  • IPod touch full but wont show music or videos

I just downloaded itunes 10 and threw a bunch of movies onto my ipod. I went to go watch them today at work and it says there is no video and no music on my ipod. but when i look at General>About> there are no songs no videos but there is only 178 mb avail on a 16gb ipod. so the Ipod is full but nothing is showing up. any ideas?

Here's what I've noticed with my 2nd generations iPod Touch since upgrading to iOS 4.
I'll download some new content, a couple of podcasts let's say. iTunes shows that I have nine (9) unplayed podcasts. I'll manually tell iTunes to sync the changes to my iPod but when that process completes, I'll notice that the iPod only shows eight (8) podcast present on the device. So I manually tell iTunes to sync again, this time the missing podcast gets transferred to the device and now iTunes and the iPod Touch both show that they have nine (9) podcasts.
But there's a problem. Before manually sync'ing the first time, iTunes says that there is .19 GB of "Other" content on my iPod Touch. After manually sync'ing the second time however, that number grows to .29 GB.
So here's what I think is happening. The podcast that didn't sync the first time gets trapped on the device as "other" content because its transfer during the first sync process fails. Now that space isn't recovered on the iPod Touch device unless you "restore" your device. Not good! I think a bug needs a killing.

  • Ipod is full with ''others''

    Hi,
When I connect my Ipod (30GB) to Itunes, it shows on the capacity bar on the bottom of the Ipod settings that my Ipod is full capacity with half music and the other half ''others'' and I have no idea what is my ipod full with. I have checked everything and I don't even have photos or video's on my Ipod.
    Please help me!
    thanks,
    Danie

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
"Other" is the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos. This includes the iPod's library and artwork plus any files you may have copied to your iPod in disk mode. The overhead for the library & artwork data is typically 1-2% of the size of the media, e.g. for 100Gb of Audio & Video expect to have around 1.5Gb of "Other". This information is needed for the iPod's operation and cannot be removed.
If you have significantly larger amounts of "Other", not related to files you've intentionally placed on the iPod, then these are probably disconnected copies of your media files or iPod libraries left over from failed sync operations. The only way to recover the space is to do a full restore.
If you have copies of all your media in your iTunes library this isn't a problem, but if you've been manually managing the content then I guess you'll want to try to recover the files from it first. See this post by Zevoneer on transferring files from the iPod to your computer. Some of the tools rely on the iPod having a healthy library which yours obviously doesn't however the manual method mentioned towards the end of the post would work.

  • IPod is full, playlists gone

My iPod is full. iTunes created a playlist called Patty's iPod Selection. But now on my iPod I no longer have my other playlists. I want to continue to add music to my library (and can delete some stuff so that it fits on the iPod) but short of buying a newer iPod how can I preserve my other playlists on my iPod?
This must be an issue with Nanos as well...

Sorry, you mentioned Nano in your original post & I assumed.
Anyway, when your iPod is docked to iTunes & the iPod preference page opens, click on the music tab which should be the 1st one, after the summary tab. You will have 2 choices at this point, "all songs & playlists", or "selected playlists". You can make your choice at that point.

  • Question about Mini-iPod being full......

How do you know when your Mini-iPod is full? Will the screen say so? I have a problem with transferring songs and I'm wondering if the iPod being full is the reason why it's not transfering. Right now it's has about 480 songs (it's supposed to hold 1000) and before I upload I always convert them to that other format (I forgot what it's called), not mp3.

Well, you can always check your left space direct from your iPod (Menu/Settings/About) or from iTunes (when sync, on the bottom of the page). I don't know if appears a message when you have no more space...

  • Itunes says memory on ipod is full but is actually empty

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this:
I recently downloaded itunes 7 as recommended for my Ipod Nano 2nd generation, my ipod is showing, but when i try to sync my library with my ipod it tells me there is not enough space to do this, the memory bar on itunes tells me my ipod is full but in reality it is empty. Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Thanks.
    PC   Windows XP

A restore will usually fix this.

  • I get a message that says ipod is full

I have the 4gb ipod nano and I only have 3.7 gb of music on there, and when I try to update it with 1 or 2 new songs I get a message that says "cannot update. ipod is full" Anyone have an idea to fix this or know what it means?

4GB is the storage space in decimal (4,000,000,000 bytes) BUT as with hard drives, this listing is misleading since computer storage is defined as mulitples of 1024. i.e. if a diskette holds 2MB of info, it really has 2 * 1024(coverts to KB) * 1024 (converts to bytes) = 2,097,152 bytes. As you can see this is not 2,000,000 bytes. You can see why your space is only 3.7 if you take 4,000,000,000 and divide by 1024^3. You get 3.725GB of space. That being said, if you want more space you may have to delete some songs or playlists since it appears that playlists waste disk space in that they duplicate the song so a song in your library and then in a playlist is actually on your Nano twice instead of only once and then just being referenced in a link.

  • Ipod is full and main PC is in the shop

The PC that I have been using with my IPOD is in the shop. My ipod is full, I have downloaded to many podcast. I do not want to lose all of these pod cast and other stuff I have on it, but Itunes says it is going to remove everything on this ipod and replace it with what is on the new computer witch is nothing. How do I save everything?

Connect your iPod to your second computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel".
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it:

Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone

  • Syncing Podcast  telling me that iPod is full

I have been happily syncing podcast for the last few months, recently however I am being told that the syncing can not be done because the iPod is full. I have the Podcast syncing to only copy/keep the 3 most recent unplayed versions and I am only trying to sync 5 podcasts on to a 4Gb nano. I have checked out the size of the files and in total it should be about 800 Mb total. on the iPod itself and in the syncing window, it shows that it is trying to sync all the old podcast first before getting to the new ones and the old files are stored in the iPod_Control directory of the iPod.
Am I doing something wrong, is there a reset i should do or can do. Would a complete reset of the nano be in order? I do not have any music on the device some I am not fussed about a reset.

I have the same problem. I have podcasts set to 'sync all unplayed', but the ipod seems to sync the played ones to -- although they're not visible in the 'podcasts' section on the ipod, they are visible under 'artists'. Possible theories/workarounds, not sure if they are right yet, I'd appreciate any thoughts:
I have a smart playlist that contains all my podcasts, but I've discovered that deleting this smart playlist frees up a lot of space. Perhaps having the playlist leads itunes to sync the played podcasts, since they're now in the 'music' category, as well as the unplayed ones.
(ii) I have 'only sync checked items' selected. I wonder if itunes reads this as 'sync all and only checked items'. Podcasts are checked when they're downloaded, so itunes puts all of them, including the ones that have been listened to, on the ipod as music.
(iii) Clicking 'restore' frees up of space, deleting the listened-to podcasts. This is time consuming since all the music has to be deleted from the ipod and re-uploaded.

  • Why is my 8gb ipod touch full with only 227 songs

Why is my 8GB Ipod touch full with only 227 and nothing else. I also share my itunes with my Iphone, There is only audio on my IPod

Did you post this same question recently?
What is the detail format of the music? Music can be compressed to different degrees. The less compression the more storage each song needs.
Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"

  • IPod Reports no songs or playlists, however iPod is full.

I have a 30gb 5G ipod that has never had any problems until I loaded it full of new songs (around 20,000 of them) which are small files for foreign language study. Subsequently, the iPod reports that there are no songs or playlists. However, the ipod is roughly 17 Gb full, and this is properly reported under the about menu.
I restored my ipod, (twice) but this didn't help - midway through the first try, I stopped the sync and checked and the songs showed up, and I plugged in and re-continued. When all the songs were updated, once again no files display.
The iPod reports no songs or playlists, when in fact there are thousands of tracks on the iPod. The pictures, oddly, show up. When I say it reports no playlists or songs, I mean that if I go to the about screen, it says 0 songs and 0 playlists, although it shows the correct amount of Gb used. All of the menus are blank, with no songs or playlists. The exception is the photo viewing function, which still works fine and displays all of the photos on the iPod as it should.
This same problem has been reported a number of times by other iPod users elsewhere, just one example:
    http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/index.php/t-61231.html
I am using the most current version of iTunes on Windows XP. Everything looks and behaves normally on the itunes side of things.
My iPod is essentially unusable currently, as it is loaded with songs but won't recognize them. I would appreciate any help.

I tried to change the drive letter as suggested. However, after a restore and a sync, I end up with an iPod full of inaccessible files. sigh
By the way, to be exact, I have over 33,000 files now - could the shear number of files have something to do with it? Is there a limit of the number of files that can be put on the ipod? I also have over 300 playlists - could this be a problem?

  • HELP. iPod space = full, even though it's not.

Hey. Yesterday my iPod Nano 4 GB (not really, it's only 3,62 GB) turned weird, so I clicked on Reset and I thought that it would be all normal again. ..No. First of all, 1/2 of my music disappeared (on my iPod) so I added all the missing music again. Now it says that 1,6 GB = music, and 2,1 GB = other stuff. I've only got the three basic games, and i've got no podcasts/movies or anything. I don't know what's the problem because I can't seem to find an answer here in the forums. It also says that I haven't got enough space. I'm apparently missing 0,06 GB..
The second problem is that I added some new music but somehow, it won't show up in my iPod, even though it shows up in iTunes. This is really irritating. :/
I got my iPod Nano on December 24th '08 (maybe '07, i'm not sure), in case anybody wonders.
    Thanks in advance.

I had a similar issue with a 180 or 160 GB (or whatever the largest memory config was, I got rid of it so I forget) iPod. Turns out the drive went bad and as soon as it reached the 1/2 way point it would say "Memory Full" or give me some other error and crash. Worked for months after that as long as I was careful to not sync to fill more than 1/2 the drive.
You may still have all your music on there but it may be curropted and unreadable so it's taking up space but the software can't address it or delete/sync to it, etc.
Try a complete system reset first. If that fails you may have a failing unit.

  • IPod is full even though iTunes library is no where near iPod's capacity

My iTunes library contains 19.55GB of music. I automatically update my ipod, so that the files are the same in iTunes and my iPod, yet the iPod has 27.69GBs on it. I have no additional files stored on my iPod. Does iTunes include the space of album art when calculating the size of the library? In other words, could this be album art taking up space on my iPod that isn't accounted for in iTunes? Or is it something else?

    Hey Bean,
A few things you may want to know/try...............
    1.The iPod's capacity is 27.80GB(Mac) & 27.69 (PC). The 2.5 Gigs missing are for the iPod's OS.
2.Album art is included in the iD3 tags attached to each track. However, when you add album art, it does make the track a fraction bigger (but you won't see the increase). Unless you are using RAW photos which are HUGE/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic_ __/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
3.As WinDoze doesn't see the iPod nativley, it opens it like a generic USB device. It knows it's an iPod because you have iTunes installed. because of this you may find that there are hidden files on your iPod (usually drivers for other USB devices). These can just be deleted by showing hidden files.
4.If that is not the case, Restore the iPod using the 'iPod Updater' (latest version free on Apple.com/support/ipod). This will wipe the iPod and re-write the iPod's OSwith the updated software.
Once you've done that put the iPod into manual update and transfer the songs (you can put it back to auto-update afterwards).
5.If you sync your photos to the iPod, you can have the full file coppied over, uncheck this as they take up a lot more space than the thumbnails.
    hope they help?
