Ipod is Disabled, no original computer!

I have an old first gen Ipod touch, I was trying to pass it down to my brother but shortly discovered I don't know the pass code. Now it is disable, I no longer have access to the last computer it was synced to as that computer simply no longer works.
Is there anything I can do or is this device going to turn into a paperweight?

You'll need to restore it using another computer with iTunes, then. For information and instructions, see:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the device into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:

  • How to i get my ipod to sync to original computer,someone plugged it in to a different computer and now it wont sync anything to the original

    Having trouble getting ipod to sync with original computer,it was plugged in to laptop and sync to it but all my music and things are on desktop,and now it wants to sync with only laptop. How do i get to sync back with desktop?

    If everything (music and apps) are on the desktop, just connect the iPod to the desktop and :
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod if you want to set up the iPod as a new one.
    - If you want to retain the apps daa and setting currently on the iPod, right click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore the iPOd from that backup
    - You can also restore the iPod from a previous backup you have onthe Desktop if you want.

  • How do I enable an iPod touch without the original sync'ed computer? (and keep the music and files)

    My iPod got disabled, but my computer is broken so all I have is a computer that isn't sync'ed to my iPod. Everytime I connect it to the computer, it tells me to respond on the iPod so I can sync it, however I can't respond on the iPod; it being disabled and all. I want to enable it without actually restoring it so I can keep all my music and pictures. If my music is deleted from my iPod, I won't get it back anytime soon due to my broken computer. Also, I can't use iCloud to get my music because most of it is from cd's and not connected to iCloud, so I really don't want to loose it.

    Yo have to restore and thus erase the iPod. It is a security feature

    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    My ipod was disabled by my son entering the wrong pass code.  I no longer have the original computer i sync to.  I have tried to restore using the instructions sent by Apple Rep, and on these help pages.  I get a message from itunes saying that cannot connect to ipod touch b/c it is disabled, that i need to enter passcode to continue.. meanwhile, the ipod touch is saying i am disabled and to connect to itunes.  Any NEW ideas?

    If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
    iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)
    If none of the above work, try:

    If you have a passcode to the screen lock that you've forgotten, you'll need to restore the iPod. Since you don't have the original computer, this will erase all the content on the iPod. For information and instructions, see:

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
  • An older style Ipod has over 10,000 songs on it.  The original computer that contained these songs on itunes has since been replaced.  Can itunes/match get the songs from this ipod to store in match and then put on new computer/itunes?
    Can this new service of itunes/match allow you to retrieve songs from an older style ipod, store them in match, and then download them onto a new computer/itunes?  The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.  There were alot of songs on there and now I can't get the songs onto my new computer.  Can match work from ipod > match > computer?
    Only if it is an iPod touch that you can turn on iTunes Match.
    Did you make a backup of all the  important files on this computer before it broke down?
    Try this -> http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
  • How do i add songs to my ipod from another computer without losing the music i already have on it from the original computer?
    i want to connect my ipod to a friends computer to get some of her songs on my ipod. every time i do this tho it deletes the songs i already had on my ipod from the original computer. how do i get this to work? please help
    When you connect the ipod and are prompted to erase and sync....just click cancel.  Then click the ipod name below devices in the itunes source pane.  From the ipod summary screen you want to check manually manage music and videos under the options tab.  Apply the changes and you are now set to manually sync.  Which means you just drag and drop the music you want to sync to your ipod below devices in the itunes source pane.   Refer to this for more detailed instructions:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
    Download them to the computer to which the iPod is synced, re-sync.
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
    Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
    Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
    You can re-download your available previous purchases.
