Ipod help needed

the songs that i bought wont play but everything else works.

Did you authorize your purchases by playing them on your computer for a few seconds prior to attempting to sync them to your Nano?

  • Major Ipod help needed

All right, one day, a few months ago, my sister lost her nano and found it the next day in a puddle beside her car. When she tried her iPod, it was acting a bit erratic, and barely worked. You could only listen to it on an iHome, but the wheel didn't work, sometimes the screen would lock up, it wouldn't accept a charge from the iHome, her laptop, nor our computer, it wouldn't show up on iTunes, and sometimes it would just flat out not work. Only last night was when she decided to throw it away. Being the pack rat and electronics fiddler I am, I took it, hooked it up, and it worked pretty well on my iHome, the wheel worked, songs played well, but it still wouldn't charge, and the date and times were reset. When I removed the iPod, it would go a bit crazy before it shut itself off, and when I plugged it into a computer the iPod screen says "Please wait...very low battery" but it will stay like that until you unplug it. and now to finally get to what I'm asking, I've tried any logical troubleshooting, but nothing worked, is my only other option to send it into Apple? and if so, how much do you think it would cost to have them repair it?

Seems the iPod Nano does not get charged - battery problem?
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk

  • IPod Help needed from serious Apple gurus - iPod Touch 2g 16g stuck in restart loop. Will NOT enter DFU or recovery mode, NOT recognized by iTunes on Windows or Mac

Ok, so here's the not so sad story. I bought an iPod Touch 2g 16g through Ebay - so forget warranties. Luckily I did not pay much. The description said it was stuck on the apple logo, so I figured it would be an easy put into recovery mode and restore problem.
    Not so much.
If you plug the iPod in and charge up the battery the LCD will come to life after a while with the apple logo, then it displays the spinning wheel with the apple logo over it. That will last anywhere from 10 - 15 minutes, then the iPod will go blank for a few secs and then start up the cycle all over again.
As stated, this iPod will NOT enter either DFU or recovery mode and believe me I've tried it several times several different ways with different timings, connected via USB to a Mac, connected to a different Mac running Windows, and connected to just the charger. Nothing. Occasionally the screen might go blank while holding the power and home buttons but nothing else happens and then it starts it's usual cycle again.
Again, iPod NOT recognized by iTunes on either Mac or Windows side. Since I got off Ebay and seller didn't know much about it, I have no idea if someone tried to jailbreak this or not.
I will not put much money into this machine. So I guess my question is: does this behavior mean that the motherboard is clearly fried? Are there any software programs that might diagnose what the problem is? Could it be as simple as a fried battery?
And most importantly, is this iPod simply toast or is there anything anyone can suggest????
Really any suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated. Seems a shame to just trash an iPod touch that might need a simple fix...
If it helps matters, I can tinker with iPods somewhat and have torn down and replaced several iPod touch 1g and 2g glass and digitizers with no problems. I'm somewhat software savvy but the whole jailbreak thing is new territory... and I can't really figure out the command in Windows or Mac terminals to list all connected devices so I have no idea if the computer even knows the iPod is there, even if iTunes doesn't. Guess that's it... ummm, please help???

Nothing huh? No one's had this problem or this isn't fixable... oh well... if anybody comes up with anything I'll check in occasionally...

  • Itunes/ipod help needed!!

Not sure what the problem is....my ipod has started shutting off by itself when i skip through my songs. I usually have it on shuffle when this happens. Doesnt happen on every song, it can be every 50...100....or 5 songs. It will shut off and then turn back on by itself. I at first thought it was something wrong with the ipod. I then got a brand new ipod and it still does this. Anyone know what the issue could be? Is it itunes maybe? THANKS!!!

    Greetings!
I recently received an iPod nano, and was experiencing problems of the nature listed in this forum. Last night I stumbled across a solution, and in fact, downloaded 234 files to my iPod this morning!
I am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop that runs Windows XP Home.
    Here is the solution as I discovered it;
Concerning Quicktime, I discovered that the laptop was trying to use two installed and runing copies. One for Quicktime, and one for Quicktime for Windows. One is the standalone type, the other is the one that comes with iTunes.
After downloading iTunes w/Quicktime, un-install Quicktime, and go back and get the stand alone copy, and install that. You should only have ONE iTunes and ONE Quicktime running.
    I am not going to describe the second part of the solution, as it may be slightly different for each OS. Here is the link to the instructions for Windows;
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
Follow the instructions to the letter. In my case, the laptop was already running as 'Normal Startup', so when I followed the instructions, everything worked perfectly, with one exception. While trying to figure out how the iPod/iTunes/Quicktime thing, I had the iPod plugged into the laptop. Don't plug the iPod into the computer until you have learned and are familiar with iTunes.
A note for those that aren't aware of it, when iPod is plugged into the computer, and the menu choice in iTunes, 'sync ipod' is clicked, iTunes will transfer whatever files are in the iTunes Library to the iPod automatically.I accidently transferred three REGULAR SIZE music files to the iPod, and they took up the entire memory of the iPod. mp3 or similiar is a must! Hope this helps!

  • Urgent ipod help needed!

earlier today burned some pics onto a cd while ipod was connected to ibook via dock.
ipod started displaying a spinning disk symbol on its screen, and now appears that all music on it has been wiped. when I put it in the dock, spinning disk symbol returns.
All my music is still on itunes on the ibook.
should i restore factory settings? and if so, how do i do it without wiping my itunes library?
the ipod is black and white, no pics, 20 gig and about 2/3 years old.
    help!
    cheers
    dean

There are several things to look at here about iPods not being recognized by a Mac.
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop
iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X
iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes.
Try to restore it in disk mode.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
Incidentally, you may want to try connecting without the dock. My iPod nano refuses to be recognized via the dock but is recognized without it (i.e. connecting direct to the cable).

  • Error when converting videos for ipod--help needed please! : )

it keeps saying "unknown error occured -3000"
*** is that supposed to mean? : )
i think i have the 5th generation ipod. its the larger gig video one that came out last octoberish.
i just did the latest updates so i don't really know what else to do & i hate going to the genius bar at my mac store--its in a mall--blech!
any help would be much appreciated--thanks!
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Where are the videos from? are they from a creditable source or from an illegal downloading site such as limewire. most of those videos are not in the correct video format to begin with so apple itunes will not recognize them and convert them. The best way to convert video is to rip your own dvds or home movies and put them on your computer then ipod. There is at least one way on each operating system (windows and mac) to rip your own dvds and then transfer them to itunes and finally put them on your ipod. A mac is the easiest of the two ways. If you have a mac, then you download a program off of the web called handbrake. Simply "google" >handbrake rip dvds< and its homepage should pop up or try <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://handbrake.m0k.org). Handbrake allows you to copy and convert your dvds to ipod format. On a windows operating system the most effective way I have found to rip my dvds is quicktime pro($25-$35). You can buy it at quicktime's website. It basically does the same thing as handbrake. I, myself, have simply converted some videos, like sports shows and commercials, to ipod format using itunes and both the video and audio worked fine.
If you have any ?'s just reply back
    I hope this helps!

  • Itunes update and automatic update of ipod help needed

i just upgraded to the newest version of itunes (6.4?), and i deleted some songs out of my library and it gave me a message to the effect that next those files would be removed from my ipod next time i connected it.
i know in the previous version of itunes that i had, i had shut off the option that automatically updates your ipod when you plug it in, so i tried to find that option on here and was unable to, i think it might show up after i plug in my ipod, but obviously i dont want to plug in my ipod until i know it isnt going to get erased, anyone know if i can connect my ipod safely of if i need to change something, and if i need to change something where i would find that control. thanks in advance for any help

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
If at any stage iTunes brings up a dialogue window asking whether you want to replace the songs on your iPod with the songs in iTunes, press *No*.

  • MP3 player is not an iPod- help needed

I've got an iTunes gift card and would just like to get a few tunes and use my existing setup. I like Windows Media Player and I have a Sansa mp3 player. I can't play my iTunes music with Windows Media Player and I can't sync my mp3 player with iTunes. Can anyone provide help?

You can't use iTunes purchases on anything other than an iPod or an iTunes compatible phone or convert them to another format because of the DRM (Digital Rights Management) copy protection. However if you burn it to an audio CD you can import it back as MP3. You'll be able to use this version of the track on other devices or software.

  • Ripping DVD's ready for iPod - Help Needed!!

    Hi All
I have been using Handbrake to rip my DVD's and for some reason it has stopped working now..
It goes through the process of encoding the files, all the settings are correct and I have noted the saved directory (even changed it a couple of times), and when it completes 100% there is no file to be found anywhere......
I have posted a note on the handbrake forum but got no reply yet.
Does anybody know what the problem may be?
Also, does anybody know of an application that will rip DVD's so that they are iPod ready, or maybe into MPG/MPEG/AVi format.
    Many thanks
    Garry

How long do you wait? Once conversion has completed, the YourFileName.temp file must be rewritten to your desitination location. This can take some seconds, depending on the size of your movie. While we're at it, is the temporary file even being created when conversion begins?
Also, does anybody know of an application that will rip DVD's so that they are iPod ready, or maybe into MPG/MPEG/AVi format.
Ripping/extraction of DVDs can be done by a number of Mac compatible appliations. MacTheRipper (free) is probably one the most popular at the moment. Stripping and/or conversion, however, still requires an ancillary application like MPEG2 Works 4 Advanced ($$) or MPEG StreamClip (free). However, since your were less than specific as to type (stream file, elementary streams, VCD compatible, SVCD compatible, DVD compatible, etc.) of target file desired, I can only generalize. Conversion basically depends on the workflow you utilize. Both applications have some "intrinsic" capabilities but, for the most part, rely on QT, QT Tools, and/or QT components you have installed and available. In addition, both application allow output to what is basically the QT Pro "Movie to QuickTime" export option. This simply means that in addition to the specific formats you mentioned, you also have full access to all of the same target QT formats you could normally access directly from your QT Pro application. (I.e., you can go directly from a VOB file or file segment to any available QT compatible compression format based on QT Pro and installed QT Pro components.)
REMINDER: These alternative compression formats are not iPod compatible.
ADDED: Forty-TwoDVD-VXPlus ($$) will convert ripped/extracted DVD directly to iPod compatible formats.
