IPod is corrupted and not recognized by iTunes

When I plug my iPod into my computer and open iTunes, it does not appear anywhere in iTunes. I have tried this on another computer too, but the same problem happens. Whenever I plug it in and open iTunes, an icon in the tray pops up saying that iTunes.exe is corrupt and unreadable. I have tried using an older Apple Updater, but it said something about it not being able to update the iPod. When I have my iPod on, everything works fine, but when I plug it into my computer it won't let me restore or sync my iPod. My question is: is there any way to restore my iPod without iTunes on a Windows computer?
My iPod has worked fine before, this is the first time that this has happened.

If you can see your iPod in my computer, right click
on it and reformat it (FAT32, not a quick format) and
then Restore it in iTunes.
can u do this on any ipod? it will not showup on my computer..

  • IPod disconnects itself and not recognized by itunes or Mac

I've recently had issues when trying to connect my ipod to my mac. When connected it appears to be loading onto desktop and itunes. itunes briefly says "verifying ipod" then it is abruptly disconnected. Because I am unable to connect to itunes, I can't restore the ipod. I've tried everything else. I am going to try and find another computer and see if it will recognize it, but I'm not sure I can. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, did restoring the ipod resolve it or did something else?
This may be a coincidence, but I haven't connected my ipod since the latest itunes 10.1 update. May not be related, but thought it was worth mentioning.

    Welcome to the discussions,
Did you try to use another USB cable or check the docking port for debris or lint?
I don't think 10.1 is tghe problem, I just synced my 5GiPod and had no problems.
Did you make sure it is charged before you connect?

  • IPod stuck in "do not disconnect" and NOT recognized by iTunes

I updated to 7.1.1.... and my iPod is not stuck in "do Not disconnect" and not recognized by iTunes.
I have tried the Toshiba "Safely Remove Hardware" -- and selecting the iPOD -- but, notice comes back "cannot disconnect now because a program is accessing the device."
Anyone know where I can go from here??? Thanks very much.

the same thing happened to me yesterday after downloading the new itunes 7.1.1 the do not dissconnect would'nt go off and computer and itunes would'nt reconize my ipod video.
so i left it alone overnight to empty battery completely.
the do not disconnect was gone in the morning then i recharged it and plugged it back in to computer and everything is fine. i don't know why it froze on me.
my husbands ipod mini had a similar problem awhile back and i did the same and it also was fine.

iPod is stuck in recovery mode, and not recognized by iTunes.
Tried all of the recommended resets and combinations mentioned, but the ipod is still not recognized.  Genius at apple said it may be a hardware error, "The button is broke" but all of the buttons and cords work and i proved it to him. He then said he doesnt know, ma Now what?

If it does not work on other computers then I agree with the Genius

  • IPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes

iPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes.  Done 2 resets, used original charger and cable and bought brand new charger and cable from Apple store.  Nothing works.  This started yapping after the iOS 7.1.1 update.

Common troubleshooting is to try a different USB port and to give your ipad a reset. (hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot)
You can also try on a different computer to see if it's the ipad or the computer.
When you charge, do you try to charge plugged into the wall? that's the best way to charge.
If you go through all that and it's still not working hten it may be time to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out

  • TS1538 iPod Touch with blank screen that doesn't shut off and not recognized by iTunes?

I opened the app "MyTown 2", and it stayed on the opening screen for about 5 minutes - WAYYY too long! So I tried to close the app. A slight grayscale sort of film "slid" down over the opening screen, and then it went to this light gray, completely blank screen. It's been that way for over an hour - no matter what I do, can't do a hard shut down, and the device is not recognized by iTunes at all. It's completely DEAD!!!! Is there any hope? Anyone have a clue?

Following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod Touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

  • IPod touch 4th gen not recognized by iTunes 10.7 64-bit, but any solutions I found online do not work.

Everywhere I've looked here has not worked. I have recently gotten a windows 7 laptop and downloaded iTunes, but my iTunes will not recognize my iPod.
Here are some of the things I've done:
    - Verified AMDS is installed

    - Opened msconfig
    - The iPod touch troubleshooting steps
    - Taking a screenshot and searching classification of devices for iPod touch or "Unknown devices"
    - Run Diagnostics on iTunes... here are the results:

  • IPod Touch 4th gen not recognized in iTunes, read below...

So I plug my iPod touch 4th gen into my Windows 8 laptop and I get the little Windows 8 has recognized that a USB device has been plugged in jingle.  But the iPod does not charge, is not recognized by iTunes, and is not recognized by File Explorer.  So all I really get is the jingle.  How do I fix this?  I just downloaded the latest iTunes (11.1.1).  Thanks for your help!

I was having the same problem,  finally figured it out.  I am a W8 user.  Went to control panel, device  manager, and expanded portable devices. I happened to have my iPhone  plugged in to a USB port, and it showed up.  Clicked on the iPhone,  clicked on the driver tab, and updated the driver.  Now it connects to  iTunes.

So  apparently the driver in my iPhone 4 was the problem.  The TS1538  article did not address this issue.  I still think it has something to  do with the iTunes 11.1.1.11 update, because my phone and my wife's  iPhone 4s worked before the update and didn't after the update.  My  guess is this is the problem many are having right now.

  • IPod Touch 4th Generation not recognized in iTunes 12

Before iTunes 12, I would always be able to sync my 32 GB 4th Gen iPod Touch (iOS 6.1.6) with no problem at all. After the upload, it is no longer recognized by iTunes. It's connected, but the iPod icon is nowhere to be found. I restarted my laptop, but the same problem occurs. Can I get some help with this issue. Thank you.

  • IPod Touch 3rd generation not recognized in iTunes

I just recently upgraded my Macbook software to version 10.6.3 because I purchased an iPod shuffle and the newest version of iTunes would not install with my old software. Now my iPod Touch 3rd generation is not being recognized by the newest version of iTunes (10.2). I have already restarted my computer, and shut it down and removed the battery for a minute before starting it up again. None of these things worked. This is the first time I have tried to sync my iPod touch since installing the new software so I am not sure what I need to do.
