question though, can the nano overheat and be damaged this way?

Probably not. My other iPods have been kept in cases without apparent harm - and my oldest iPod will soon by four years old. The only time the iPod heats up is when it is recharging so if you have any concerns about overheating, you can take it out of the case when charging it.

I've tried restarting it and everything, I honestly think this is out raging because i spend over $200 on this. To have for music and instagram. I use it about an hour a day, but i've only been using it for about 3 months although i've had it since December. Any suggestions that may help me?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod

  • HT1212 my ipod screen is cracked and i can't sync my ipod on to itunes becauseit it is locked with a password and i can't enter the password because the heat sensor is messed up and i don't want t restore it and lose everything so how can i get passed tha

My ipod screen is cracked and i can't sync my ipod to itunes because it is locked with a password and i can't enter the password because the heat sensor is messed up on the ipod becasue of the screen and i don't want to restore it and lose everything. What can i do?!

All you can do is to restore and thus erase the iPod unless you can get a data recovery company to preserve the data.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
