ipod video   Windows XP

I'm having exactly the same problem. I connected my iPod (video, 60gb) into my G5iMac to power up the battery, and iMusic didn't recognize it, and now it's completely stuck in the "Do Not Disconnect" mode. I tried to reset it, but it's still stuck. I have it charging via a wall outlet, but it doesn't appear to be charging. It worked fine up until today. Help!

My ipod was connected to my laptop and in the 'Do not Disconnect' mode.  My computer rebooted after security scan and now my iPod is stuck in the 'Do not Disconnect' mode.  The iPod will not turn off, nor will my itunes recognize it is connect.

Try a hard reset of the iPod.  To do this, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • IPod frozen in Do Not Disconnect mode

My iPod froze as I was updating it. I could not get it out of Do Not Disconnect mode. I had to disconnect it. Now it is stuck in that mode and my Mac won't recognise it when I lug it in. I have tried holding down the menu and select buttons, but nothing. I want to reset it but can't get the computer to recognise that it is there. Any help gratefully recieved

There is a lot of that going around. The first thing I would try is launching Disk Utility and "verify" the iPod to see if it reports any problems. If it does, you will probably need to restore your iPod.

  • Ipod stuck in DO NOT Disconnect mode, will not eject from itunes

I just got this thing replaced, my Ipod can't disconnect from my computer! It is in DO NOT disconnect mode, I try to eject it from itunes and it says that files are being used by another application, I log out of my computer and it still won't let it go

So the iPod remains in My Computer and in iTunes and won't disconnect? You should try shutting down or restarting your computer.
Or does it disappear from My Computer and iTunes but still says Do Not Disconnect? » http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93492

  • IPod stuck in Do Not Disconnect mode

I plugged in iPod in this evening and after a few mintued iTunes did not start up. I restarted the machine and still nothing.
Shut the machine down and disconnected it from the computer and now the iPod only has the Do Not Disconnect displayed on the screen.
I've tried resetting it but it's also stuck in hold mode. I've toggled the hold switch and no change.
I've tried connecting to different USB ports, different computers, and different dock cable but no change.
    Any suggestions?

I have been having the same problem as the OP and would ususally just let the ipod run out its battery. Seeing as this means you have no ipod for about a day I came on these forums. I didn't know how to reset the ipod until reading this thread and it worked for me. I was just wondering if there is a way to aviod the ipod hardlocking in the first place, its only started happening after I reformatted it from pc to mac.
    thanks.

  • My Ipod 30gig is stuck in the "Do Not Disconnect" mode

i plugged it into my macbook pro, and noticed after a while that my ipod never mounted. i looked at the ipod screen and it was in the "do not disconnect" stage. so i waited. then i went to "file" then "sync to my ipod" but the option was grey'ed out. so i restarted my computer. the ipod just stayed in the "do not disconnect" mode as the computer rebooted, and did not mount. none of the ipods buttons do anything. it does not go to sleep.

Argh, mine does that too. I would also really love a solution on this one, so therefor i'm bumping this thread

  • IPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even when set to automatic.

iPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even though iTunes says "Update is Complete" and even when set to automatic update. It mounts both in iTunes and on the Desktop.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I have alredy tried rebooting both the iPod and computer.
    Thanks.

    Patrick,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Sounds like you've got Disk Use enabled. Try unchecking the Box "Enable Disk Use" under iTunes>Preferences>iPod Tab.

  • IPOD *ALWAYS* flashes DO NOT DISCONNECT

IPOD ALWAYS flashes DO NOT DISCONNECT when connected to my computer. How do I fix that??

Personally I would, from the information you have given, reset my iPod and/or restore it and then try it again. If this still happens repeat the process but re-install iTunes and QT.
I know this is not a quick resolve but, personally, these things must be done before doing much else since it could be a number of reasons this could be happening - try the more obvious approach first (if you haven't already). If this still does not work then I will not be able to help, there are others here that certainly know more than I do - failing that visit an Apple Store if possible since I would have a guess at stating its more an iPod problem than the software on your computer.

  • Help! iPod won't turn off! Stuck in 'Do not disconnect' mode.

I plugged in my iPod to update it and charge it. My computer told me there were connection issues. I tried rebooting my computer and the iPod never shut off. At that point I disconnected it from the computer and my iPod by itself will not shut off. I tried putting the hold button on and off, moving the wheel....nothing!

You need to either the let the iPod finishing syncing with iTunes, or figure out what application is still using it in the back ground that prevents you from being able to properly eject the device.  Just unplugging it from the computer is almost always going to cause issues when it's still in use by iTunes or another application.
So let's connect the device to iTunes one more time and let it finish restoring.  Then try syncing a bit of content over to it and wait for it to finish the sync process.  Then try to properly eject it from iTunes this time.

  • Ipod mini stuck in "do not disconnect mode"

I had my ipod mini plugged in and downloading music onto it...it was working fine, when I was done I ejected it off the computer so I could disconnect it...it ejected off my desktop but then the screen that says "do not disconnect" would not go off my ipod screen then my computer froze so I restarted it and unplugged the ipod, now the ipod is frozen on that screen, I tried restarting it and that didn't work, I tried plugging it back into the computer and it won't show up on my computer or my sisters computer and the screen won't change....any suggestions??

If you are sure resetting it doesn't help (and it might take many attempts), then look here.

  • IPod say's "Do Not Disconnect" but still not recognized. Please help!!

    Hi everyone.
    Ok here's my situation.
Im using a MacBook Pro (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5)
    iTunes 11.4 (64Bit)
    iPod 4th Gen. (White 20GB 'Click-Wheel')
After doing a system restore on my ancient dinosaur ipod 4th gen. (the white 20GB 'Click Wheel') and 'upgrading' to iTunes 11 i've had nothing but problems.
So now when i plug in my ipod it charges fine and even say's "Do Not Disconnect" *BUT* there is no 'on my ipod' button. I cant see my playlists, add songs, delete songs or anything! I just want to 'DOWNGRADE' my itunes and have everything how it was before. I find this to be a science project in itself and no amount of searching youtube videos gave me a clear answer, it only made me more afraid and confused of going forward with this.
I tried downloading 'sharepod' for MacBook Pro but this is pointless because it needs itunes to recognize the ipod for it to recognize the ipod. Ehh.
I did a 'system restore' on the ipod but when i went home where all my music is (on a windows PC) it said i have to do the restore again because it was restored on a MAC. So i did the restore again on my Windows PC (put all my music on it) and now i want to add songs from my MACBOOK Pro and its not even recognizing my ipod. Arrrgh the frustration i tell you!
Im done doing the system restore and i just want to add playlists now. Why is this soo difficult? Someone please help a newbie out. Im great with computers and feel like i honestly should have never upgraded the itunes in the first place because i feel this is what is causing my problem. I've heard the older gen. ipods dont work as well with the newer versions of itunes although im not sure if there is any truth to that or is it just rumors. Either way can somebody please take me on a step by step of what to do next? Please with a cherry on top?

    Did you restart the Mac?
Did you reset the iPod using the two button combo?

If the above do not work, try putting the iPod into disk mode, and then connecting it to the Mac.

  • IPod stuck in "Do not disconnect" after Restore

My iPod was stuck and iTunes told me to restore it. I left it alone in restoration mode for 24 hours since it said "Do not disconnect." Now, I have tried disconnecting USB and reconnecting and restarting computer. When I disconnect it, the iPod says "Connect to your computer; use iTunes to restore." I can't believe it could take this long to restore. Is there anything else I can do?

Give this a shot and see what happens:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=32222
Be sure to click on any embedded links that could possibly pertain to your situation, or even to just get more info on your iPod. There is a link for tutorials in there that EVERYONE could probably benefit from. Another link you could probably benefit from is "disconnect screens" towards the bottom. Look that over carefully as well.

  • My iPod frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ?

My iPod seems to be frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ? Eventually I did disconnect. It's remains frozen and shows almost full charge.

I'm having similar problems. Here is exactly what happens to me:
I dock the iPod (I believe it is the 5th gen model, one of the first to play videos). Sometimes it syncs properly sometimes not. It will add songs not on my iPod, but it won't update the play count, last played, etc. The problem was fixed when I updated to a new version of iTunes (I believe it was 7.2 at the time, I could be wrong). So I played it off just being an iTunes issue. Well, with 2 updates since then, it has done it yet again. I've tried to restart the iPod using the menu+select key. It will work to remove the iPod, but it won't help in the future. The only way I can remove the iPod is to click on "Safely Remove Hardware." I know this isn't good for the iPod, but this is the only way that I can get the "Do not disconnect" icon off my iPod. Also, I tried to click "Eject iPod" (I've used this several times in emergency cases and worked wonders) but I get a message saying "iPod is in use by another windows program." I couldn't imagine what program is using my iPod. As far as I know, iTunes is the only program that can use the iPod on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • 5th Gen iPod freezes on "Do Not Disconnect" screen when connected to Mac

My iPod freezes on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen (partially backlit) when I plug it into my computer. I have a G4 eMac with standard USB connections. The ipod firmware is up to date.
This freeze doesn't occur ALL the time....just occasionally. The iPod does not appear on my desktop or in iTunes when this happens. I have to wait until the iPod discharges its battery completely before I can use it again (this sometimes takes a couple of days!).
Does anyone have any ideas? Or is anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks....

    G4 eMac 700mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   768 MB RAM

Thanks for the replies.........I can't seem to find a solution to this....its annoying to say the least. Its just happened again this morning, though it's successfully sync'd on the last few occasions....it seems to be quite random.
One thing I've noticed is that it synced OK when iTunes wasn't open when I plugged it in. It appeared on the desktop, then I opened iTunes. This morning though it froze when iTunes was already open, so there may be an issue with iTunes (I updated this weekend to see if it was any different with the new version). I guess this will happen if you've got the ipod set to open iTunes automatically when connected too.
So, no solutions as yet.......I'm gonna get onto Apple to see if they have any answers. I'll get back to you all on this one.
PS: why no firewire capabilities on the new ipods?
