Ipod is unresponsive

So I tried to restore my phone to orig settings. It said that it should take an hour. Went to a black screen with the apple logo on it and a status bar underneth. Once the bar was filled it restarted then now it will only go to a black screen with the apple logo. Wont go any farther! I tired to hold down the hold/power botton to turn off and that dont work. I tried to hold the hold/power buttton and the home button and the screen goes black then turns on back to the same screen! HELP PLEASE what do I do?

Hi, my husbands 1st Gen Nano sounds like it has all the same problems. Black screen, seems to have a flat battery but has been pluggd into my active computer for ten hours now, won't respond to the 5R's, can't be seen by iTunes, also has a buzzing sound in the earphones that sounds a bit like a dying fly!.
I've plugged my own 4th Gen Nano into the power cord I'm using and it does all the right things, so I know it's the 1st Gen that is our problem.
Can anyone (pleeease) help, I'm ready to toss the **** thing...

  • Ipod is unresponsive.  White circle keeps spinning on screen

My sons ipod is unresponsive.  There is a spinning white cirlce in the middle of the screen.  I have tried the reset by holding down the power button and home button but that didn't work.  It shows the apple icon but then goes right back to the spinning white circle.  Please help!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why is my ipod touch unresponsive (black screen)

i have a ipod touch 1 generation 2.2.1 and it just stoped and now it has a black screen and is unresponsive no battery sign telling me to charge or any thing just a black screen i have it on the charger now can you help me

The Genius Bar was no help and told me my iPod was dead. Fortunately I have a friend who has the magic touch with Mac products and he was able to fix my iPod thus:
    1. Hold down the Power and the Home button simultaneously.
    2. When/If the Apple comes back let go of the Power button but continue to hold down the Home button.
    3. iPod is aliiiiiiive!
We also to the extra, precautionary step of reinstalling the latest OS and not restoring from back up. I had to reinstall my apps and then set them back up, however my iPod is now running as quickly as it did when I first purchased it. (It had been running slower and slower with every OS update until it would take several seconds for the keyboard to even come up, let alone accept entry.)
    Best of luck!

  • 5th gen iPod wheel unresponsive

5th generation ipod, spent most of it's life in a dock.  Plays fine in dock through remote.  Today took it off dock to use with headphones and it does nothing.  The wheel clicks but nothing happens.  Toggled hold, did 'select' and 'menu' to reset, but still nothing what gives?

I don't have anything else, as a remedy...  odd that the click wheel is generally unresponsive, EXCEPT for those two buttons when you do a reset.
The fact that your iPod's hard drive (plus everything except click wheel) is fully functional gives your iPod some value.  You can sell it on eBay as broken, with a working hard drive.  Most iPods (with a hard drive) that are broken, are broken because of a bad hard drive; someone will want it, just for the working hard drive.  OR, you can look for an iPod (of the same type) with a broken hard drive, and swap in your iPod's hard drive.  OR, find one with a working click wheel, to replace your iPod's broken click wheel.  OR, you can buy a mini- hard drive case (sold on eBay) for the iPod's 1.8-inch "ZIF" hard drive, and use it as a tiny external USB drive.
This web site has instructions for taking iPods apart

and there are probably also YouTube demo videos.

  • IPod nano unresponsive to ANYTHING except shuffle-shake

My iPod nano 3rd gen 4gb became unresponsive to anything yesterday. Tried pressing center button & menu--nothing. Tried toggling hold on and off--nothing. It will only respond to shaking to engage the shuffle. Computer does not recognize the iPod, iPod does not indicate that it's connected to the computer. PLEASE HELP.

How long did you hold the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together on the Nano to let it try and reset?  It can take anywhere from a few second up to a minute. So go ahead and give it another shot or two.
Otherwise, you may need to let the iPod's battery fully drain.  Then charge it back up and restore in iTunes if necessary.

  • My ipod is unresponsive so i cant put in code, so i can connect to itunes

dropped 3rd gen ipod touch in water, it looks ok, but its unresponsive. I've connected to itunes and restored like it says than it says in recovery mode, restore. Can it be fixed?

If yo still have the problem, including not being able to restore the iPod, after restoring to factory settings/new iPod that indicates a hardware problem.

  • 3rd gen ipod touch unresponsive to touch

My Ipod touch recently has stopped responding to touch, all the other buttons work on it. What could it be?

    Welcome to the discussions,
did you already try to reset your device by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes up again? If this does not work, a restore to factory settings will be the next step.
To make sure you're not restoring damaged files, don't use your backup after that to restore your data and settings.

  • IPod Shuffle 3rd Gen fully charged, blinks orange five times and I can't control it with the remote (I used 3 different remotes), volume is low and is iPod is unresponsive... any ideas on how to fix it?

The iPod was working fine, then after about 45 minutes of use i looked as if battery drained.
I charged it fully again (until green light) and then turned it on, green light and then orange light blinks five times...
I can't play /pause, or turn volume up or down from the remote... tried with original Apple earphones, and two Bose MIE2i (original and sports models)...
Any ideas of what can be wrong? or how can I fix it?
Already tried restoring it to factory settings.... it didn't solved the problem...

  • I tried to reload my Ipod touch.  I accidently selected "start new ipod" icon on the Ipod and then "back up existing ipod" on Itunes.  Now the Ipod is unresponsive, constantly shutting down and restarting.  Even after multiple "forced" shut downs.  Help!

After updating the os, I tried to shut down, clear and reload my Ipod touch.  Here's where I goofed:  at the prompt for starting the reload process, I selected "start as new Ipod" on the Ipod, but in Itunes, I selected " back up existing Ipod from computer" or something like that.  Now the ipod is constantly shutting down and restarting and no controls can be accessed.  All I can do is the "forced shut down" which I have done multiple times and let sit for a half hour off.

Disregard,  hooked up to itunes and clicked on summary, selected restore, all is well.

  • My ipod is unresponsive, with a white screen that won't go away?

My ipod was working fine and then within an hour or so it froze and turned to a blank white and hasn't gone away since. Please help me solve this problem.

Let the batttey fully drain. After charging for an hour try a reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
The try a restore if necessary.

  • Right margin (1/2") of iPod screen unresponsive to touch-Fix?

the right margin (about 1/2" inch) of my iPod 4th gen doesn't respond to touch. Anyone know why - anyone suggest a fix? Already tried a "restore" - it didn't work. However, for a brief while yesterday it was responsive. Now it's not again.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
