Ipod is corrupted!! Tried everything?

"Itunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes. You may also try diconnecting and reconnecting the iPod." Well I did what the program told me to. I reset it, tried reconnect/disconnect it, yet when I try to sync/update my ipod it keeps saying the same thing! It also says "Your iPod needs to reformatted for use with windows. Would you like to run iTunes to restore your ipod now?" I restore and everything. it still says the same thing. What should I do? Is there anyway I could fix this?

You can also try running some tests manually on the iPod. Reset the iPod by holding down the center and the menu button simultaneously. Then when the apple logo appears, hold down the center and the left button at the same time. A few seconds later, a screen should show up saying "Manual" or "Automatic Test" whichever you choose is up to you. From here you can test the hard drive, accessories, SystemConfig, Memory, Power, and I/O. If this doesnt tell you anything, it may be time to take it to apple for some professional help.

Help! iTunes wont recognise iPod and ive tried everything..

I seem to have this ongoing drama with iTunes. I thought it was all over last week when I updated iTunes with the latest version. Everything was sweet for a couple of days. Now its back!
Whats happenning is this:
I connect iPod.
Nothing happens, it doenst start up iTunes.
So I manually open iTunes.
iTunes is very slow. Finally opens up.
Then it spends another 5mins "frozen".
Finally the iPod pops up but its asking me to re-name it.
It asks me this every time.
When it syncs it takes a long time.
When I ask it to eject, it takes probably 20min.
Sometimes i have to eject it from My Computer.
This is what I have tried to do:
Restart the computer.
Restart iPod.
Change USB ports.
Restore iPod from iTunes - it never actually completed this as after 2 hrs of watching the progress bar not going past the first stage I gave up!
Re-install iTunes. Couldnt get it to go past the part where it was stopping a service? Dont know what this means but it wouldnt re-install.
So can anyone suggest what I should try now cause I am stuck.
Please if you have a suggestion I would appreciate your help.

Update - I have discovered that iTunes will only recognise my iPod if I open it in the following order 1)Connect iPod, and 2)Open iTunes. If I already have iTunes open and then plug the iPod in it wont work.
Its still asking me to set up the iPod and it takes around 5mins to detect the iPod is connected.
Please can anyone help me?????

IPod not reconizable - Tried everything (OSX)!!

I am having the same problem that many people are having with their iPod's: It will not show up on the desktop, in iTunes, or in iPod updater. I've tried the the 5 R's, I've put it disk mode and reconnected, I've even trashed iTunes and used the older iPod updaters (all on both a G5 and G4).
I've actually gotten lucky at one point and an iPod updater recognized it, so I tried to restore it and it froze at about 25% during the restore. This happened twice and haven't gotten it to recognize since.
It seems like most of the resolutions I've seen (aside from taking it apart or to an Apple store) have been for windows users.
Any suggestions?!!! Alwyas loved Apple products but this seems ridiculous.

4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Problem with iPod, I have tried everything!!!

I keep getting error messages 69, 50 and 13010 when I sync my classic 160 g. This means that I start syncing but it always crash before I get all the songs on it. I have tried to format it and reset it, remove the iTunes Library Genius and iTunes Library Extras.itdb.journal. Have also tried it on two computers, an XP and a Vista. I also checked if some of my music files was corrupted, they were not. Of course I have also tried to run the sollutions Apple offer, such as reseting the dll-files. It did not work.
What should I do?

I had the same problem, one day I deleted the data partition and it wont format any more on any PC, but when I connected it on a Mac the ITunes showed a message like my iPod classic having some kind of problems and it requested a firmware update, after downloading the firmware and installing my iPod back to work normally again. When I reconnected it to PC I had to reformat it with I tunes because the Mac used the HFS file format with it.

IPod Classic "locked" - tried everything

I have an iPod Classic 120 GB - out of nowhere - there is the "lock" symbol on the screen and it won't unlock. The Hold button is in the off position. I tried pushing it on and off but the lock stays on. The touch pad wouldn't respond to the touch and I eventually chose "Reset" on iTunes and went through the whole process. It wiped the iPod, reloaded all my files, but the Lock was still on and won't respond. I tried holding Menu and Select and this time it reset, but the lock is still on and I can't even choose "English" for the language. When it powers down (battery save) it's as good as dead. I can only wake it up by plugging it into my computer but it still won't let me select anything.
I never put the lock on in the first place so I have no idea what to do about it and there's no option to unlock from iTunes.

This happened to me I have Ipod classic 30g- older generation, not sure which.
The locked symbol came on for no reason. The wheel wouldn't function, the clock froze, couldn't play music, wouldn't come up as an icon on the computer, or in itunes. I let the battery go down overnight-I really had no choice- since the Ipod would not respond to anything I did, I couldn't turn it off. The next morning, I saw that the lock had disappeared. It was low on juice but once attached to the computer, the icon came up in Itunes like normal and it began to recharge. These things are very finicky.

hi, my ipod classic isnt resyncing for some reason, any suggestions appreciated. my mac recognizes when my ipod is plugged in. itunes recognizes it. ipod charges fine when connected to ipod. when i click the sync ipod option, the bar says "syncing ipod" but nothing happens, it doesnt sync.
here is what i have done so far:
1. deleted songs, at first i thought i was at capacity, but im not
2. reset ipod using the hold/toggle steps on this forum
3. updated itunes software

It can either be a problem of the iTunes (corrupted music file(s) ) or a bad sector of the hard drive of your iPod.
For the latter you can try to do a format (not restore) for your iPod with your computer, make sure it is not a quick format.
In case it is the corrupted files causing the problem, you have to find a way to delete it

Unresponsive ipod and I tried EVERYTHING

The fact is, it has frozen a few times by itself over the last few weeks. When I first recieved it I never encountered the problem until this month. It'll freeze whenever it pleases, this includes when it casually plays music, connecting or disconnecting from the PC. I will also add, I had press the "menu" and "select" button at the off switch. Even the on switch. Yet no Apple logo appears and I had tried it from 10 secs to even 30secs. I tried other various buttons and pressing it down but it does nothing. Even toggled the on/off switch in hope it'll come back alive.
Normally, at this point I give up and let the battery run out, so I'm here to ask what other alternative solutions is there? Thank you

Okay so I have a Ipod touch 4g.
For the past few days everytime i try to connect to itunes via my laptop AND main computer, I get several different errors, such as 'USB apple cable timed out' 'Ipod is detected but unreadable' and it wont connect or sync, sometimes no messages even apperead. each time my ipod wont charge, i am only able to charge it via my docking station (which i may add is NOT APPLE)
Ive tried troubleshooting via the very unhelpfull 'support' page, and nothing has worked, im now in the process of restoring my ipod, however it has now been 'Restoring' for nearly 30 minuites.
I also contacted apple a few hours ago and i was told an apple support person would ring in 'the next few mins' that hasnt happened.
sorry for the rudeness and mistakes but im pretty fed up of this now!

- Have you tried another cable?
- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and cracked or broken plastic.

Try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. From iTunes, select the iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer

I tried to sync my iPod Classic but if I try to sync more than 700 songs, everything freezes and the iPod gets corrupted, and I have to restore it. Can I fix this?

I recently bought a new Mac laptop. When I tried to erase all the songs on my iPod and sync it to my new library, 700 songs synced before the sync froze. I could still play songs on iTunes but no more songs would sync.
It wouldn't let me stop the sync and safely eject my iPod, so I just unplugged it. I plugged it back in and iTunes said the iPod was corrupted, so I restored it. I tried to sync it again, but the same thing happened, and it still happens every time I try.
Is there a way to fix this?

Are you running any sort of AntiVirus or security software on your system? If so, try disabling it temporarily and then resyncing your iPod.
Otherwise, try sync content to your iPod in smaller batches to see if that heps.

My itunes said I needed an update, I unplugged the ipod touch and reset everything. When "connect to itunes" showed on the screen, I plugged it back in and Itunes no longer recognizes it. I tried 4 usb cables, 4 different computers, all new itunes

I've gone through all the troubleshooting of restarting computers & itunes and updating itunes. Trying to put in to DFU mode. I've tried everything. iTunes just doesnt recognize this ipod. I have multiple ipods/iphones, and everything else works. I am eliminating the people who are saying it's a broken pin, that cannot be it, because immediately before that moment, it was connected, everything on my ipod was listed in iTunes. It just promted me to update to 6.0.1 (or whatever the most recent is) I also seen a lot of issues posted on the web of people who had jailbroken phones. This ipod touch is standard, there were no jailbreaks or anything used ever.
There was a program called Wondershare Dr.Fone, which is said to be a photo recovery tool for ipods, to retrieve recently deleted photos. (Guess I shouldn't have been trying to do that) I downloaded this trial and when it opened it stated that Itunes and this could not run at the same time. It shut down iTunes automatically. At that point, I didn't do anything more with the Wondershare Dr. Fone, I didn't try to run the program or anything. iTunes prompted me that the device needed to be upgraded to 6.0.1. I had an option to download or download and install the updated 6.0.1 from Itunes. I clicked on download only. So iTunes was downloading the new version from my iPod Touch. I shut it down the Wondershare Dr. Fone, unplugged the iphone from itunes/computer, went in to settings and did a master reset. I plugged the device back in to the computer when the iTunes logo and usb came on the screen, and the computer/iTunes doesn't recognize it anymore. I've tried 4 different usb cables and four different comuters all with up to date iTunes software. I did not break the port either, nothing is inside the port, or blocking it in anyway. All 4 computers and usb cables connected fine to other ipods and iphones.
So the questions are:
How can I get my ipod out of restore mode (iTunes logo and usb cord sybol) without iTunes recognizing it?
What could I have possibly done to this ipod?
Why doesn't anyone have the answer anywhere on the internet?
(Note: Even if the Ipod is placed in DFU mode, iTunes does not recognize it)

I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?) touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

looked everywhere for the answer to see if this has been discussed but this is the weirdest i've ever seen any of my ipods behave. ok...
30gb 5.5 generation ipod. plugged it in one day, won't sync to windows. froze up itunes only but not all of windows. funny. tried it again. says ipod is corrupt. attempted to restore it, but as soon as i hit the restore button, itunes freezes again. after about a dozen attempts i finally get it to the "restoring ipod" dialog box, but that gets stuck too and i have to restart. ipod stuck on "do not disconnect".
so i trialed and errored. tried 3 different usb-ipod cords. same thing. plugged in my oldschool 20gb ipod. windows and itunes both recognized that instantly and synced it. tried my 4gb iphone. same thing: windows synced that and recognized that.
finally took it to the apple store. the guy restored it for me on a mac. says it must be my computer. plugged it back in today (mind you, it's all reset, except i need to reformat it from mac to windows) and guess what, doesn't work. i took it to my brother's laptop computer, worked fine on there. restored it to windows based platform. got home tonight from a yummy thanksgiving dinner and hey, guess what, won't work!!!! same problems.
i've tried different cords, ipods, iphone, different computers and i am still not sure if the computer is the culprit or the ipod. oh and for the record, i have a custom built, quad-core 2gb desktop computer, and i have plenty of power, so it meets all the itunes requirements.
any help would be a blessing. karma police will thank you.

i have a similar problem. it doesnt freeze itunes, just makes it very slow. i tried restoring it but it was going for about 2 hours and was still in the first phase
also, every time i connect the ipod, i have to open itunes myself, and it thinks its an ipod it hasnt seen before (although the name is the same). it also de-authorizes any songs i got from the itunes store and so they dont get copied to my ipod.
this is most annoying, im sure all i have to do is restore it but i dont know how to do that if itunes wont do it.

IPOD not being seen in ITunes...I have tried everything - please help!!

Okay, so I have tried everything listed on Apple's website to get my IPOD to be recognized in ITUNES. When I plug my IPOD into the USB port, the "do not disconnect" screen pops up. Nothing happens in ITUNES. Windows Vista pops up and says "Do you want me to scan and fix the IPOD F: drive?" Either selection doesn't do anything. I have tried the 5 R's from apple. I have tried to download every update available etc. I have tried to even go in and update the driver. However Vista is telling me that I have the most up to date version of everything. When my IPOD isn't connected to the PC, everything seems normal - except for the fact that there is no music or anything on it. But all menus are available and accessbile. Can anyone suggest what to do here? I am at a loss. Please help!! Thanks.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. If I connect my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, the 'Do not disconnect' sign appears, the battery does not charge, and my iPod doesn't appear either in iTunes or on my desktop. Since it doesn't appear in either of these places, I have to ignore the 'do not disconnect' sign and disconnect anyway. If I then reset my iPod, quite iTunes and reconnect iPod to laptop, everything's fine - iTunes opens, and recognizes the iPod. I guess this isn't the end of the world, since I can simply avoid ever connecting my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, but is this normal?

Have you ever been able to sync your iPod shuffle to iTunes on your computer, or has something recently occurred? Are you working with a Mac or a PC? Without knowing what has been recommended to you, I'm going to start here with the basics troubleshooting for this issue.
