IPod isn't recognized by computer/OTHER iPod is frozen...

Okay, so I have two iPod touches. One of them (thanks to my little sister) got ran over by a car, and is badly cracked. But it still worked perfectly fine, except the ear bud jack needs to be messed with to work. Either way, my sister got one of the iPods ran over by a car, and it still worked for MONTHS after, but one day I turned it on and the touch froze. Like, the touch froze as in the "slide to unlock" won't work, but if I press the "home" button twice, it'll bring up my player and I can still make it play music. My background is now a picture of what looks like a rainy window. I would assume maybe this is water damage, but I haven't had my iPod in any water whatsoever.
The other iPod is perfect, only has a problem with the earbud jack.
But for some reason, my perfectly good, barely used charger won't work with my computer. It works on my dad's computer fine, but on mine, it won't. Yet, my friend brought her charger in which the plastic around the part that plugs into the iPod was gone, and the part was barely hanging on, and it charged. Anyone wanna help me?

yes, i've installed the software and i've followed the directions. i have an ipod mini- i've done all of this before. nothing new.
charging. well, that's the whole problem now, isn't it? if the computer cannot recognize that i've plugged new hardware into it, it definetly won't send power to it, hmm? i had been plugged into my computer for about 3 hours, and NOTHING happened. so the answer: no. i haven't fully charged the d%#$ thing. i haven't been ABLE to do so.
uh, yeah, i know that i'm a human being. well actually, i could be some deranged mutant alien from mars, but how would you ever know?? ...wow... latex gloves? sounds like a possibility. i'll be sure to tell anyone who asks me about why i'm wearing them, i'll let them know it was you. thank you for the brilliant idea. har har har. oh- and how could i keep the clear film on the ipod if it actually came off after putting it into the lame, sorry excuse for a "case" that they give you?
i declare my ipod officially: dead. thanks for the help, though. latex gloves, man. rock on.
i'm returning it because it's defective.

  • Please help!  My ipod isn't recognized by computer or itunes

Thank you in advance for reading this, I'm about to lose it. I have spent 12 hours trying fix my problem, and nothing seems to work. I did everything suggested by the apple site, and other misc. sites out there.
Last week I put music on my ipod video just fine. Then, yesterday, I plugged in my ipod to my computer, and nothing happened. It still charges it, but that's it. It won't show up in itunes or my computer.
The only thing that is different from last week than this week, is I have traveled on a plane (hopefully the security people didn't zap it), and also, I purchased an ipod docking station (called iBlaster)....do you think that has anything to do with this?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm about to blow up!
    Thanks you all!

    Hi,
I'd been really frustrated with ITunes not recognizing my IPod after failed attempts at using the "5Rs" to resove the issue. I just wanted you guys to know that I found a resolution posted under http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1372 and after following the instructions, I "forced" ITunes to recognize the Pod and it is right now, as we speak, syncing my entire library back to the IPod! THANK YOU to whomever posted this solution! I was so lost without my IPod and was about to go on a trip without it! Whew! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ipod isn't recognized by computer (or itunes)

i received an ipod video for christmas. i was excited, but so far, i'm not impressed. i turned it on, and a little sad icon showed up with the apple support website link underneath. a problem? already? i just turned it on! so i decided to plug the ipod into my laptop computer. my laptop won't recognize the ipod, and thus, neither does the ipod update software. all that the ipod does is cycle through this pattern: screen with apple logo, screen with sad ipod icon, and battery screen (the battery is frozen, though. it doesn't indicate that the battery is actually charging). while this pattern cycles, occasionally i hear an annoying clicking noise. *click click click click click* is this sound from the hardware within the ipod? i don't want to have to listen to it all the time. i'm also disappointed with how easily my fingerprints cover the ipod, front and back. i'm afraid i'll scratch it... so at the moment, i want to return it to the apple store. what is happening to my ipod? what's wrong with it??
    these ipods are very tempramental...
    thank you

  • Ipod isn't recognized by computer

OK I have a problem with my 60 Gb ipod on two OS. First Windows XP won't recognize my ipod. I'll plug my ipod in and it will go into do not disconnect mode. the computer will attempt to establish a connection but then it says that it doesnt recognize the ipod. how do i format it or restore it. Or second, I plug it into my linux computer and there appears to be a connection, the ipod says do not disconnect and it charges, however it doesnt mount, and i can't access it. Can someone please help me with either one of these OSes. either formatting or restoring with windows or getting it to work with linux again. Note: the problem with linux occured after my ipod's battery ran down real low, and now when i turn it on it appears to have no files on it.

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help with Windows, I'm afraid I don't know of any similar pages for Linux:

  • Ipod nano 6th generation isn't recognized by computer or iTunes

computer doesn't recognize ipod nano 6th generation

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • IPod 120gb isn't recognized by computer and keeps resetting itself

I have a iPod Classic 120gb and it has been playing up for nearly a year now so I gave up on it. The other day I got it out and started to try and fix it again, but still haven't had any luck.  It constantly restarts itself and only occasionaly tells me to conect it cause it needs to be restored on itunes, however when I plug it my computer doesn't recognise it (or if it does and I try to restore I get an error message (1933 i think)).  I have even tried to use Disk Utilities and it can never finish reformating or erasing my ipod.
Strangely my iPod often seems to think it is in Disk Mode also, and I have no idea why.  I have searched online but haven't found andy help and I have looked on many sites but none of the standard tricks seem to work, i.e. the 5R's.
Anyone had trouble like this in the past?
    NEED HELP URGENTLY!

My apologies. if my urgent help is 1 week old and you have already solved your problems, by throwing it out of the window.
After recharging it for at least 2 hours, do the iPod Disk Diagnostics, as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem but helps in troubleshooting.
The report, may tell us if it is recoverable using Disk Utility Erase, or have to replace the hardisk.

  • IPod Classic isn't recognized causes computer to restart

I recently purchased an iPod classic after having another iPod for about 3 years. My new iPod worked perfectly until a few days ago, when I was listening to it and it froze. I turned it off and on again, but I kept getting the Apple logo and it froze there too. I plugged in it to my computer, and I tried to restore the iPod to the factory settings. After many attempts, it finally worked, and now everytime I try to plug the iPod in to sync it I get a blue screen on my computer (windows) and it restarts itself. Also when this happens, the words on my iPod are random letters (for example, where it should say "Playlists" it says "ehfhtk" and so on). Please help me if you can, I don't know what I can do about this. Thanks.

  • Nano isn't recognized by computer and won't charge via USB port

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with a couple of my Nanos and I can't figure out/find a remedy for it. The Nanos aren't recognized by the computer, nor do they charge when I plug them into the computer with the USB cable. They do charge when I use a FireWire cable, but the computer still doesn't recognize them. They do turn on when I connect the USB to them, so something is "connecting". Is this a hardware issue? Many people have had success with resetting the iPod, but I've had no luck with that. Thanks for any help.

im in the same boat as you man, i got mine from a friend at school, and after a month of having it, my computer wont recognize it anymore. it palys jsut fine, noting malfunctions, it will even charge( with some protest...), but itunes nor the computer even knows its there...
ive hunted dozons znd dozons of help forums and still cant find a solution that works.
should i jsut give up the ghost and get a new one...?
id really hate to think that all this effort is wasted and that apple cant offer us a simple solution of somesort atleast.
and the 5r's is BS and does nothing everytime i try it.
Does Anyone have ANYTHING usful to offer us?!
    im crossing my fingers...

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip Won't Turn On and Isn't Recognized by Computer

Hi, Newbie here with my first question. I've had my Clip Zip for four years and it recently ran out of juice while listening to a song. I plugged it into my car charger for a recharge, but the device would did not turn on as usual, nor was it detected by my PC when I got to work. Here is what I have tried so far: 1) Plugging it into other PCs (five of 'em).2) Holding the power button down for 20 seconds to reset it. (while disconnected from PC).3) Holding the power button down for over one minute to reset it.4) Holding down the power button and the center button at the same time for 20 seconds. When that didn't work, I tried again, this time for over a minute. Then I tried holding down the power button, then the center button a second afterwards, again as above.5) Holding down the power button and the return button at the same time, as 4.6) Trying to put it into MSC mode.7) Checking the device drivers via Device Manager, but it still wasn't detected by my PC. (I followed the intructions in this article for 6. and 7.: http://hubpages.com/hub/Troubleshooting-SanDisk-Sansa-Clip-Zip-MP3-Player-Problems) Thinking it was perhaps a faulty USB cable, I bought a new one. Still won't turn on. Tried everything as above - again. Still won't turn on. Tried this suggestion from another forumite: Koto SanDisk UserPosts: 63Registered: ‎03-21-2012  0  Re: froze and now it won't turn on[ Edited ] Options ‎05-01-2012 03:33 PM - edited ‎05-01-2012 03:36 PM Hold the Power Button over 20 Seconds. Leave the Power Button and press Again!. This Reset the Player. The leave and Again is important. Have the Player Akku Power?Plug the Player 30 Minutes on the PC to load and repeat Reset Method. But it still won't turn or be recognized!  Does anyone have any suggestions, or is it kaputski? Four years seems a depressingly short shelf life for an MP3 player. Thanks, Mino

As I'm not keen on spending more money on a device that may no longer work again, can I assume that I could try the same thing but just keep it plugged into my PC?
Sure, this is just a measure that some people sometimes have found success with.  With your PC, just make sure that the PC is on or that the USB port is still providing power/charging when the PC is off.

  • Ipod isn't recognized by itunes and computer but it still charges

i've tried a hard reset but that didn't do anything.
when i plug it into my computer i get a message saying that the USB device isn't recognized.
so, when i look at it in device manager the ipod shows up as a unknown device
and the device status says "there are no drivers installed for this device".
    anybody know what to do?

Your iPod's battery may not be charged. Plug your iPod in, wait for a moment, press a button to turn it on, and check the screen. Here are some easy steps to get the most out of your battery. Note: On recent iPod models, when the battery is completely empty, your computer may not recognize your iPod for up to 30 minutes even though it's connected and charging.

  • My ipod isn't recognized by any computer & itunes, and desplays a sad face.

i have had my ipod mini for eleven months and this is the first problem i have had with it.
i went on a vacation to flordia, and while i was there my ipod crashed. i had dropped it once a few days before the crash, but it continued to play my music after i dropped it.
when i go to turn it on the apple logo appears, then the depressed ipod.
my ipod isn't recognized by any computer or tunes. when i plug it into my computer, the 'do not disconnect' screen doesn't even appear. all that happens is the apple logo screen, then the depressed ipod screen, then a recharging screen appears that is stuck on the lowest point possible.
i have already tried the "five R's" and everything else in the support pages, and so far they have helped me none. all they do is bring you around in huge circles, and you end up on the page you started on.
i run a windows xp, and have everything fully upgraded.
i know, i know, many of you are having similar problems, but could you please only post if you have an answer, thanks.

I know!!! It worked just fine one day, computer recognized it and i could add or remove songs at me leisure, but now I can't even charge it on a computer becasue it doesn't exsist to it. I also tried the five steps, but you can't restore the settings on it if the computer can't find it. Finally I had my sister bending the charge piece in the ipod just for it to show up, I restored it and it didn't make a bit of difference! I lost all 800 songs on it but I still can't charge it or add songs. If you find anything out, let me know!!!
