IPod Hifi as Home Cinema Speakers!! Opinion anyone ?

Ok theres no surround sound option but I wanted to do a quick test with a new LCD projector I bought. I hooked it up to a DVD and then the sound went straight from the DVD player to the input socket on the back of the iPod HIFI and to be honest I was listening to it and thinking **** this is really good sound!! now I'm the first to admit that I am obviously not a complete freak when it comes to sound and as long as it sounds okay to me then thats all that matters. I just wanted to hear other peoples views on using the iPod Hifi as a home cinema solution (minus the surround sound part!!!)

Starfrog, I think you've answered your own question already. You tried it, liked it, and profess not to be a sound freak, so stick with it. you could have hundreds of purists tell you it's no good, but at the end of the day, it works for you and that's all that matters.
The sound is great, I love mine and am glad to finally be rid of the tiny, tinny little stopgaps that preceded this unit - but I wont be replacing my home theater speaker setup with the HiFi.

  • Connect ipod to home cinema with usb

first my ipod was windows compatible and at that time i could play music from the ipod on the home cinema.now my ipod is apple compatible because i bought an ibook g4.and this time i can not play music on my home cinema.
    please help me

Again, the iPod does not play audio via USB. It does play audio out of the dock connector.
What receiver do you have? The new Pioneers have an iPod input with a special cable that includes USB but also includes the audio signals on a separate line.

  • IPod Hifi Service Manual?

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the iPod Hifi Service Manual?
Or does anyone have access to one?
I just need to find out how to open it up. This thing is totally impenetratable.
    Apple are laughing at me
I peeled back half of the rubber pad on the base and there are no screws under there.

Unless they were glued at the factory and Apple never actually "serviced" them, they just returned a new model. Or the factory in China would break them open, refurbish them, and reglue them and send them to Apple as a refurb.

  • Ipod hifi. can it be a home studio monitor?

    your thoughts.
I know. There are already reputable monitor speakers out in the market.
But will an ipod hifi fulfill this task? It's advantage is that i can use it with my, yes, ipod. And it can be my multimedia speaker for my PB.
    But for a home studio?

I wouldn't imagine it to be the most accurate set of speakers for monitoring with. For a start there is only one low frequency driver situated in the centre of the speakers so no stereo monitoring capabilities for low frequencies!
Plus all 3 speakers are mounted within the same enclosure, therefore the backwards throw of any cone would result in (probably small but...) a forward throw from one of maybe both other speakers. Kind of like a bass reflex speaker which features one cone and one passive radiator do kind of double up the output. So again not very good for the stereo imagining I wouldn't think.
For £250 you can get a pretty good set of studio monitors, I got a pair of yamaha MSP5's for £190. These are far more accurate than anything tagged "Hi-fi" in a similar price bracket. And they will improve the sound of your work, not only that but they pump it out, and I bet they go a darn site louder than the iPod Hi-fi.
At the end of the day it's hardly difficult to buy a cable to plug your iPod into a set of studio monitors and they will serve you far better AS studio monitors.

  • Ipod Classic 120gb to Samsung LCD TV and Home cinema

Any help or suggestions would help.
I have just bought a New Ipod Classic 120gb and connected it to my Samsung LCD TV and Home cinema systems. The Ipod connects fine but the order of the music on the tv is all mixed up. Is there anyway to sort out the order so it displays in album or even artist order?

Yes, I bought the dock so I could hook it up to my tv. Then I had to buy the cable, I didn't get the cable from Apple. at the time the cable was $50, I went to ebay & found the same cable for about $20. Just like you, I could not find an answer about why the dumb thing wouldn't work, so I just had do my own experiments. Good luck getting Apple to do anything. They don't seem to want to give anything away or replace merchandise.
    Take care!!

  • Connect ipod video to usb port on home cinema receiver?

I am trying to connect my ipod to my samsung home cinema receiver via the usb port. When i do it just hangs, is this not possible?

I think you might be out of luck I'm afraid. The easiest way to connect it would be with a mini-jack to stereo RCA cable.

  • Equium A200-196: Cannot get all speakers to work with Creative T7900 home cinema system

I run windows Vista home premium, on my Toshiba Equium A200-196, and i have a 7.1 Creative T7900 system.
I cannot get all speakers to work. Only the woofer and two front speakers are currently playing sound.
The sound option in the control panel doesn't give me any options besides stereo speakers.
I have no option of selecting 5.1 or 7.1 speakers and i need to know do i need a software driver (all drivers are showing up as up-to-date), or do i have to change some other option, or purchase an external sound card?
I only have two jack inputs, a mic in and headphone out. How can i get all speakers to work and achieve the home cinema experience?

    Hi there,
I dont think that the sound card is capable to do 5.1/7.1 since there are many more jacks required then only one "sound-output".
If I were you I would purchase a external USB-soundcard which is capable to do 5.1 or 7.1 to deliver you the full home-cinema experience.
Another solution is not existent. Sorry mate.

  • Connecting 30GB to Home cinema system

    Hi
I have just bought a Samsung TV and Samsung Home cinema system. On the front of the DVD player, there is a USB port. I have tried connecting my ipod to this, but it doesn't seems to work. Does anyone have any idea how I can connect my ipod so that it plays through the home cinema system.

    Hi
I've successfully managed to do this with my LG Cinema System (Model : LHT760IA - Link via the USB port. However, you can only play none-protected AAC or MP3 encoded files so anything you purchased from iTunes store will not play. I will also admit that the iPod will intermittently disconnect from the DVD player and you have to un-plug and re-plug to re-activate it making continued use a problem so overall not a very good way of using you’re iPod with your system. Consequently I recommend using the iPod Doc and the AV cables plugged in to the AUX Input socket on your DVD/Cinema system for uninterrupted playback as I now do having given up on the USB port. Clearly LG didn’t envisage the use of the USB port for much more than card readers or digital cameras for picture viewing. Incidentally this problem (the random disconnect) also occurs on my XBOX360 if I connect the iPod via the USB socket on that, so may be actually turn out to slightly related to the iPod itself?

The only function I can't get working properly is playing the sound on the amplifier...
The optical cable is plugged into the following port : VCR digital in and when I select the very same menu among the different sources, i ve got no sound going out of the speakers...
    I don'g get it ;o)

  • 2.2.1 has broken dock funtionality on my Panasonic home cinema.

I've have my iPhone for about six months and perform firmware updates whenever they are relasese. I dock it on a daily basis with a Panasonic home theatre system in the den and a Panasonic system I have in the kitchen. since upgrading to 2.2.1 the docking funtionality has stopped working completely on the home cinema - I just get 'reading' on the panasonic display. On the kitchen unit the iPhone will play but I've lost the ability to pause and skip tracks using the remote. Both Panasonic units are iPod/iPhone compatible - or at least they were
Anyone else having similar problems or any suggestions for a fix?
I'll speak to Panasonic on Monday and report back my findings.
    Thanks

Did you try resetting the iPod just to make sure?
It sounds like the Panasonic unit might need a firmware upgrade in order to work with the updated phone. Have you checked Panasonic's website?

I have an iPod touch 4th generation, an Apple TV and a Windows 7 Home Premium PC. I can play songs from my iPod touch to the Apple TV and from the computer to the Apple TV, but how can I play songs from my iPod touch to my computer speakers?

    Step 1 – Open the Terminal.app
Either by start typing Terminal on the Spotlight, or by going into Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.
Step 2 – Open the hosts file
Open the hosts by typing on the Terminal that you have just opened:
    view source
    print?
    1
    $ sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
Type your user password when prompted.
Step 3 – Edit the hosts file
    By deleting
    #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
from your hosts file, save close and then reboot.
    Or in Windows:

  • IPod HiFi - What dock connector do I use for a 80GB (5th Generation) ipod??

    Hi,
Just got a new shinny ipod HiFi, however what dock connector can I use for an 80GB (5thG) as the connectors only go up to 60GB??? Or does the ipod come with a dock connector? Can anyone point me in the right direction, pretty please.
Any suggestions would be great help.
    Cheers
    Sian

You mean the dock adapter, right? The little plastic piece with a slot?
Use the one for the 60GB.
The only thing they do is make the iPods it correctly in the dock.
The dock connector is the slot on the bottom of the iPod.

  • 2010 mac mini Home cinema sound and Home cinema headphones

    Hello
im waiting for my 2010 mac mini to arrive,
ive experience with home cinema setups in the past.
Im looking to use my mac mini as a home cinema set up.
Im fine with the visual side ( projectors and hdtv).
    The audio.
How on earth do i get home cinema sound into headphones.
due to where i live, headphones are the only option i have ( neighbours dont like noise.)
    ive tried :-
    sony mdr-drs7100
    Pioneer SE-DRS3000c
    pioneer dir-8000c.
the three above are ok as they have home cinema audio processing built in and worked with the optical digital output fine.
bass on the above 3 is weak.
i aso will prefer a wired set of headphones ( had enough of wireless)
im now looking at another route.
    1) a decent headphone amplifier capable of playing DTS and Dolby digital 5.1
    2) decent set of headphones to handle the above.
anyone any setups they can share that work
    many thanks

    Hey David,
My issue was resolved by ensuring that I was using a PAL resolution and frequency (720p @ 50 Hz or 1080p @ 50 Hz) for my PAL TV. Anything else causes audio stuttering through my HDMI cable.
Don't ask me why. Try this on your setup by using only the one of your TV's native resolutions and frequencies (Should say NTSC Television on every native TV resolution if you are in the US, PAL Television in Europe). If you do have an NTSC TV, then you might be able to use all of the 60 Hz frequency resolutions without HDMI audio out problems, but I wouldn't count on it.
From what I've researched on the issue, it is only TV's that have this problem, and it is a strange one, as it is actually a  display setting problem with an audio error symptom.

  • New ipod nano doesn't fit new ipod hifi

I just bought a new 4 meg ipod nano and apple ipod hifi from the London Apple Store. The ipod nano doesn't fit in its adapter. Anyone know of this problem? I'm gobsmacked that Apple's quality control let this happen!
    Thanks

    The page
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
    clearly says:
    In the box:
    * iPod nano
    * Earphones
    * USB 2.0 cable
    * Dock adapter
    * Quick Start guide
If the dock adapter is missing, which is what you need, because the iPod Hi-Fi only ships with an adapter for the 1st-gen iPod nano, then you need to contact Apple or your retailer.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
