Ipod is not Recognized by Mac.

I have a third generation Ipod, it is three years old. I recently charged it with an outlet charger and not by my computer. Now the ipod says that i need to connect my Ipod to my computer to reset it, but when i connect it to my mac it doesn't recognize that my ipod is connected to the computer, though it is charging. When i connect my ipod to the computer the ipod says it is in disk mode and not to disconnect it. However, the screen is usually colored when i connect it to the computer and now it is in grey scale. My USB port is working, i checked them and even used my backup disk in both of the ports to ensure that they are working.
I dont know what to do to fix this. It is definitely not my mac because it is brand new and the software is up to date, as is my itunes.
Help!

  • IPod classic not recognized by mac or itunes.... but otherwise works fine.

I'm wondering if there is any way I can save my music. I had to reformat my macbook due to corruption of whole disk encryption. My only copy of my music library was on the iPod itself. I was able to restore about 2/3 of my collection from the iPod to the mac. However, at one point the computer became nonresponsive while the iPod was mounted. Had to force a reboot. The iPod was not recognized after that. I connect it to my mac, it says "connected", but iTunes doesnt recognize this, and it doesnt appear on the desktop.
It works fine. All the music and movies, etc., are there, as well as other data I stored on it (which I also want to get back) (judging from free space indicator), but I can't mount it.
    I've done everything traditionally recommended.
    -Five Rs, numerous times
-Tried with different macs, 10.5.8, 10.6.1, different cables
    -Started iPod in disk mode
-Ran all the diagnostics, they're all fine
    -Played with iTunes helper
    -Reinstalled iTunes
-Tried on completely different macintosh, same problem
For some reason this thing really doesnt want to mount, but when I use the iPod it's clear all the data is right there on it.
Will I have to bust open the iPod and take out the hard drive, and mount it in another enclosure to get my data back? That's the only thing I can think of at this point. Any other ideas?
    Thanks-

    diagnostic shows....

  • IPod Shuffle not recognized on Mac or PC - Help!

So a freind of mine asked me to fix his iPod shuffle. He tried to fix it himself by plugging it into his Windoze PC and formatting it like a hard drive. I explained to him that it probably wasn't a great idea but at any rate, here we are.
I have access to a Mac Mini, and a PC both with the latest version of iTunes and the iPod Updater.
When I plug the iPod shuffle into either the Mac or the PC, it does not show up at all. It does show up in the Device manager of Windows as a Disk Drive but it's not accessible. It proceeds to peg the CPU at 100% and thoroughly bog down the PC. When I plug it into the Mac Mini, and run the iPod Updater, it tells me to "Plug in an iPod to update it." Problem is, the iPod is plugged in. This happens both on Windows and PC when I run the iPod updater.
Does anybody have any idea on what I should do to fix the iPod? I must admit, I've only had the Mac Mini for 1 day and my previous experience with the Mac OS was OS 8.6 on a 6400 so be nice :P.
    Thanks in advance,
    ...tom

  • 3rd generation iPod Touch not recognized by Mac & iTunes!

My 3rd generation ipod touch is not recognized on iTunes but is recognized when I plug it into a different computer. I've tried reinstalling iTunes numerous times and have referred to other online tutorials. With no success, my iPod will still not show up on my Macbook, and I've never experienced a problem like this before with either device. My mac and itunes still recognize my iPhone so I don't know why they would recognize one device but no the other. Solutions?
Any feedback will help greatly. Thanks.

It should work fine.  I have a 1st gen shuffle, and it still works...
If you are updating to iTunes 11.x for the first time, iTunes may hide the sidebar initially, which is where the shuffle appears.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the shuffle should appear under DEVICES.

  • IPod Nano not recognized by Mac (latest software upd), but nano charges

iPod Nano has worked great for the past year and has downloaded music files from the mac with no problems in the past. However, since loading the latest ipod update on my Powerbook G4, which has the latest OS X software, the mac does not recognize the nano. When plugged into the USB port, it charges the nano, but when I go to the iTunes Preferences and click on the ipod icon, it says that no iPod is connected. Is this a wire or hardware problem or a software problem?

No, but this is one of the thoughts I had relative to the problem. The local Apple store does not have any extra cables for the nano and the closest other Apple store is an hour away -- if they have an extra cable!! My guess is that it is a cable problem since I tried it on a PC with iTunes and had the same problem.
    Thank you for yuour thoughts.

  • IPod Nano not recognized by Mac OS 10.3.9

I was given a lovely iPod Nano for Xmas & to my dismay my 4 year old iBook, running OS 10.3.9, popped a message up the screen informing me that I needed OS 10.4.8 or higher. Apart from my displeaure at Apple for this, I have a practical technical problem to solve. I don't suppose there is a shareware solution to this, so I will pass to discussing solutions built around the OS. My iBook G4 dates from November 2003, has 933 GHz of processor power & 640 MB of RAM, the maximum possible. I have been told by a very knowledgeable Mac technician in the UK that OS 10.4 would run faster on my iBook than my present OS 10.3.9, but that Leopard would probably be too taxing, especially since the hard drive is a measly 37 GB with 4 for a maintenance partition, presently leaving only some 8 GB free on the HD. Unfortunately OS 10.4 is no longer on sale in Apple stores or resellers. I could buy it on eBay, but aren't OS's that are bundled with specific models designed to work only on those models, or can I purchase any original OS 10.4 whose owner has passed to Leopard? I'd be grateful for any help you can offer me on this.

Thank you for your input, Catboy, but I fear Leopard will be too taxing for my processor & I know that Tiger is leaner in all respects. I have solved my problem on an immediate basis by going to a friend who has a PC with XP, who inserted my 3 gigs of music onto his iTunes for Microsoft & then downloaded it onto my iPod. So, in this case an Apple product (iPod) could be activated for the benfit of another Apple product (iBook) only by way of a PC running Microsoft XP. That is ironic, but also a bit disgraceful on the part of Apple. It's not as if I were running Puma or Jaguar, which are years out of date. I'm afraid this still sticks in my craw despite Steve Jobs'masterful showmanship at MacWorld Expo.
No one yet has been able to tell me whether versions of Mac OS bundled with a machine are specific to that model of Mac or can be used promiscuously with any Mac with compatible specs. I am very interested in this question, because I plan to pick up a copy of Tiger. I know Apple has pulled Tiger from all their stores & from all dealers, w2hich is going to complicate things for me.
Since I live in Europe, I will see if I can get a copy locally or failing that through eBay in the UK. But I still do need to know the answer to the above question to be sure of compatibility. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

  • IPod Touch not recognized by mac computer

I have just upgraded my os to Leopard and now when I plug in my iPod touch, iTunes does not open, and when I open it, it does not show my iPod.
Can someone tell me how to get my computer to see my ipod.

have had Leopard ever since it came out, this is a problem since the iLife update 2 days ago, iTunes will not recognize my iPod Touch, is reinstalling iTunes the only way to do this? I have been having problems with Mail, too. But, I guess that is a problem for another forum. I think there have been quite a few nifty, but tricky additions to iLife in the last update.

    Hello,
The cord might be the case, but first, try these suggestions:
Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then try connecting it to your computer again...
<a href="How to put your iPod into disk mode</a>
Do you have a wall charger? If so, then try connecting your iPod to that, and does it charge, or not?
Have you checked this link out?:

My iPod is not recognized by my PC nor any other device (GPS suport, loudspeakers, etc). I've restored it, but still is not recognized by any device. Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.

If your iPod does not have volume buttons on the upper left edge or an internal speaker it is a 1G (original iPod) that can be updated as far as 3.1.3
