Ipod issues ?

I'm trying to update my ipod, but when I plug it and it starts to update mssage appears saying :
itunes:iTunes.exe-corrupt file
the file or directory\ipod_control\iTunes\iTunesprefs is corrupt and unreadable-please run the chkdsk utiliy. Though there are songs on the i Tunes but my ipod is empty. I've got 60GB Vidoe ipod.

Ipod or nike ipod issue

Hi all. I have a problem with my ipod and don't know if it's the ipod, the usb, the nike receiver, the nike sensor or what. I turned it on today to do my workout. As usual, the voice told me to walk around to activate the shoe sensor. But nothing activates, the ipod says, "No Sensor" and everything on the ipod screen is frozen. Can't even turn the ipod off. So I disconnected the nike receiver, tried to connect to my laptop with the USB and resynch it, but still everything is frozen. Any ideas - now it seems like an ipod issue - not just a nike sensor issue. Thanks much for any advice.

I have same problem. I complete 2 or 3 a day but the ipod only keeps info for the last workout. So when you download onto Nike+ you lose all but the latest workout. I can find no way of saving individual workouts on the ipod (3rd generation) at the end of each workout. Nothing on the Apple website on this.

20GB Clickwheel iPod Issues

So, I've had this lovely thing for a few years now and it has worked quite well. Today in the middle of a workout, it just stops. I tried resetting it, no go. All it does is bring the Apple logo up (like its starting) then it will go to either the iPod with the unhappy face or the folder icon and it says below: "www.apple.com/support/ipod"
I tried connecting it to its computer, no go. Power source, no go. It continues to stop in its starting up phase.
Anyone have any ideas?

B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
Tips
a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

Advance Level
A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

About the" Can't mount Ipod" issue

It seems like many people have the problem of "Can't mount Ipod"issue.Just curious, for the people that has window XP,did you guys recently updated your computers?

I'm having the same exact problem with mine. It takes a couple of times for me to get it in disk mode, but when I do, I connect it to my computer and the same thing happens each time: "Can't mount iPod"!

IPod Issue-USB Device Not Recognized

Hello. I am having continuous issues on and off with my iPod and syncing it to Windows.
PC info:
PC, Windows Vista, No Service Pack enabled, iPod 6th generation (classic-80gb).
The error message states as follows:
If anybody can provide assistance with this issue, I'd be very happy. Please note that I have, in fact, consulted other forums and topic about this issue and none of the ones that I selected or viewed discussed my issue. In fact, I did not find that it had been addressed at all.

Stratplayer - first thing you need to seriously consider is applying SP1 to your installation of Vista. The service pack has unquestionably added stability to the operating system. Among the things the service pack does is update many of the system drivers (though I do not know for a fact if the USB drivers are updated). Have you tried using different USB ports? Do you have better luck with some ports over others? You do not mention the type of PC you have, but have you contacted the manufacturer about this issue since you state you have problems with other USB devices as well?

IPod Issue. How can I get my data?

I have a white ipod that can only watch music, it isn't that modern and it has 20 GB, and here is the story
I got an ipod from my dad that is sort of old, but I used it and for 3 months now, it worked fine. Yesturday, it froze and when I reset it, it showed a folder with an exclamation point. That error told me to visit the apple website, and they told me to charge it, which I did and it still doesn't work. So they suggestion to restart, restore, reinstall, reset, retry.
Restarting my computer and reinstalling itunes was pointless for me.
The reset option didn't work and t he only option is to restore it, but the issue would eventually haunt the ipod again.
When I connect it into my computer, it says it is corrupted. When I leave it off for a while, it works like normal, but freezes a bit, and skips 95% of my songs.
I use it as a backup drive to save my data on and I need to access it.
Is there a way I can get to the files to save them on my computer, get it to work without having to restore it, or having to get a program that can fix it or be able toa ccess it even though it won't show in finder.
If you help me, I will give you a best answer big time and do not say to restore the ipod, which I will not do unless I can access my stuff.
The stuff is still in there, it isn't gone, and I want to have a chance to get it before it is too late.

if I understand you right, you don't want to restore your iPod because you have data on it that you cannot afford to loose. So that means we have to find a way to access the data, back it up and then restore the iPod. I don't think you'll get away without restoring the iPod, because it seems your iPod has real issues. It could even be that the hard drive is dying, something that cannot be fixed at all (except for putting in a new hard drive).
You say, your iPod does not show up in the finder. Does it show up in iTunes? If so go to the iPod in the source list and under options enable "Disk use", eject it, reconnect it and check if it shows up in finder.
If not, it gets pretty complicated. Reset your iPod. When you see the Apple Logo press the Fast Forward and Rewind button simultaneously. This forces the iPod into disk mode and it should mount now.
If this doesn't work, check Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility and look if you find your iPod. Click Verify and if needed Repair. If this doesn't work out, your last resort is a file system repair via Terminal.
Let me know if you get that far, and we'll try to help with the Terminal.
If at any point you can access your data, back it up to a safe location! Once you have done so, it might be time to restore the iPod. Then copy everything back to the iPod and you are good to go.

Ipod issues after switching from PC to Mac

I finally got my music library and songs moved to the new Intel Mac using the ipod and all is synced up again, however the ipod now moves considerably slower than it used to. Sometimes it takes up to 10 seconds to skip to the next track.
My questions are:
1) Would a restore from the new Mac make things run smoother?
2) If so, before I do, I have more files on the PC I'd like to move over, so I need to complete that first, right?
3) Some of these files on the PC are very large (1-5GB), is that a problem to move them using the ipod?

2. You can use a product such as MacDrive to read Mac formatted disks on a PC.
3. The FAT32 disk format used by a Windows iPod cannot accomodate files larger than 4GB regardless of the capacity of the drive; either put it in the Mac format and use MacDrive, or compress larger files before putting them onto the iPod. There is no issue with smaller files.

HT1386 Syncing iTunes with iPod issues...

When I sync my iPod touch with iTunes it does not organize my music correctly. For example under one artist only one album will be shown when actually I have three in iTunes. But when I look under the albums category they all appear. How can I fix this?

There aren't any issues with the new iTunes. You need the most recent iTunes to sync your iPod

Two iPod issues

Bought this for my son and the unit has developed a couple of issues...wondered if you've had the same and did Apple repair the unit without a fuss.
The scroll wheel buttong work in all but the 'backwards' selection. It responds in perhaps 1 in 10 times it's pressed. Had a frustrating conversation with Apple moments ago and have now logged a repair entire unit request on their website.
That's item 1.
Second issue is the earphones - my son has the noise limiter function switched on so his ear drums don't blow, but whatever the volume level the earphones distort. When you insert any other earphones the sound is fine, no distortion. Is this a common fault with these earphones?

I think that if your iPod has a problem with the click wheel the only way is to go to your nearest Apple Store or as you already did, contact Apple Support.
Considering the second issue I had the same problem with my earphones (I had a 1st gen iPod mini). The solution was: I went to an Apple Store and I asked for support; they checked if my iPod was under warranty (it was) and so they have requested another pair of earphones directly from Apple... 3-4 days after I had my new earphones.

ICal Syncing w/iPod Issues

I am unable to get my iCalendars to appears on my iPod. Here's are my settings and what I did to troubleshoot the issue.
- iPod settings in iTunes - option checked to sync calendars
- .Mac enabled with Calendar sync'ing enabled
- latest software updates - now at 10.4.6
- did a fresh install of the entire operating system. Yes, I wiped my hard drive clean.
- restored the iPod to factory settings
- did a clean install of all songs, photos, contacts, etc. onto iPod using relevant iTunes settings
Summary:
Nothing has worked. Are others seeing this issue? With these issues be resolved in the upcoming 10.4.7. release?

I've played around with it quite a bit more now and I think I have an idea of why it may have had a problem before. I was changing events in iCal and then wanting them to show up on the iPod. The problem is that I was checking them almost immediately after ejecting. Sometimes the calendars wouldn't be there at all. If I went back out of Calendars on the iPod, waited a few seconds to a few minutes and then went back in nothing would be there still. Just now what I did differently is wait about 10 seconds or so before even going into the Calendars on my Nano. Now they show up every time. Looks to me like it is jus the processor in the iPod needs some time to process the calendar data before it can show it and if you don't give it that time it convinces itself that nothing is in there. This may not be useful to anyone else, but at least it is working for me so I am happy.

Sony Head Unit and iPod Issue

I just got the Sony Xplod CDX GT620IP head unit installed the other day and I'm pretty happy with it. The only problem is that I have the iPod Ready Feature (allows you to control iPod through the head unit). I plan on keeping an iPod in the glove compartment so that I have a hard drive full of music waiting in the car. However, when I turn the head unit and car off, the iPod is in the idle state, but displays "You may safely disconnect the device" even though the head unit no longer powers the iPod. When everything is off, the iPod will remain on until the battery dies out or if it's unplugged. I don't want to unplug the iPod, I just want it to shut down when the unit is turned off. Is there a way to fix this?
EDIT: I have an iPod Nano, iPod Video, and the iPod touch, all of which experience the same problems (not turning off).If you have solutions for any of them, I'd be happy to know. Thanks in advance.

Just signed up to these forums having done a google search for this same problem! I'm in the UK and this is affecting my 2008 CDE-9880R in exactly the same way Adrian describes - highly annoying having purchased this unit to avoid this kind of problem! So much for an Alpine/Apple collaboration!
I am currently resorting to the 'pause' function on the headunit before keying off the ignition. Although I spoke to an Alpine tech guy at Alpine UK on the phone today and he is sending out another small lead that apparently goes inline with the current lead. He mentioned something about the headunit not recognising 80gb classics properly??? Not sure whether this will fix the problem but I'll keep you posted. I think a firmware issue is more likely to be the problem. At least Alpine seem to be aware of the problem and not just fobbing people off.

Alright, so heres the break down.
iPod Video 30g Model
It has issues but I'll explain them after because they persist.
First of all it only formats with error 50% of the time.
When it boots up it takes atleast 3 times longer then any of my friends, and when I put my ear to listen mine in a constant state of clicking which is also unlike my friends. ( This is leading me to believe that the HDD is failing. )
Ok so after I manage to format it and wait for it to finally boot up, all that shows up is "settings".
If I format it puts all the things on the top menu but everytime I put it to sleep and turn it back on it takes everything off the main menu and ALSO puts some rediculously low volume limit.
It's just a endless cycle of resetting and restoring, if theres anything, anyone can think of I'd appreciate it, if not I'm brining it into a store tommorow.

Do you mean that you are having problems sorting Podcasts in your iTunes library? If so, try the (Podcasts) Lists view, where programmes are sorted in correct alphabetical order, and with the episodes shown under the programme heading.

A few iPod issues (possibly Vista related)

In the past few weeks, my iPod (80GB 5G) has been acting awfully strange, for a few reasons:
- When I try to update it, iTunes (v7.0.2) gives me the error: "Attempting to copy to the disk "IPOD" failed. An unknown error occured (-69). On occasion, it appears to update normally, but when I check the iPod's contents, it's missing several hundred songs.
- When I try to restore the iPod to factory settings with the 'Restore' button, I get the error message "The iPod software update server could not be contacted."
It seems very possible that these errors are due to the fact that I upgraded to Windows Vista around the time I started noticing these issues. Since the Vista knowledge base doesn't seem to address these specific issues, I'm not fully convinced that this is the case. So...I'm at a loss. Can anyone help me?

An update to iTunes is expected fairly soon. The next version will natively support Vista.
About the update server cannot be contacted: that error could be caused by a network setting. See the following article for more information: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304468. I'm not sure if the windows will look the same in Vista (haven't had a chance to lay hands on it yet...I also have PCs in the house), but it gives you a rough idea. Hope this helps.

My iPod issues.

I have some songs in my itunes ipod folder that arnt appearing on my iPod. I think it may be because of the file being "MPEG Audio" if so how do i convert it to "ACC" format. Also what is the average battery life of a 5th Generation iPod?

"MPEG Audio" are mp3-files, therefore this shouldn't be the issue. Do you get any error message, telling that certain tracks could not be copied? If no, the sollution might be rather simple, see if all the checkboxes next to the songs in question are checked. Also check the iPod settings, there I'd expect the "bug" to be there.
The battery life depends on your iPod usage, check this link for further info.
