Ipod in washer....

After my 4g ipod went through the washing machine I did not plug it in or charge it I opened her up and let her dry (waranty over by 1 year) I left it open for about 2 days, put it back together and it worked. It now functions perfect other than when I plug it in to my computer. It usually crashes itunes and or freezes the ipod. After reinstalling drivers I can now load songs on it. ALthough it makes grinding noises as it writes....
What Ik would like to know is there anything that I could do fix it? If I reformat it will I be able to get my music and data back on?
Thanks

in time, your ipod will die permenantly. i know, its not a good thing to hear but yes, its surprising that you got it to work at all after it being through the washer. it was very smart to let the water dry out. i know people who panic and turn it on immidiatly to see if it still works. they wonder why it turns on, then off and never back on. but, sadly the water got into your hard drive. there is nothing you can do about it. dont try to open your hard drive though because they are made and assembled in dust free rooms. and i dont care how often you vaccuum, there is still dust in the air. where these things are assembled, the air is actually sucked out of the room so it is literally dust free. opening your hard drive will just make it worse, and may actually never work again if you do so. i have been repairing ipods for a year now, so if i were you, take my word for it.

    Hello wubs1971,
More than likely, but it wouldn't hurt to at least try and revive it using the instructions in this article.

  • IPod got washed... Weird sound from area of lock button.

Ok, so a few days ago, I accidentally washed my IPod 4th gen in the washing machine. *facepalm...* I only got it out after a 45 minute wash. Blindly hoping it still worked, I attempted to turn it on. (Hold power button, press home...) Screen stayed black. Then I went to look on the forums. A lot of people suggested to put it in a rice bag for a week. Problem is, I don't have a week. I'm leaving for a 2-week vacation in 2 days... =/ Soooo, I took the screen/ glass off. I found some droplets water in there, which I wiped up using a Kleenex. Then, I put it in a rice bowl for the night. Next morning, I put the bowl into the hot California sun for 3-4 hours. Finally, I decided to test it. *Gulp!* I plugged it in to a wall charger, and after ~30 seconds, I noticed a sound like bacon frying(mmmmmm =D) quietly coming from the location of the power/lock button. When I felt the area, however, It didn't seem like there was heat emitting from it. then, I unplugged it and wrote this post. What should I do now?

  • Well ever since my ipod got washed, the headphone thing hasn't been working

Ever since I washed my ipod the  place where you plug your headphones in hasnt been working. Please help!

    water damage = :-(
authorized service would be your best bet to have the thing checked out.
The headphone sockets are cheap to replace, but it could be also the main board, which would be a bummer.
The are plenty of services who do mail-in orders.
I myself use DigiExpress, but there are dozens of others, many even better.

  • IPod Nano + Washing Machine = Death?

I went to my Grandmothers house for the weekend. I took a shower, but I forgot to take the iPod Nano I recieved not even 1 month prior to todays disaster. My Grandmother picked up my pants and threw them into the washer(No Dryer). After a long wash, she popped open the door and my headphones followed. She dug though the clothing in panic and found my iPod Nano soaking and not responding to any buttons pressed. Is my little music playing companion dead, or is there still hope left?

Do not attempt to charge or operate a wet iPod!! Doing so can permanently damage your iPod. Electricity and water do not play nice together!
Set the iPod aside and allow it to dry for several days (a week). Make sure that the iPod is completely dry before you attempt to turn it on. If it works then, and charges properly, consider yourself to be exceptionally lucky. If it doesn't, and does not appear to take a charge, then your iPod has been damaged. You may be able to get it repared by a third party service such as iPodResQ

  • IPod Got Washed-Reset-Power Goes Off When Not Plugged/Charging

    Hi -
My husband accidentally washed my iPod. He connected to iTunes, downloaded the restore software, and I was able to reset my iPod settings. But now when I disconnect and unplug the iPod, the screen goes dark and won't turn back on. Then after plugging it back in, the Apple logo appears and it syncs normally/charges.
Is there anything I can do to fix this situation?

How many days did he let it dry before he connected it to the computer? Needed to be at least 4 - 5.
If it was immediate it probably killed the battery. You'll need to get it replaced or replace it yourself.

  • Ipod nano got washed now battery won't work

My ipod got washed about awhile ago and I let it dry out for a few days and then connected it to my system with no visible problems. Except when I disconnected it the battery was very low and only lasted for a few minutes. Now I can't get any battery life at all eventhough the ipod works perfect when connected to the computer. Anybody have any ideas?

Well I'd leave it charging for a few hours and if it
still doesn't work then I hate to say this but it
will just be a very expensive paper weight. You'll
have to get another one if you want a new one if
charging it for a few hours doesn't work.
Before buying a new one, Google: ipod+repair
    many choices for repair...
also, online Apple Store has refurb 2G 2GB nanos for $109.

  • I washed my daughter's iPod by mistake

Our iPod got washed by mistake. It still works, but the light doesn't, so you can't see what you're doing. Is there somewhere I can send this to get it fixed?

What you have to do is connect the device to YOUR computer, log in to YOUR iTunes account, and then restore the device to factory settings, and set it up as a NEW DEVICE.  At this point you can change the device name.  DO NOT RESTORE FROM A PRIVEOUS BACKUP!!!!!
As part of the reset, iTunes will automatically install the latest version of iOS for your device.
When the reset is finished you can sync your music and other data to the device.

  • IPod nano (generation 4) got washed...

My iPod nano (generation 4) got washed in the washing machine. Is there any way I can "fix" it or at least make it better so I don't have to buy a new one? And if there isn't a way, does the warranty still work if the iPod was washed?
    Thanks in advance.

Well from personal experience after accidentally swimming in my pool with my ipod in my pocket I have to say apple has made a resilient peice of technology. After realizing the Ipod was in my pocket I shook all the water from it that I could and used a hair dryer on medium to dry it further. Finally I placed it in a window seal and left it there for 24 hours. When I came back to it I connected it to my computer and after a few seconds to my suprise the apple screen came up and it worked just as good as the day I got it. Dunno if you'll have the same luck but I think the key is to try to get it as dry as possible before trying to get it working.

wifi not working after ipod got washed can it be fixed
I'm surprised the device is working at all if it got wet. I'm guessing that the water has destroyed the Wi-Fi chip. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar at Apple to have the device examined to see what the problem is.

  • Ipod mini under water

my ipod was washed in the washing machine.is there any hope or should i scrap it and get another?

My wife has just washed my grandsons iPod mini on a hot wash, 60 degrees and 1100 rev spin speed, it works perfectly, just let it dry for a few days, nice and clean now.

  • Conecting to iTunes Music Store

I am unable to purchase music from the iTunes Music Store. I am able to preview the music but when I attempt to purchase a song, I am prompted to log in. When I put in my user name and password, it appears to be logging in then gives the following error message: "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. An unknown error occurred (-9812). Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
I have sought the support of my ISP (verizon) and they assure me that the connection is active and I have been able to access other websites. I have also contacted the manufacturer of my router (Linksys) thinking that perhaps I needed to open a port as per the suggestion on your online help files; that did not work either. I have also tried as suggested on another post to power down my PC, router and modem, wait 30 second then reconnect/restart the modem, router and then PC but that did not work either.
Someone please help!!! I am at my wits end. I received an iPod for xmas and have not been able to download a song yet. At this point I am very tempted to return the iPod and wash my hands of everything Apple/Mac.

    Does this help?

  • I have an old ipod that got put through the washer. I want to restore it but i already have a new ipod. How can i restore my old ipod without losing all of my new itunes songs?

I accidently put my old 2nd generation Ipod nano through the washer a few years ago. Well after that it would no longer work do to water damage. After a while i got a new Ipod (the same type) and was able to get new songs to put on it and what not. Well i was playing around with the one i washed opne day and found that i could still restore it on iTunes. However, it wont let me restore it without losing all of my music and what not that i got for the new one. I would like to continue to use the old one, but I am afraid of losing all of my current stuff. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can restore the old and keep the new? I am in desperate need.

    Well, two thoughts.
The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.
