IPod is full ! How do I update it?

Are you clever enough to solve my mystery?
iTunes has announced its library is bigger than my iPod's 60GB hard drive. It has helpfully created a 60GB selection of my music (called "MyIpodsName Selection", which it has uploaded to the iPod.
Problem is, when I add extra CDs to iTunes, these never get included. I'd like a way of creating a different version of "MyIpodsName Selection" whenever I wish.
The only way I can find to do this is to delete the iTunesLibrary file, then reindex my entire collection, wipe the iPod and start again.
Is there an easier way of doing this?
Thanks,
Tuna

In the meantime, I'm still hoping that someone will tell us how to recreate the "MyIpodsName Selection" file.
You don't need to use that file specifically.
If the library is larger than the iPod, iTunes simply creates a playlist to fit and selects Sync selected playlists. The file is named after your iPod.
Create a Smart playlist and limit it to 56GB.
Select the iPod in iTunes.
Click th eMusic tab.
Tick Sync music and tick Sync selected playlists.
Select this new smart playlist.
iTunes will sync this playlist.
To change the music on the iPod;
Select this playlist
Select all the songs on it and press Delete. It will remove and fill up again.
Plug in the iPod to sync it.
Or create one or more playlists and select those to sync.
Make sure they stay under the size of the iPod.
Add/delete from those playlists to change the music on the iPod.

i have model a1367, 8gb, 4th generation ipod touch. how do I update it from ios 4.2.1 to 6 or more?

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; there isn't a Software Update option in General on iOS versions prior to 5.0. It can only be updated directly to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 6.1.6 for a fourth generation iPod touch.

I have an iPod 4G, however I cannot update using iTunes. It says 'The iPod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your connection is active.' I have checked my connections, they're fine. My apps won't update because it require iOS 5, it's currently 4.3.5. • Steps to put itunes (50 gb) on external drive and delete from imac. How would I update my ipods and ipad from the external drive if I do this

I am planning to put itunes library on external hard drive. My Imac is running out of room and itunes is 50+ gb of music.
What steps do I take to do this. Also, if I do so, how do I update my ipods and my ipad 2. I do back up my files with time machine. This would be a completely separate new external hard drive. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Two ways:
    1. After transferring to the external drive create an alias to the iTunes Music folder on the external drive. Copy the alias into your Home folder. Rename the alias to "iTunes Music." Delete the alias from the external drive.
    2. In the iTunes preferences click on the Advanced icon in the toolbar. You should see a field labeled, "iTunes Media Folder Location." Click on the Change button and select the /iTunes Music/ folder on the external drive.

You needing to be running iOS 5 or later in order to do a Software Update from the device. To run iOS 5 you need a 3G or 4G iPod Touch. So if you really have a 4G iPod Touch, connect it to iTunes and you should be prompted about an update to its version of iOS.

  • How Can I Update More Than One Ipod on the Same Computer?

I've had my 30G Ipod since April 2006. For Christmas 2006, I bought my sister a 2G Ipod. I cannot figure out how to put songs on her Ipod as we both share the same computer and Itunes Library. I've already asked Ipod Corporate for help via their FAQ section regarding more than one Ipod operating with the same computer, but their advice (which told me to create a playlist small enough for her Ipod and checked as a shared playlist) did not work for me. I'd really appreciate any help with my problem. Owning an Ipod but being unable to listen to it, as I'm sure many people would agree, is quite annoying.

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and user account.
    b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
    Sharing a Library
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
However since you seem to have a problem with that method you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
If you are unfamiliar with setting up Windows user accounts you can read more here: Using Windows XP User Accounts

  • How can I update my iPod on a new laptop?

So, iOS 5 is finally out next week.
I would like to upgrade to it, however since my old laptop is broke I use my mums laptop for iTunes. How can I update my system without apps beinf rid of? Last time I did it, my apps remaines intact, but I don't know how I did this.
    Any help?

I have shared this thread with a number of users who have reported success with these steps.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3305461
This was posted for an iPad but it works the same way for an iPod. Important - and this has been covered - turn off auto sync in iTunes first, transfer your purchases next, back up your iPod after that.
It is all covered in this thread - Demo & King Penguin

    Hi AnnieAnneok,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The articles below may be able to help you with this.
Click on the links to see more details and screenshots.
First, I would suggest you backup your iPod touch and transfer purchases to your computer:

Confirm your Apple ID is set up and updated with the correct information:

Then, in Settings on your iPod touch, sign out of your iCloud Account and your iTunes Store account and sign back in with the correct Apple ID.
