Ipod is making my computer crash

This is driving me crazy. A week ago I installed Itunes 6.0, and when I tried to update my Ipod software, my computer crashed in the middle of the update. Now not only does Itunes fail to recognize my Ipod, but the updater freezes and cannot update it. I am constantly getting the blue screen of death.
Also, when I start my computer with the ipod in the docking station, a window pops up with the search light looking for "Autoplay". Please help me.
Btw I've tried reinstalling itunes and the software, and it simply doesnt work.

That is EXACTLY my problem Ben! I guess I will have to look to see if I can find the original CD and give it a try. I was hoping that Apple would get a clue and provide a PATCH! Thank GOD this is the only Apple product I own! What a Hassle!
I bought my 15 gig (2nd gen.) Ipod 2 years ago (Back when they included the dock, case, etc. with it!) Still love my IPOD... Can't stand Itunes though.

You will not lose your Apps. They can be reloaded onto your new iPod Touch.

  • I have an iPod video. My computer crashed, I have reinstalled iTunes, luckily I had back up of music so that's ok. I have photos on my iPod that I would like to transfer back to the computer as I lost them!! But it is a database file and I cannot open it.

My computer crashed and I lost my photos, but had a backup of my music. How can I open the database file to transfer the pics back to my computer? Help please.

You won't be able to, just by navigating out the iPod's photos folder in iTunes. You'll likely need the help of some sort of third party software to get the job done for you.  One thing you'll want to keep in mind about these photos is that they are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnail versions that were optimized for viewing on your iPod's Video smaller 2.5" LCD display.

  • Itunes is making my computer crash.

After installing itunes my computer crashes, freezes and the graphics plays up. When I uninstall itunes the computer works fine and then after reinstalling itunes and the same problems occur again. Anyone have a clue as to what may be happening?

What computer are you using? This could be important because some makes come with preinstalled software that can conflict with iTunes.
Does Windows crash with either a blue screen stop or automatic restart, or does Windows keep running but freezes/behaves abnormally?
Does the problem occur when iTunes is installed whether or not iTunes is running, or only if you start iTunes.
    Does Quicktime work normally?
One thing that occurs to me immediately is some kind of conflict with other software on your PC. You can use MSconfig to investigate this:

  • Photoshopshop  making my computer crash when opening

this is the first time i have ever made a discussion because i seriouly  have no idea on how to soles this
i just got back spending Christmas in wales with my family and i opened up photoshop and after it loading for 3-4 seconds my whole screen went a random colour mostly dark grey or black all my other adobe programmes work fine
i thought it might be the new driver update i did so i installed some older drivers with no luck

I think Mr.Cox (senior computer scientist at Adobe and long-time photoshop programmer) has occasionally (edited) pointed out that an application like the current Photoshop can not crash the OS, that needs a bug in the OS itself, a low-level-driver, …
Have you tried restoring the preferences yet (by pressing and holding Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop)?

  • My iPod keeps making my computer shut down

I don't know why, but whenever I plug in my iPod my computer just shuts down. I have WindowsXP and this has only started happening recently. My brother has had an iPod for a few years and no such problems, but now all of the sudden...anyhow; I've just recently updated my iPod (5th gen. video, 30gig)and iTunes (7.0), does anyone know if there are problems with either of those?
    Any suggestions at all!!
    Thank you,
    -me-

are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Old computer crashed, how can I use my ipod mini on my new computer. I no longer have the original itunes software cd.

I have an ipod mini. My computer crashed and no longer have software. Can I still use my mini to go into itunes and buy music? I have a new computer, windows 7. Thanks.

Yes, you should still be able to use your iPod Mini on your new Windows 7 PC. Simply download iTunes from Apple's website and you should be good to go.  You don't need the original software that came with it anymore as it's now bundled with the iTunes application.

  • Syncing iPod to establish a new iTunes library - former computer crashed

Hi. I had my itunes library on a computer and had not backed it up. Most of my music was on my ipod touch. The computer crashed and I cannot access anything. So I have put itunes on our HP netbook. Is there a whay to copy the music from my ipod to the new itunes library. I keep getting a message that says "an ipod canbe synced with only one itunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this ipod with the contents of this itunes library. Erase and synce or cancel" My original itunes library is gone because of hte computer crash and I don't want to lose what I have on my ipod by erasing and syncing. Is there anyway to get the music off and into the new library?
    THanks for your help.

Your iPad is married to its now deceased old computer. This is the reason for the necessity of a backup for your computer, which your iPad is not.
Your iTunes Store and App Store purchases will not be lost. Just don't "erase and sync" when you sync your iPad to your new Mac:
If you want to move the iTunes Store purchases on your device to the new computer, choose "Transfer Purchases." The new computer must be set up with your iTunes Store account and authorized to play your iTunes Store purchases in order to transfer your iTunes Store purchases.

  • Computer crashed. Lost all my i-tunes.  HELP

I had transferred some 1,300 songs from my CDs to iTunes and then loaded them onto my iPod. THEN, my computer crashed and the person who got it running again had totally wiped everything including my entire iTunes library. How can I put the songs on my iPod back into the iTunes library. I don't even dare connect my iPod to the computer for fear of it wiping everything off. I am NOT real savvy on this. I run Windows XP and have the Classic iPod. Thank you to ANYONE who can lead me through this.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • In trying to sync my old iPod to my new computer, it says that I cannot sync because it belongs to anther library.  How do I find that old library for my new computer?

I have a new computer.  It has been several years since I have downloaded any songs to my iPod.  My old computer crashed so I could not get the info off of it.  Now that I try to sync this iPod to my new computer, it states that it cannot because it belongs to another Library.  How do I find that Library.  I have resigned into iTunes, found my old account, and it still does not sync.
    Any Ideas"
    Thanks

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.

  • Computer Crashed... can I RE-DOWNLOAD purchased TV shows?

Ok, so I'm kinda new to iTunes.
I have an iPod with some of Grey's Anatomy (TV SHOW) on it, and I had downloaded the rest of it to put on the iPod. However the computer crashed and I lost everything. Now that I am back up and running, can I re-download the files I did not get to view/copy to the iPod yet?
I only see the files I did not download yet showing up in iTunes. I purchased them in a season pass. Do I have to pay for them again...
    Please help.
Intel P4 3.0   Windows XP Pro

The policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage."
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • HT1296 my computer crashed and I had to reinstall itunes and now I cannot sync my ipod with my computer

My computer crashed and I had to reinstall iTunes.  Now I cannot sync my iPod with my computer.  Any suggestions?

    Was this issue ever resolved?
Ditto for me!  I am so upset because about 15 years, I've had the same old Toshiba Gigabeat MP3 player which worked perfectly fine until the day Gigabeat (the software) upgraded to a Vista-compatibility program which made the MP3 go haywired!!  I couldn't get the MP3 player (again) to work as normal prior to the update.  Then, two years later, the business no longer supports MP3 players, nor does it invest in software patches!  Now I have a failed equipment ... though it still plays, but just won't let me work the controls to choose or select tracks!  I can only operate the on/off button on the Toshiba Gigabeat MP3 player! AND, concidentally, the battery seems to shorten (lessen)!  Interesting...
Then, I decided okay, I had enough...I can't play over 5.000 songs just to return to start; I decided to purchase the Apple iPod Classic 160 GB Silver!  I've had it only since March 2012.  It worked wonderfully at first.  It took me months to put all the music from my CDs to this magical device.  And, then, all of a sudden, my computer CRASHED (ironically in JUNE 2012!!) and lost all on the hard drive ... perhaps it is not ironic afterall.
Here's a tall quesion to Apple manufacturer, are they preparing us to confiscate our equipment?  It sure seems that way to me!
No support from Toshiba (which, by the way, are currently investing in so-called "green energy in nuclear projects" in the state of Texas), nor is there any support by Apple ... Interesting!  Sorry for babbling.  But I'm tired of big money making corporations putting on the bluffer masks on the public!  Something just ain't right!  Hold tight to your vinyls, tape decks, cassettes, 8-tracks and CDs...  This may be just another whim to making big time money!

  • My old computer crashed and I lost my old library of recorded CD's and new music.  I downloaded iTunes again and found my old account info.  How do I add a new CD without deleting all of my music on my iPod?

My old Computer crashed and I lost my old library of recorded CD's and tunes.  iTunes says I must delete everything off my iPod in order to add a new CD.  It also said I already have an account which I was able to locate.  I don't know how to get into my old account.  I think that would solve everything.  I have Windows XP.  I'd appreciate any input.

    No.
All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and your iTunes library on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
When music was purchased on a CD, if the CD was lost and you returned to the store where the CD was purchased with your receipt, were you given a replacement CD?
    The same applies here.
