Hi, i am in really big trouble, as on the 28th i decided i shoul update my ipod software to IOS 5. I plugged it in and downloaded it but unfortunately as it was installing to the ipod, i thought it was taking a while, and decided to try to cancel it, and in the end i unplugged it. Then i started to worry when it got put in dfu mode, now itunes won't even recognise it! Windows recognises it being plugged in and unplugged, i have been trauling through loads of websites to find out how to help it. I have also tried restarting and shutting down my laptop. Please help. (ipod touch 4th generation)

I have an iPod touch that definantly has viruses on it. I want to restore and update. If I were to enter DFU mode would this stop the viruses fro transfering to my computer? Also, after I done this would the viruses be completely wiped off my iPod?

No, don't wipe it. If it definitely has viruses on it then it is probably a valuable historical artifact because it would likely be the first.
What proof-positive do you have that it has a virus?

How did you get your iPod into DFU? I can't get mine into it and I have a 3G. And to get out of it I know you have to press and hold the Home and Power button together till you see it start up.

DFU Mode not recognised in iTunes?

Hi everyone :) Recently I put my iPod into DFU mode, to do a restore. However, when I put it into DFU mode, iTunes did not regocnise it. I'm aware that recovery mode is a similar thing, but I'm worrying about the DFU mode. I'm on an iPod Touch 4th Generation running iOS 6.1.3. I put another iPod running on the same software in DFU mode and its regocnised. Does anyone know why mine is not being recognised? Thanks in advance :)

Nano 2G DFU Mode (Stuck) Cannot do anything

I have a red 2nd Gen nano 4gb .
I unplugged the cable during restore and now its corrupted .
Here is the story:
I had the white blank LCD problem , the ipod would work and play , but no display unless i do a restore which would temp fix the problem .
Anyway .. after trying a hundred restores and resets i decided to corrupt the firmware (by unplugging the cable during restore) in the hope that the ipod firmware can be completely erased and re-written with restore in itunes .
Now i the computer is finding an ipod in dfu mode
Itunes is saying that it cant recognize the ipod
I've tried reseting the ipod but it doesnt help .
I cannot see what is on the display because the lovely blank lcd prob is still there .
Any ideas ?? Its a shame to throw away a 100% scratch free nano .. Please help

Have you tried using it with a program other than itunes, such as Sharepod.exe?
Also, if you have disk mode enabled, open it as a drive, and go to iPod_Control\Device. Look for a file called ExtendedSysInfoXml, and see what it says about the display.
I've unplugged the cable during restore (I've tried everything and anything to get the nano to unlock). It doesn't do a thing for unlocking, but it also didn't kill the display screen either.

i restored my ipod through DFU mode, and lost all the apps, music, and all other content. I restored it through the previously synced version, and still no content. How do i get my apps back?

I had come to the conclusion that I needed to do a restore of my iPod from a backup, since I was having a big problem. Since I was going to restore from the same backup, regardless of which method I chose, would more data from that same backup have been restored if I had chosen the "recovery mode" instead of "DFU"? I'm asking because it seems that once you get past the factory OS re-installation, the steps to restore from a backup seem to be the same, no matter which method you choose. So, would using "recovery" mode restore more data from a backup than "DFU" mode would? Like, would data be pulled from a backup any differently if I had chosen "recovery"? Help!! Ipod couldn't update, so tried to DFU mode and it still wont update or even turn on!!

Help! My Ipod touch won't update! When I try to update it gives me a "network timed out" error message. I have tried everything. Disabling my antivirus, turning off my firewall, changing the time sync. So I tried to restore it in DFU mode, but it still is givng me a "network timed out" message. Now my ipod is blank and won't restore or update. What can I do? Have gone both to the apple store and geek sqaud for help and both blame it on each other. Any ideas?

Disabling the computer's security software (firewall and antivirus) usually resolves that error.

my son has disabled his ipod touch and has forgotton the pass code, i have followed all the websites and got it into dfu mode but when itunes is restoring it back to its factory settings it is telling me that there are about 35 hours to go and then an error message comes up saying a problem with uploading and that my network isnt working (which is wrong) and to try again......donr this about 10 times now and everytime get the same error message......any help would be much appreciated

Ask him if he has 'jailbroken' the ipod touch. Some jailbreaking firmware resets it to Ipad firmware and so it is very difficult to restore as itunes simply doesnt recognise it for what it is. It's Apple's solution to try and stop mass jailbreaking.
