IPod is not recognised on either Windows nor on Mac. Please help!

I have an old iPod (3d generation I think) which worked ok up to the point when I got a new Macbook with a new iPod (60G, black). Since then the old iPod doesn't want to be recognized anywhere, on Windows or Mac. When I switch it on, all I see is the apple on the screen, nothing else works. I tried all the solutions that are on the support site, but none of them work. Could anyone please help me with this problem?

As it was going through the first stage of restoring, it stopped before it reached stage 2 and then a window came up that says i can't restore the ipod. Now, all my songs in my ipod is erased, my computer doesn't recognize my ipod shuffle and i can't listen to ipod or transfer music to it? what should i do?!!!

Hi - We seem to have encountered the same problem!! I forgot to eject the ipod from itunes last night and now itunes will not recognise the ipod. The pc recognises it in device settings, but you cannot restore it from that point. I have downloaded the restore function, but the restore button does not highlight, so that is no good.
I am in a dilema here because no one seems to know how to fix the problem, I've only had it a couple days!!!

30 GB Ipod Video not recognized by either Windows or Itunes

Hi,
I purchased a new 30 GB iPod Video (5th generation) today to replace my old iPod photo. It's been charging for a few hours, but when I plug it into the computer there is hardly any recognition. Windows will make the "you plugged in a USB" noise but that's it. The iPod will not go into "DO NOT DISCONNECT" mode, nor will iTunes recognize the iPod.
iTunes is updated, and I tried many of the tips on the pages here. I've also tried to reset it by holding the menu and enter buttons, and it reset, but there was no recognition. I even tried toggling the hold switch back and forth a few times and I got noting.
I'm seriously perplexed, so any help would be appreciated.

Hey, I have just recieved my new 30 gig ipod video as well for my birthday on halloween! Which was also to replace my 20 gig ipod photo that died...
My ipod will not be recognized by my computer in my computer or in itunes... I have tried all i know and all that the support online knowS!!! Why did they stop making the cd's that had the driver in it!@!!!!
Anyways umm i would also greatly appreceiate some guidance because so far i have unintalled all itunes stuff and then reinstalled it and nothing..., i have restarted my computer many times and it will so the DONT DISCONNECT IPOD And im like SUCCESS!!!!! THen that goes away before my computer has finished starting up and all hope is onoce again lost... !!! Someone please help Us!!!

Ipod touch not recognised in windows or itnes since updating to itunes9

Hi all,
I upgraded to itunes9 and now my ipod touch (2nd gen 16gb) is not recognised in either windows or itunes.
The ipod still charges via the USB lead so presmably there is nothing wrong there
So far I have tried the following
Uninstalled all itunes, apple stuff, bonjour etc
reinstalled
still same issue.. stopped and restarted apple mobile.. repaired apple mobile.. etc etc
rebooted a zillion times and spent the last 36 hours tearing my hair out all to no avail, its still not recognised.
At one stage i had a "device found" message, swiftly followed by a "device has malfunctioned" error message and back to square one again.
It's my understandin that I can't ring apple (unless I pay) as I have had the ipod since Jan 2009 so if anyone here could help or has any suggestions I wold really appreciate it.
In the device manager there is nothing ipod related in the Universal Serial Bus section or anwhere else in there, have tried it in every USB port.. it charges from them all.. but nothing else. I'm so frustrated

The ONLY program you need for an iPhone on Windows 7 is iTunes. Remove whatever the other program is, then remove and re-install iTunes as diesel vdub recommends.

Tried it on my friend's computer, and again not recognised by windows or itunes.
ipod plays ok, so I assume there's a problem with the USB port on the ipod itself.
Not found any useful help on the support site.
I don't imagine this can be repaired - any ideas?

THANK YOU! I have spent 4 hours doing everything the website said, including unistalling all of Itunes versions, going into Hardware Update, going into My Computer and "managing" it, emptying my TEMP folder, and finally I had the massive brainstorm to go into the discussion board, and reseting the iPod did it! You are a savior!
BTW, to the poster who asked if the new version did it. Absolutely. I downloaded it last night and everything gave up the ghost immediately after.

If both your MacBook Pro and iPod are unable to "see" the Wi-Fi network provided by the AirPort Express, it is most likely NOT that you are missing an "airport card," but the Express may be the issue instead.
One quick test is to see if either device can "see" other Wi-Fi networks. If they can, then you can definately rule both of them out as the issue.
By default, the AirPort Express will broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Can either device see this network? If not, then I would recommend that you perform a "factory default" reset on the Express, and then, check again.

Okay, at home and my iPod went dead so I plugged it into mates laptop at home to charge (didn't think this would hurt it cos I didn't touch his keyboard or press anything, just charged it!) Came to work tried to update iPod with new tunes and it said it did not recognise the iPod (the name I gave my iPod did not come up either) and told me to restore it. Clicked on restore - told me it would go back to factory settings and I would lose everything). I went ahead and restored it. No it just keeps telling me to restore it. I had the same thing happen. I hooked my iPod up to my notebook, which has iTunes and is set up for my daughter's iPod 30GB Video. I have the old clickwheel 20 GB. Mine is set up to use my desktop computer. I thought it would not harm it to just charge it on my notebook as long as the notebood was turned off. Then when connecting to desktop, I got the do not disconnect sign..I ended up rebooting the computer and ended up with the sad iPod face. I have reset so many times and cannot restore iPod. I have charged it numerous times with the wall outlet. When connected to the desktop, it just shows the Apple icon. I have reinstalled iTunes. Please let me know if you find an answer to this problem. Best of luck to us both.

help ! my ipod touch isnt recognised in my computer ,nor in my itunes diagnostic program it says no ipod detcted .on my ipod touch 2nd gen screen it has the itunes symbol and a usb lead symbol.when itunes comes on it says itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode ,you must restore before you can continue .i have tried restoring many times but itis stuck in a loop !! ive followed the apple support info about administrative tools and trying to reasign a new path /drive but when i get to the part where it says right click on the ipod symbol there isnt a symbol there !! help im going out of my mind !!
