IPod/iPhoto syncing problem HELP!!

I am writing this in desperation. I tried to sync my 30GB iPhoto library onto my iPod video. iTunes started filling up my hard drive. I had 8GB of free space on my hard drive, and now I have nothing. However 25GB of my iPhoto stuff made it to the iPod. I am wondering - does syncing iPhoto with iPod make iTunes double up the iPhoto? Does it place the entire library in the iTunes folder?
If I freed up more space, and the syncing completed, would the hard drive get back to its original state?` Is iTunes just occupying the space for syncing reasons?
Please help!! Thanks so much!!!

I am also having this problem with an 80G iPod. Anyone out there with a suggestion?

  • Need help with ipod itunes syncing problem just occured

i restored my computer to factory settings and when i did that i lost my itunes and when i reinstalled it and tried to sync my ipod to the new installation of itunes it said that my ipod is synced with another itunes and that to sync it wiht this itunes it would delete and replace all data on my ipod with data from my itunes which is nuthing please help i dont wanna lose all my songs and apps an all that

You should have created a backup of your Itunes library before your computer restore to factory setting so that you can copy them to your new iTunes.
Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software to copy over. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • IPhoto syncing problems iPad

    Hi
I am having trouble syncing my iPad with my iPhoto library. When I try and sync through iTunes only selected photos seem to be synced, i.e. if I choose to sync a specific event not all the photos from the event are synced. For example, a recent event has 44 photos in it and when I sync only about 12 appear on the iPad. If I choose to sync more events the same thing happens. Some events most photos seem to be there and in others some are missing. All the photos are jpgs so my understanding is there should be no problem. Interestingly, if I take the photos and put them in a folder and sync the folder only - not through iPhoto on sync - all the photos come over (obviously not grouped in events). This to me suggests it is something to do with iPhoto indexing. I created the iPhoto databases and thumbnails index but this did not help. I have read that deleting the 'iPod Photo Cache" can help with this, so deleted that - but still no joy. I have read somewhere that the index file in iPhoto has limit (256mb or something) - i have 10,000 photos in my library so maybe this is the problem. I am not trying to sync all the photos just some events so space on the iPad (32GB) cannot be a problem. Please help? Bernie

Just checking to make sure that you did follow this procedure .... I copied this from one of my other posts and I'm merely double checking that you did restart the iPad after you tried this ....
Follow the instructions here to delete the iPod Photo cache and see if that helps.
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    Now try syncing.
I have seen posters with more photos than you are trying to sync have success with this procedure so I don't think that the number of photos is the problem. You stated that creating a new folder and syncing the photos works that way so that proves to me that it isn't the number of photos that is causing the issue.
The only other suggestions I can think of are to create new names for the events using the same photos and try syncing that way. The other suggestion would be to delete your backup and try to the sync the photos.

  • IPod Classic Sync Problem - iTunes 11

I was having issues with syncing my iPod today. Multiple problems led to me having to uninstall iTunes on my PC and I also had to restore the iPod a couple of times. Once all was said and done, I could not sync my music to the iPod. It usually automatically synced when plugged in, but since the restore and reinstall, nothing happened. Even clicking sync with my iPod pllugged in didn't work.
SOLUTION (with the help of Apple tech support):
    1) Connect iPod to computer (make sure iTunes is running).
    2) Click on iPod name (mine is called Owner's iPod).
    3) At the top of the screen, next to "Summary", click on "Music".
    4) To the left of "Sync Music" there is a little box. There should be a check in it. If not, put a check there.
    5) The number of songs ready to be synced should appear.
    6) In the lower right hand corner, click on "Apply".
I saw in another forum information that I needed to find the box to select to sync songs, but the information was a few years old and I couldn't find it according to the directions. This should work for those with ver. 11.
If anyone else has sync problems and you HAVE A SOLUTION please share it here. Thanks!

    Hi black3793,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know it can be both frustrating and concerning when iTunes becomes unresponsive when you connect your iPod. In your situation I would start by isolating iTunes by uninstalling it and all of its components in the correct order and installing fresh. Please follow the steps in the attached article for removing iTunes and its components.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Aperture 3.1.3 and iPhoto sync problems

Upgraded to Aperture 3.1.3. Then upgraded to Lion. Tried to sync my iPhone and it got as far as photo's and got a -50 Sync error. Went to iTunes and turned off photo sync and the phone syn'd perfectly. Went back to iTunes turned photo sync back on, and got an error again. Went to iTunes turned off sync and checked the option to remove my photo's from the phone. Sync worked fine. Turned the photo sync back on, and it errored out when it was trying to reload the pictures. Turned off the Aperture photo sync and changed it to iPhoto. The next sync it reloaded my 1,500 photos without a hitch.
Bottom line: I explained all I have gone through so you can understand that it is not a corrupt photo library on the phone, and iPhoto sync'd fine, so it certainly appears that Aperture is once again the problem.

I am getting the same "Unknown error (-50)" when trying to sync photos from my Aperture 3 library now.
I did not upgrade to Lion (waiting for a 3rd party driver I need to be updated first for it), but I did update iTunes to 10.4 (80) recently and that is when I noticed the issue.
I haven't had this issue before. It syncs everything else but when iTunes goes from "Analyzing Photos" to "Optimizing Photos" in the sync process it reports that it is unable to sync because of an "unknown error (-50)"
To resolve the problem, I tried the following:
I repaired my Aperture library database (using Option+Command when launching Aperture 3).
Deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder inside my Aperture library. It had to resync all my photos again, this time it worked, but the next sync it had the same error again.
Updated my iOS to the latest version.
Did a Repair Disk Permissions on my Mac.
I changed USB cables and ports (using only ports directly on my Mac Pro).
Tried syncing with only iTunes running.
Doing all the above made no difference, I am still getting the error message and it won't sync new photos back to my iPhone 4 now.

  • IPod Classic sync problems

I'm using an iPod Classic. It's 160GB and it's the newest (ish) generation of it. I haven't had any problems syncing it in the past until recently after the latest iTunes update.
My computer recognises my iPod when it's connected and so does iTunes. I've run diagnostics on iPod connectivity, it passes iPod connectivity, but not the device sync test, even though iTunes clearly recognises the iPod is syncing. Beforehand, I had reset my iPod thinking the sync issue was something with my iPod'a hard drive but i had done a check using diagnostic mode and my retracts and reallocs were both at 0 which I assume is very good for an iPod I've had for 3 or 4 years.
The battery is fine and the hard drive seems to be fine. I've even tried both USB ports on my laptop (Toshiba with Windows 7 Home Edition).
I even went and uninstalled iTunes itself (but none of the add-ons) and I'm still having issues.
At the moment it's showing I have 7GB of music when there's only 234 songs on it.
I've also done a reset several times by holding down the menu and center button but it's still not syncing my music properly, still saying I've got 7GB of music when there clearly isn't
if it helps my iPod Classic is using the latest version, 2.0.4  and my computer's software is up to date as well.
I'm also going to try to format the hard drive on it to see if that does something but I doubt it'll help.
if anyone has any advice on how to fix this that'd be great

    Hhhmmm!
Not actually sure what your question is.
That said, it appears to centre on the fact that you have 234 songs taking up 7GB of storage. Is that correct? If so, there are two possibilities.
How do you arrive at the figure of 7GB? Is it only the music, or is it all of the storage being used on the iPod? With the iPod connected to your iTunes Library, check to see how much storage is being used by each type of media. In particular, how much "Other" is being used? Hold your mouse over each section so that the info balloon appears and read off how much storage is being used by each type. The crucial section is the Other (as indicated in the screenshot below).
Perhaps most, if not all of your music is encoded at a very high Bit Rate. What format are you using to import from your CDs? Check several songs and make a note of the Kind, Size and Bit Rate. Then post back with that information.

  • ICal on Mac desktop to iPod Touch syncing problem

I have events on my iPod Touch that will not sync to my Mac OS 10.6.8 desktop.
What I've done that may have caused this:
I got a new MacBook for Christmas and so I tried syncing all 3 with iCloud, but that caused duplicate events
I tried only using MacBook & iPod Touch for sycing with iCloud and then directly syncing from my iPod with USB to my desktop, but it stopped syncing (later I found that my cord needed to be replaced, but I'm not sure if that was the problem - I was still dealing with some duplicate events, too)
I decided to stop using iCloud (I can do without using my iCal on my MacBook if there's no ideal solution to sync all 3 without duplications or other problems) and now my iPod Touch syncs well with my desktop for most items, but not all
I think my desktop thinks the events that are syncing have already been synced because they were in the past. The one that was important that I missed today, which is on my desktop (a repeating event) but is no longer on my iPod Touch, refuses to sync to my desktop. There may be more that I haven't noticed.
I thought maybe I could wipe my iPod Touch calendar and then sync my desktop to my iPod Touch, but I'm afraid that it might wipe my desktop as I don't know how to tell it to only go one way in syncing rather than acting as if it's a new program.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Be sure you've set your iPod to the correct time zone (ie, same as your computer). If you're on the East Coast it's three hours ahead of Apple HQ's time zone. A 5:00pm appointment in New York is at 2:00pm to someone using a Californian clock. Make sure your Touch isn't a Californian clock.

  • Intermittent iPhoto sync problem

I've had an iPhone 4 for the past 4 months. Recently (around when I upgraded to iLife 2011), iPhoto sometimes does not "see" my iPhone. I'll plug it in, iTunes will open and start to sync, but iPhoto just sits there and the iPhone doesn't pop up in the side bar.
I've found that if I open up Image Capture and let it "scan" the iPhone for photos, iPhoto will recognize the iPhone when Image Capture finishes scanning. This takes about 5 minutes though, and is obviously just a nasty workaround.
Has anybody else experienced intermittent problems with iPhoto sync?
On topic feature request: I find that when iPhoto DOES recognize the device, the sync process is far from automated. It keeps asking me weather or not I want to import photos that have already been imported (why would I ever want to do that!?), and it then asks me if I want to delete photos from the iPhone as it imports. I think the default behavior should be like iTunes music sync. It just "updates" iPhoto with new photos, and leaves everything else alone. It would be nice to see this sync process built into iTunes so I don't have to worry about two applications syncing properly when I plug in my phone.

  • Ipod dock sync problems into G5 / works with Cinema Display

after buying a new printer i had to reshuffle my usb and firewire arrangements, so i moved the ipod photo dock to the usb port on the back of my G5...before it was going into the back of my apple cinema display's usb port.
now, i get the (-36) message whenever i try and transfer songs with the ipod in the dock when connected into the back of the G5. if i bypass the dock and use the usb cable directly into the ipod it works fine, and everything (dock included) still works fine if it's plugged into one of the apple cinema display usb inputs. i just can't use the dock anymore if it's plugged directly into the G5. i do have Isight hooked up to firewire and some of the other ports used, but Isight didn't interfere with anything before this.
anyone have any clue what's going on?

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get my iPod to sync. Tried everything that normally cures all problems and quite a few new things. No joy.
Anyway, every so often, due to having to disconnect without ejecting or force quitting applications, my iPod becomes unrecognisable.
What works for me is to boot the computer using my Installation Disk. As soon as you're past the welcome page you will have access to Disk Utility. It always seems to be able to see and repair the iPod. I then cancel the "Installation" and reboot from the System on my Hard Disk.

  • TV Sync Problem Help Please

Ok So I downloaded a TV Show yesterday and after I downloaded it and it synced and worked fine. Then today I plugged it in and it just automatically took the video off. I have sync only checked songs and videos selected and I have 3 videos in my TV Shows list. My iPod contains one video on it, but I have the video thats on it, and the one I just recently downloaded both checked and another one not checked that is not on there. I have checked the other one and synced it and it went on there fine but for some reason I cant get the most recent video I got to sync on to my iPod, what's the problem its veeeeery frustrating. Thanks in advance. Also I just went through and removed, and re added the other tv shows I have by clicking the check mark and hitting sync, but for some reason my newest tv show will still not work.
    Message was edited by: goreemanger

You may have set your iPod to sync only unwatched episodes.
Connect your iPod, then when the summary screen appears click on the TV shows tab.
Change the preference to what suits you best.

  • New Ipod Classic syncing problems, restoring problems

    Hello,
Just got my 80gb Ipod Classic yesterday, and have had syncing problems, and now Itunes does not recognize it at all.
I'm using the latest version of Itunes (7.6.2.9)
Ipod Firmware 1.1.2 (or whatever the newest is)
    Windows XP Pro
I'm a long-time user of a 5g 30gb Ipod and never have had issues like this. I am syncing to the same Itunes library as my old Ipod. Connecting my new Ipod Classic, I updated the firmware, and tried to sync. Halfway through the sync, I got an error. I disconnected the ipod and reset it. I tried syncing again, and again it would hang at some point, had to disconnect, and then it said my ipod had no music, but with 60gb free only. So obviously a database problem on the ipod and some mp3 files that my new ipod classic didn't like (though my old 5g ipod has no problem with this library).
Next, I connected and did a Restore.
I removed the culprit mp3 files from Itunes Library, attempted to sync again. Again, it would freeze at some point during sync. Had to disconnect Ipod while Itunes was frozen. Again, Ipod says has no music but with only about 60gb free.
So Ipod is corrupted again. The problem is when I connect it to my PC, Itunes no longer recognizes it, so I can't do a Restore. What do I do?

Just wanted to post my results, for future users benefit:
Putting my Ipod into Disk Mode, connected to computer, Itunes recognized it, performed a Restore.
    Still had syncing/freezing issues.
Decided that my Itunes library database was corrupted. Went into My Documents > My Music, and deleted the Itunes Folder, except for the containing Artwork Folder.
Have been rebuilding my Library from scratch since, and have had no syncing problems yet again.
Only problem is that in the outermost Podcast menu, it is always empty. The only conveninent way to access my Podcasts is to make a playlist and put them all in it.

  • Can anyone help me with iPod/iTunes syncing problems after recent software update?

    Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help me.  Last week I updated my iPod to the latest software (8.2).  Today I deleted some albums from iTunes and added a few others.  I also made some changes to a few of my playlists.  I then synched iTunes and my iPod.  However the synching has not worked.
When I connect my iPod, it shows up in iTunes pretty instantly.  When I click on sync, I can see in iTunes that it is syncing and also on my iPod, but the changes do not appear on my iPod afterwards.  Also, after the first syncing attempt, I lost two-thirds of my album cover art.  So, I lost covert art, but no other changes were made.  The albums I deleted from iTunes are still on my iPod and the ones I added to iTunes are not on my iPod.
I have looked at the music on my iPod while connected to iTunes.   I can see the songs/albums I have added are there, but they appear in grey and have a doted circle (to the left) next to them.  This shows that they have not synched (I guess).
I have already restarted my McBook Pro and iPod a few times.  I synched my iPod with iTunes after every restart, but it has not made any difference.  I also deleted the music I added to iTunes and added it again.  I synched iTunes and my iPod after this, but it has made no difference.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Many thanks
    Summary:
    Updated iPod to iOS 8.2.
Made changes in iTunes i.e. delete and added music
iTunes and iPod show they are synching, but changes to not appear on iPod.
Also lost cover art on iPod after synching.
    Products:
    iPod Touch, latest generation
    iTunes 12.1.0.50
MackBok Pro OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Thank you for your reply.  I followed your suggestion and restored my iPod to its factory settings.  I then restored it from a backup file.  All the problems have been resolved.  Quite incredible that I had to go through that process to fix it.  I hope Apple will find a solution to the iTunes problem soon.
