Ipod is recognized but will not sync ....

Ipod classic 6th generation
itunes latest version
windows 8.1
at first the ipod started copying songs that were already on there. then the ipod started to stop showing some songs, then more and more songs were not showing up on the ipod. then most of the music was gone.
i ended up restoring the ipod back to original settings.
now i have the ipod with nothing on it. itunes and windows both recognize it no problem.
when i hit the sync button in itunes it says "determining what to sync" or something like that. then it does nothing and ejects the ipod from itunes.
any idea what is going on and what i can do to fix it?
thanks
John

You may just need to set up automatic syncing again after the Restore.  If you do not set it up, it will still "sync" but it will sync nothing.
In iTunes, select the iPod so that you see its Summary settings screen (click the "device button" on horizontal bar).  In the iPod's sidebar, under Settings, click Music.  To the right is the iPod's Music settings screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync your iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This enables automatic syncing for songs.  Below that, if your entire iTunes music library fits on your iPod, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select what you want to sync from the lists below.  One convenient way to set this up is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library with songs for the iPod.  Or you can use existing playlists.  On the iPod's Music settings screen, find and select (checkmark) those playlists under Playlists.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs your iPod with your selection(s) on the iPod's Music settings screen, and keeps it "in sync" automatically going forward.

I would understand it if you checked email on your Mac, and then those messages were not available on your iOS devices if you had the advanced account setting "remove copy from server after retrieving message:" set to immediately.
I looked through my iPhone settings and don't even see an option to tell my phone to pull the only copy of a message and delete it from the server.
Possibly there is another setting in Lion (I am running Snow Leopard still) that tells your Mac to only synchronize mail to your iOs devices and is not pulling mail directly from iCloud.
You could try disabling your current iCloud email account in Mac Mail, and adding a new one and just telling Mail it is a standard IMAP account (imap.mail.me.com incoming and smtp.mail.me.com outgoing).
I did that for Leopard to get my email even to work after MobileMe is cancelled and it seems to work fine with my iPhone.
If that doesn't work, you can delete that new email account and re-enable the temporarily disabled iCloud email account from above.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have a new iPod Classic 160Gb.  i have an iTunes Account, it recognizes my device but will not sync my library of music to my new iPod.  What do I need to do?

What do I need to do?

    Hi Amy2250,
Have you tried to sync music to the iPod via the iPod subdirectory of iTunes? To do this, plug your iPod into your computer, go into iTunes, click on the iPod tab, click on 'Music' in the iPod subdirectory and select whether you want to sync your whole iTunes library or just selected songs and press sync.
Alternatively, have you tried manually transferring music onto the iPod using the 'drag and drop' method? To do that, go into iTunes with your iPod connected, click on the iPod tab, in the iTunes iPod Classic subdirectory click on the 'Summary' tab, then tick the box saying 'Manually manage music' and click save. Then, in the same subdirectory click on the 'On this iPod' tab and click on Music. Then, select the songs you want to transfer either in Finder or Windows Explorer, select the songs you want to copy to the iPod and drag them to the blank list in the 'On this iPod' area of iTunes you just opened.
    Good luck,

  • My iTunes recognizes my iPod but will not sync

I just had my hard drive replaced and all my music was salvaged (thankfully). All of it loaded right back into iTunes. However, when I plug in my iPod, it will charge, but will not sync. I have Windows 7 on my computer and it was working fine before.
At this point I'm frustrated and have considered using the "Sync with this iTunes Library" feature, which warns that it will erase what's on my iPod, but will presumably upload the library that exists on my computer now, right? If I do that, I shouldn't lose anything because both are the same, but maybe it will now recognize my iPod? Any suggestions?

Although you used the new USB 3.0 port, the actual connection speed is still USB2.0, as the iPod Dock connector, does not have the 10 times faster USB3.0 signal pins, the connection speed is still 480Mbits/s
I assumed that you have tried the other USB 2.0 port to no success..

  • New ipod suffle 4th gen will not sync with cd import

my new ipod suffle 4th gen will not sync with cd import, through itunes, other computer has no itunes

I'm not sure how the "other computer" is relevant, but on the computer with iTunes, you probably need to update the iPod's settings for automatic syncing, or load the new songs from CD manually.
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The shuffle appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected.  Select it there.  The shuffle's Summary screen is shown to the right.  There is a checkbox for Manually manage music there.  Is that setting currently checked or not checked?
If it is checked, your iPod is set to add and remove songs manually.  It does not use automatic syncing to update content.  This is how to manually add and remove songs from an iPod.
To add songs manually...  Show a song list in iTunes.  For example, select Music under LIBRARY in the sidebar, to show your main music library list.  Drag a song from the song list to the iPod in the sidebar.  You can do this with more than one song selected, such as the songs from that "CD import."  Alternately, right-click on the selection and choose the command Add to Playlist -> [name of your iPod].
To remove songs manually...  Click on the small triangle to the left of the iPod's name (in the sidebar) to drop down its content list, indented below the iPod.  Click on Music there.  The list of songs on the iPod is shown to the right.  Select the song you want to remove and press Delete on the keyboard.  You can do this with more than one song selected.
NOTE:  If Manually manage music is currently not checked, your iPod is set to use automatic syncing.  Please post back for info on setting up or updating the iPod's automatic sync settings.  When automatic syncing is enabled, you make iTunes responsible for keeping your iPod "in sync" with your iTunes library.
