IPod/iTunes error message

I bought a song on iTunes the other day. It downloaded on my iPod correctly. I was able to listen to the song from my iPod without any problems. Today when I plugged in my iPod, iTunes came up with the following message:
"[song title] was not copied to [iPod name] because you are not authorized to play it on this computer."
So, I authorized my computer. I don't understand why this happened.

Go to your computer's System Tray and try ejecting.  If you can't eject, there is an application that is trying to access your iPod.
Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx and download ProcessExplorer.
Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555665 and follow the instructions under Resolution.
Note that this is a good, general process any time you can't access any file.
In my case an update to RealPlayer installed a program called RecordingManager that was accessing my iPod.

  • IPod/iTunes Error Messages

One night after resetting my iPod (because it was stuck), it I had 0 songs, 0 podcasts, 0 videos, you get the message. However, it still showed the iPod to be 3/4 full. I went to iTunes and restored it, and now it won't take more than 20 gigs. If I end it before that, it plays ok. If I let it go past that amount I get the following error messages: ATTEMPTING TO COPY TO DISK "SCOTT" FAILED. THE DISK COULD NOT BE READ FROM OR WRITTEN TO. Then it says: THE iPod "SCOTT" CANNOT BE SYNCED. AN UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURRED. (-1303).
Anybody have any ideas? Is there damage on the hard drive? Do I need to replace it, it's only 6 months old. Would the Apple store be able to erase the hard drive better than iTunes can?
    Thanks.

Apple stores can restore the iPod on their computers... you'd have to restore it again on your own computer to reformat it for use with Windows once you got it home.
Have you tried changing the iPod's drive letter?

  • IPod Nano Error Message (-48)

I've just got my NEW iPod Nano (Red 4GB) out of the box and when I connected it to iTunes I keep getting the Error Message "Unable to update iPod Bob Error Message (-48)."
Despite the (-48) Error Message the iPod does seemingly update Songs/Photos etc.
I have got a 60GB Video iPod and a new Black iPod Nano (8GB) and have no problems with either of them.
Does anyone know what Error (-48) is????
    Thank you in advance!
    Bob

I have just got back from the Regent Street Apple Store - the trip took 5 hours (I live way outside of London) and cost £35 in fares (thanks Apple!)
I met with a guy from the iPod Genius Bar - and there is indeed a "problem" with Error (-48) which Apple are fully aware of. I took my iPod Nano (4GB Red) which DOES have this problem and my iPod Nano (8GB Black) which does not PLUS my iBook so the guys at Apple could see for themselves the problem I am having.
It seems they are aware of the problem - but could offer NO solution at this time and Apple are definaitely working it! They took data dumps of my iTunes / Mac Configuration etc. and details of both Black and Red iPods (serial numbers etc.)
They were very helpful - and advised me to keep the Red 4GB and sit tight until the Update/Patch to solve the problem is available from Apple.
I was one of MANY turning up at the Genius Bar that day with the SAME problem!
So - there are no quick / sure solutions to this one - I guess we have to wait for Apple to release the fix.

  • ITunes error message -39

    Hi,
I'm running an eMac 10.3.9, iTunes 6.0.4 and an iPod 30gb photo.
I started having problems a few days before the latest iTunes update came out earlier this week, with iTunes not quitting and it not being able to find the library.
Now with the iTunes update, I get the error message
"the iPod cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-39)"
I have run Disk Warrior 3.0.3 over the disk and the iPod with no change.
I have run Onyx and Yasu to reset permissions, cron etc etc. with no change.
There is no reference to iPod/iTunes error -39 on the Apple website nor in this forum.
I have changed USB ports with no change.
The iPod appears in the iTunes menu and the battery charges. I can also open the iPod disk and work with the contents.
I have reset the iPod with no change. I used the 'hold the central button and Menu at the same time' trick, so could go one step further and delete everything from the iPod and start again.
But that is assuming the problem is with the iPod. If the problem is with iTunes I won't be able to reload all my songs onto the iPod.
    Any hints appreciated.
    Tim
    eMac 1.25gHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Problem resolved by restoring iPod to factory settings and reloading all the songs.
Prior to this I deleted iTunes and downloaded a new version from the Apple site. This did not resolve the error -39 message.
Then I took the plunge and restored the iPod. Works fine now.
I'm posting the fix to help anyone into the future with the same problem.

    Hi Bander Bunny!
I have a couple of articles that should be able to help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes first. This has to be done in a specific manner, and this article can help you do that:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Another option is that you may want to try syncing your iPod nano manually. Here's is an article that pertains to manually managing the content of your iPod nano:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
It's also possible that this issue resides with your iPod nano. Here is a website that will help you troubleshoot the iPod nano:

  • Every time I plug in my ipod an error message 42404

Every time I plug in my ipod an error message 42404. I have un and re installed itunes over 5 time and I have re set the factory setting on my ipod so now I dont have any music on it at all. Help please.

    Hello Rach 27,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to sync your iPod nano.  I recommend following the link in step 2 below for Error 42404:
    "Error 42023" through "Error 42408"
These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
    Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.

  • ITunes error message - "video format is not supported by the iPad" My video is mp4, mpeg-4.

When syncing my iPad 2....  Why do I get this iTunes error message? "video format is not supported by the iPad"
My video is mp4, another is mpeg-4.
I thought the iPad 2 could play almost any format.

    Must conform to these specs:
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Or download an alternate video player, such as avplayerhd.

  • I upgraded my iphone 5 to iOS 8 and now i get an itunes error message when I try to sync "this iphone cannot be synced. Unknown error.

I upgraded my iphone 5 to iOS 8 and now i get an itunes error message when I try to sync "this iphone cannot be synced. Unknown error. (-50). my icloud drive was stuck in an upgrade cycle, but i've stopped that and still get the error message.

I restarted itunes and tried again (based on a similar question/solution from 2012).
I don't get the error message anymore, but it's really sort of odd that after step one of sync, it looks as if sync stopped, and then all of a sudden you see step 4 of sync.
Also before the upgrade I had 7+ gigs of space free and after the upgrade I have 10 gigs free. seems like something is amiss, but it's not like I have anyway of determining that.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

iTunes Error Message 'The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50).  How do I correct this error?

I know this doesn't help you Bud, but I've had this issue for at least the last couple of versions.  If I can ask, what is you enviornment like?  Local PC only, libray saved on another PC/Server?
In my case my library is on Windows 2003 server with the share mapped to drive M:  This has worked for many years through both XP and Windows 7 until and update a while ago.
    Thanks,
