My daughter has forgot her password to her Ipod....how do I reset it?

Connect the iOS device to your computer and restore via iTunes. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.

The device will have to be restored but without the last computer it was synced to, that's not a possibility.
Take the iPod to an Apple store or Apple certified repair shop.

When I do connect to itunes, the device is not recognized and then a message comes on the screen that says it is locked and to enter the password to access it. HT201210 daughter forgot her password to her ipod, tried to do the reset and half way through it i get a message saying that it can't sync my ipod because it's locked. So what can i do for it to restart it's self from factory?

Restore, if iTunes will let you. Everything except the password will be restored. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. Be forewarned that it takes a long time. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
