"Ipod is  corrupt" error?

I have the newest version of the ipod classic, which I bought almost two years ago.  Recently, it has been giving me an error when I plug it into my iTunes to sync.  It says something along the lines of "the ipod detected by iTunes is corrupt.  Please try to eject and reconnect the ipod or restore the ipod".  When I reconnect, the same error appears.  When I try to restore, it stops half way through the process and says "iPod cannot restore because the ipod is busy".  Sometimes if I try this enough times (like over 10 or fifteen times) it will all of a sudden restore and sync as if there wasn't a problem.  Other times, it won't work until I wait a day or two, maybe even a week.
Why am I receiving this error, and does this indicate a hard drive problem?
By the way, I have the latest update of itunes and i'm using a macbook pro to sync my ipod to my itunes.

Yes we must thank tt2 for his excellent contribution.
if you can do a Hard Reset to get the Apple Logo, can you get to the SRV Diag Boot menu, by pressing the rewind |<< button.
Then press Menu for Manual Test (Dont go Auto Test)
Slide the wheel till the cursor go to IO
Slide till you select Harddrive
Then select HDSmartdata
This will give you the report on your Hardisk health.
Have a nice day!

  • When I try to restore my iPod i get the iPod is corrupt error...

Ok, i've read through the answers that have been given for the error that comes up when people try to restore their iPod and get this:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
so i get that message when i plug in my iPod still...even after having gone to the Apple Store to try and get it fixed. They fixed the actual iPod but still no success with the computer. And every time I plug in the iPod i get the message about it being corrupt and needing restore.
But whenever i click "Restore" i get a message saying: "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found."
someone PLEASE help! I'm getting frustrated beyond belief here, i've tried the chkdsk stuff, and the bit about removing the iPod update software folder, if that's the same solution set, then i forgot what the other part was, but i've tried both of the suggested and nothing's working.
    please someone help.

I got this under XP before. I was totally baffled until I realized there was a network drive mapped to the same place XP was trying to mount my iPod. The common symptom is that you'll get this sort of "corrupt" error on one machine but it works ok on a friend's machine. If that's true for you, you can change the network drive mapping to another drive letter (easiest) or mount your iPod and change its drive letter in the disk management control panel (under admin tools).
Hope that helps... this one just about had me pulling my hair out until I recognized the problem.

When I hook my ipod up to my mac I used to get the Itunes has detected an ipod that appears to be corrupted error message. It would then sync all my song to the ipod but when I ejected it, none of the songs would be on the ipod. Now I hook it up and I get the Mac OS X can't repair the disk error message. Then the spinning colored pinwheel pops up and I can't use iTunes. Please HELP!!!!!!

Sounds like your iPod is broken. Take it to Apple or someone else who repairs iPods and see if you can get it fixed, or get it replaced.

  • No matter what I do I cannot restore ipod classic. Ipod is corrupt with unknown error 1439.cannot restore the ipod Have tried all options but . can anyone help?

I recently bought a second-hand ipod classic.  When connecting to itunes the message reads that the ipod is corrupt and needs to be restored to factory settings.  However, this does not solve the issue and I get the message saying unable to restore, unknown error 1439.  No matter what i have tried through apple support i get the same result.  My computer runs Windows XP but I have also tried on my laptop which operates Vista and still no joy.  Anyone able to solve this one?

Normally unknown error is due to timeout, cause by
connected to slow USB port at the front of the PC, or using USB Hubs - Better connect to the USB HUb at the back of the PC. (Some Laptop, has only one High Power -USB2.0 port
USB resource low, due to sharing of other USB devices - Disconnect all other USB devices when Restoring.
Winsocks conflict with iTunes - Disconnect Internet and Stop firewall and Antivirus, emails apps.
Your hardisk is dying, read this earlier post by tt2.

This wont solve your problem. but is very helpful in troubleshooting.
It would also help, if you can state
Which version of iTunes are your running?
What is your iPod software version as shown in the iTunes summary page?

  • HT1339 my ipod shuffle(1st generation) is corrupted (error 1442) it will not restore.             is it possible to correct this or is it beyond repair. It worked the last time I used it on my laptop with Windows Vista. Vista.

My ipod shuffle (1st generation) will not restore. It says it is corrupted(error 1442) Is it possible to correct this problem, or is it beyond repair. It worked last  time I used it on my laptop with Windows Vista. Any help would be much appreciated.

Im actually tilting it up where it cinnects to my iPod, not where it connects to my computer, and i have tried three(yes, 3) different cables, one of which i bought brand new. still nothing, and i've also tried different USB ports on my computer,....nothing. Could this simply be a hardware failure of somekind? maybe a physical problem...i mean, why would i have to tilt the cable in order for my computer to actually read my iPod? im looking at the USB connector on my iPod (maybe it's my imagination, not sure) it possible might be bent, the little metal part in the port.

  • IPod corrupted, error 1418 , what does it mean?

Ipod froze and than message appeared to synchronize with computer. After initial dramas with upgrading iTunes (lost my library in the process through uninstalling and reinstalling) the message appeared that the ipod was corrupted; suggested restoration to factory state, but could not do it due to error 1418. What does it mean?

  • Ipod corrupted, error 1429

I have a 20Gb ipod classic and a ibookg4 and woke up this morning to the dreaded folder ! sign and the support web address flashing on my screen.
I followed the directions on support, doing the 5 r's- and when trying to restore my ipod to the factory settings, got the message that my ipod could not be restored (error 1429). I trashed and then downloaded itunes again, restarting my computer, and was then able to restore my ipod-
the problem is, as soon as it says "Your Ipod has been restored", it flashed right back to "Your ipod is corrupted" and I had to do the whole process over again.
Nothing has helped. I have deleted and downloaded itunes, I've tried eveything I can think of and my ipod sounds ill... it keeps booting up and then quitting, booting up, then quitting...
so my question is- anything I haven;t thought of? And, if the only left is sending it away to get it fixed, does anyone know how much I'm looking at? It may just be easier to buy new...
    thanks much!

Strang thing is you would expect it has to do with the hardrive, but I have the exact same thing with my Ipod shuffle it won't synchronize on my PC as it needs to be restored but then get the known message code 1429. However if I connect to my laptop I'm able to restore the Ipod and can upload music from Itunes. Both my PC and Laptop have the same version of Itunes.
If I then connect again my Ipod to the PC i get the same error, so somehow it doesn't work on my PC.
    Does anyone have a solution

  • IPod corrupt error message when I connect my iPod to my new laptop. Old laptop broken so the only place I have my iTunes library stored is on my iPod. Is there a way I can retrieve this music or repair my iPod without resetting it?

Help would be appreciated I don't want to lose all of my music.

Note that none of the above options may work if the iPod is corrupt.

  • IPod classic corrupted and won't restore on Windows

So I have an 80Gb iPod classic. While I was transferring some files something went wrong with the USB connection and iTunes immediately froze and so did my iPod. So I reconnected my iPod and now it won't let me transfer any files because it keeps getting stuck. Then I tried to restore and got an error that I was unable to restore. I disconnected my iPod and it seems like it restored because the next thing I knew everything has been wiped out. But when I connected it to my PC a message appears that the iPod is corrupted and a windows prompt appears telling me to format the disk. So here's what I've done.
    -formatted the iPod in FAT32
-connected the iPod, no 'iPod corrupted' message appears.
-tried to restore, but received the same error message, won't restore
-when iPod disconnected it went through the same cycle (iPod restoring-then iPod corrupted-iPod needs to be formatted)
-went to Apple service center, they restored it using a mac and everything went smoothly, song were able to be transferred without a glitch.
-however will not work on PC needs to be restored again
can someone help to shed some light? is there something wrong with the hard disk? If yes, then why can it be restored through mac but not windows?
what can i do to solve this problem?
    thanx

I was sort of relieved to read that I am not the only one with freezing issues.
I have been to the apple store twice only to be told there is nothing wrong and of course my warranty has expired !! I have the Model A1136 EMC No. 2065 80gig classic ipod. My dell computer is only 2 weeks old and works fantastic, however, when I open itunes and my ipod and it freezes, so does my pc and I have to do a task manager to get out of itunes and there are times when I can't and have to reboot my pc.
Well it has been two weeks now of me trying all that I can to fix the issue and only thing I can see so far that it freezes up when its in the analyzing the gapless sound upon adding music from my folders, etc etc. So I tried to "uncheck" everything that had to do with the sound and it worked. Oh and by the way, try setting your ipod on disk mode when you are trying to restore the ipod. It works better that way. Don't know what is going on but I am so angry with myself for being so attached to this ipod There is nothing out there that compares to my ipod and it's amazing the prices of mp3 that even come close to 80 gigs.
Good luck to all and if I find anything else to share, I certainly will Don't hesitate to email me if someone finds out or has a patch or something to get this thing going properly again bye for now ,,,,,,,,

  • Why is iTunes saying my iPod is corrupted and how do I fix it?

I got a new computer for work, downloaded iTunes and connected my iPod classic (20GB). I added a few songs to my library before I connected the iPod. Once connected, my iPod appeared but after trying to transfer music an error occured. iTunes stated my iPod was corrupted and it asked if I wanted to reset it, which would wipe my iPod clean.
I checked my Ipod's functionality and it was working fine. I tried connecting it to a couple other computers I use and it still worked fine. In the meantime, I uninstalled all of the iTunes programs and reinstalled everything. I connected the iPod again and the same problem occured.
I do not think I transferred any corrupted songs onto my iPod; it has been working fine. I really do not want to erase my iPod and start from scratch unless that is the only solution. I am just not sure why my iPod is not working with this specific computer...it is brand new! When I connect the iPod now, it appears sometimes but it always ends the same. The computer also asks if I want to scan the E drive (the drive the iPod is connected to).
    Thoughts?

+The computer also asks if I want to scan the E drive (the drive the iPod is connected to).+
That it almost surely due to some security software/antivirus stuff that was installed by corporate.
Ask your IT folks about getting itunes running on this PC and make sure it's allowed by your company.

  • ITunes says my iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored..

Ok, when I started up my computer today and opened iTunes to listen to my songs, it gives me an error message that my iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored before I can use it again. I've tried using different programs to back up my songs on my iPod to my computer but it's not working because my computer is also saying that disk J: (the usb port my iPod uses) needs to be reformatted, so I can't do anything with it out of iTunes..
What it's looking like is that I'm going to lose ALL the songs on my iPod (around $600 worth) and I'm not going to get anything back..
So what do I do to fix this problem without losing all of the songs I've bought?

    Hello CoulntThinkOfAUser,
If you purchased the songs from the itunes store you wouldn't really loose anything. This is how to recover all of your previous purchases.
    How to download past purchases.
    Hope this helps.

  • Even after restore, it says iPod is corrupted

First, I tried to listen to my iPod today and all of the songs were just gone. I listened to it last night and it was fine, I didn't even update it, but this morning all of the songs are gone. So, I tried to sync it but it says my iPod is corrupted and I need to restore. After going through the whole process restoring, I see the progress bar on the iPod and it completes. The computer says it'll show up in the sources list in a second, and it acts like it's fine. However, after a few minutes when it does connect, I still get the error message I originally get when I plugged the iPod in, saying the iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored. I've had this iPod since it first came out and I don't know how I could live without it, especially since I'm going on a long trip tomorrow...bad timing. Is my iPod dead?

Does it play any of the songs you have in it? Formatting may be the solution. It happened to me before and it even showed me the sad iPod icon, but it worked again after I formated and restored.
    Good luck

  • IPod is corrupt but won't restore

Ok well, A few weeks ago I lost my ipod, and i just recently found it last week. It was completely out of battery so I charged it for a while, and then now whenever I try turning it on, it won't work giving me a folder icon and saying i should go to "apple.com/support/ipod". I tried that and I tried everything they told me on the site, then when I tried plugging it in and playing iTunes, it said my iPod was corrupted and that I should restore it. I tried that also, except whenever I try to restore it, it says "iPod could not be restored (Error 1418)". I've tried everything on the site, yet the same error still shows up. Any help please?
The iPod I'm talking about here is a 4th generation ipod with clickwheel (20 GB). Also please note that between the times I lost the ipod and found it again, I got a new computer with new iTunes and everything if that makes a difference at all.

The exact thing has happened to me as well. I plugged my ipod into the usb port of a computer at my university (to just charge the battery) without realizing that itunes was not installed on there. Since then, each time I attempt to restore my ipod I get something that says "There was a problem downloading the ipod software for the iPod 'iPod'. The requested resouce was not found." I don't know what to do, I have latest versions of both itunes and the ipod software.

  • IPod is corrupted... wont restore

My Ipod recently told me that I had to restore it with iTunes. When i do, however, my computer just tells me I have to restore it before I can use it with iTunes. This cycle goes on and on. Also a notable problem, if I turn off my iPod when it is not connected to my laptop, it just turns on again. I have to keep it connected to make sure it does not run out of battery power.

    Hi django1998,
You might want to try running Chkdsk on your iPod, since a restore doens't seem to be fixing the issue here.
First, restore your iPod once more in iTunes.
Then, check for disk errors. For information on chkdsk, see this MD document about it:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
After running Chkdsk, try restoring your iPod in iTunes again.
Do you still get that "corrupt" error message?
If you still do, then let me start out with something fairly basic. Have you tried the Five Rs? Check them out here:
