  • 4G Nano Backlight Bug?

I have an 8GB nano, and i have found a bug with the backlight, or at least i think that it's a bug. You may know that you can set the backlight timeout, and when the ipod is inactive for that many seconds, the backlight will turn off. Instead of just turning off, it will fade from bright to off. (it looks a bit better than just to off). I have found that if you put the ipod to sleep, (hold the play pause button, or use the sleep command in the main menu) and then enable the hold switch, something weird happens. Since the hold switch is enabled, you must slide the hold switch back to off to get the ipod to awaken. When you slide the switch back, it will automatically turn back on. But now, the backlight will not dim to off anymore. It will just turn off. The only way to make it work properly again, is to change the brightness in the settings. And to be honest, i think that it happens anytime you sleep the nano. If you sleep it, then wait 10 minutes, and even if the hold switch is never enabled, the problem persists. Games can also cause the problem. I have tried resetting it, and no luck. Can anyone confirm this bug?

    I want to clarify.
If you sleep the ipod nano, and then wait for 10-15 minutes, the backlight will no longer dim to off. It does not matter if the hold switch is on or not.
Try it by changing the brightness to something new. (this will make sure that it dims) Then wait till the backlight times out, and watch it dim from bright to off. Then put it to sleep, and come back in 15 minutes. At least on my ipod, it will no longer work the same way. It will just turn off, no dimming at all.

  • How can I set up an inactive iPhone 3GS as an iPod?

I have an inactive iPhone 3GS that has been restored to factory settings. I can not seem to get past the setup screens without putting in an active sim card. I don't have a sim card to put in it, nor do I want to put one in, I only want to use it for an mp3 player.
Is there a way around the set up screens? Can I use this expensive piece of equipment I OWN?

I'm pretty sure the only you can activate it is by putting in a sim card. This is just for the intial activation part. Once that is done you can remove the sim card and use it as an ipod.
If you don't have a sim you could try borrowing one from a friend? It's only temporary and the whole process will only take a couple of minutes
    Hope this helps!

  • IPod, restarting, text fading, clickwheel inactive

I purchased an 80 5G ipod at the beginning of November, 2006. Since then, I have experienced 2 major issues with this thing. The first was completely my own fault - upon disconnecting the iPod from my computer, I yanked the USB cable out as soon as the icon disappeared from the desktop. The iPod still had all the songs, but there was nothing in my music folder. There was no way of retrieving all the 80GB of songs I had stored on it. A wave of massive depression ensued.
Then, last week, when things were finally going smoothly again, another issue happend. I was listening to a track, and it just died. The text menu on the iPod sort of faded like a nintendo which just shat itself.
But, I plugged it into my computer at the office, and all the songs were still there. So, I unplugged the iPod from the USB cable, and all of a sudden, the thing restarted itself. The clickwheel stopped working. I restarted it using the buttons - and it worked. Was the clickwheel really not working?
I decided to restore the iPod in iTunes again. After the restart, the click wheel was still inactive. The only button which worked was the 'hold' button. When I turned it on, the little lock would show up on the screen, then, when I took it off HOLD, the text suddenly began to fade again. I'd press any button on the iPod and the thing would just begin the restart cycle again.
I went to the mac store. First thing they said was, "not under warranty". The next thing they said was "probably a 'chip' issue." The only alternative they suggested was to get it replaced for about 18000 YEN (i'm guessing about 140-160 US dollars). I wasn't willing to spend that much on something I had already spent over 300 for (which only lasted a year and a bit).
I asked the store attendant to restore it again - he used disk utility to wipe it clean, and then ran the iPod restore in iTunes.
    The Ipod still didn't working.
I had a 1G iPod which lasted 5 years. By the end of its life, it would only work for about 40 minutes, but it never had any problems. In fact, every apple product I have purchased, until now, has NEVER had any major issues like this. I was not happy.
BUT, I come into work today, and the bloody thing started working again. ***.

When I select my iPod touch in iTunes the buttons are inactive when I try to sort by name, artist etc.  Also about half of the links under 'file' etc are not active.

Further to my question, when I plug in and select my iPad 2 I don't have the same problem.  I have restored the settings on my iPod Touch and updated both iTunes and iPod Touch software and restarted my iPod touch.  Nothing has made any difference.

  • Set auto shut down for iPod touch after period of inactivity

I keep falling asleep with my iPod on. My old MP3 player had a setting where it automatically shutdown after a specified period of inactivity. Is there a download or setting of some sort that will make the ipod touch do the same?

I can't try it out for you now and don't know if it's on 2.x, but read p. 32 of the IPT manual under Sleep Timer. The option is under the Clock -> Timer on the Home menu. If the feature is still there...
Here's a link to the online manual:

  • Synch the ipod on itunes (apps are grey (inactive) without moving the apps from "folder" to store icons apps

    Hi,
I use 2 PC to synch and store apps on itunes. I store apps on itouch by making folder for each games categories. When I connect my ipod to one pc, all apps are grey (inactive) and I have to synch the itouch, so all folders will be removed.
So how can I synch the itouch without mofifying (removing) folders?
Hope my request is easy to understand.
    Thank you

Apps can be downloaded again for free: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Some apps remember the in-app-purchases and will allow you to activate them again as well, check this article about in-app-purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4009
App data and settings are part of the backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
So, if you have an ipod backup, you can restore the settings after you set up your ipod again. If you haven't got the backup, your game settings etc are gone.

  • Cannot turn iPod on after it's inactive for a long time.

I have an iPod 30GB video. When I get home from work I cannot turn on the iPod without pressing the reset buttons. When the iPod comes on, there is hardly any battery left at first and then the battery goes back to its prior location.
However, after it's originally on for the day I can turn it off and on with no problem. It just happens after a long period of inactiveness.
Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong when shutting it off or could there be something wrong with iPod? Is this serious and something I should worry about?
    I appreciate any help. Thanks.

After a period of about 24 hours the iPod goes into what is called deep sleep see the following support page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60945 ).
It is unusual for you to have to hit the reset buttons to turn it back on, usually just pushing down the center button will do it. The batter meter is pretty normal, it sometimes takes a second for it to check the battery and calibrate it to the screen so that is not anything to worry about.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • Can't Make iPod Updater 2006-01-10 Inactive Within Software Update

    Hello team,
I've been setting up a graphite CRT iMac at my school here with OS X Jaguar, and in running various Software Update installs, I've discovered the "flaw" I listed in the subject line. Namely, that no matter how many times I attempt to do so, I cannot make the iPod Updater 2006-01-10 inactive. I have literally tried to do so about 20 times (after nearly ever other software update install/reboot), but each time I launch Software Update, the damned iPod Updater reappears in the list. Any idea what's going on here or how to prevent it from showing up anymore? Thanks a heap in advance for your feedback!

Actually, I have been able to make three other SU updates inactive (Bluetooth 1.3.3, iSight Updater 1.0.2 and iPod Driver 3.1) and they DON'T reappear each time I launch Software Update. ONLY the aforementioned iPod Updater 2006-01-10 continues to reappear, despite the repeated attempts to make it inactive. So, obviously something else is afoot here. I continue to welcome any suggestions or ideas.

How do I change or recover a forgotten Apple ID Password?
If you've forgotten your Apple ID Password or want to change it, go to My Apple ID and follow the instructions. See Changing your Apple ID password if you'd like more information.
I no longer have an email address that was also my Apple ID. Can I still use the email address as my Apple ID?
Apple recommends you change your Apple ID to your current, working email address. This will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
