Ipod just keeps connecting/disconnecting. any thoughts?

here's the story. my ipod died. i upgraded to itunes 7. still was not working, i go to apple and get a refurbished one. the new one keeps connecting/disconnecting. when i open my computer, it shows it just blinking like its there, then its not. does not show in itunes, but half the time says do not disconnect.
here's where it gets weird. the USB port runs other devices fine. i plugged my ipod into a friends PC and could put music on it. i plugged my friends ipod into my PC and it shows up fine. i've swapped the ipod USB cord with my friend and it still does the same thing. so its not the ipod, its not my comp. and its not my itunes. anyone even want to attempt? i'm at my wits end here.

Try forcing the iPod into Disk Mode using the instructions in this Apple support document.
Putting iPod into Disk Mode
If you can successfully do that, it should keep the iPod mounted on your PC long enough for you to perform a restore of it via iTunes.

  • My airport Express is not recognizing Ethernet cables, therefore not allowing my cable modem to connect to it. This is resulting in no Internet connection. I upgraded the firmware to 7.5.2 and it attempts to connect but just keeps flashing. Any thoughts?

I've tried other routers in place of the airport and they work fine, but I really want to use the airport instead due to the wireless speaker addition.

I assumed that you have already tried using different "known good" Ethernet cables, just in case the one you have now is faulty ... correct?
Assuming the answer is "yes," the other option would be to perform a complete power recycle of your networking gear. This is something that should be performed whenever making network equipment changes.
    Please try the following:
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • I am getting interference on my Ipod touch on music that I sync from down loaded CDs to ITunes on my PC.  The music is clear when I play it on my PC but has the interference on the Ipod.  This just started recently.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Thank you so much for the reply.  I does not appear to be the headphones because I get the same interference sound from my Ihome radio when I dock by Ipod on it as well as when I connect the Ipod to the radio connection in the car.  I have isolated the issue to the Ipod because these same tunes play without interference on my PC so something is happening in the sync process.

  • "no ipod connected" -- but it IS connected! Any thoughts?

My nano was acting a little strangely -- when listening to music/podcast, I had lost the bar across the bottom of screen showing volume, duration of song, etc. So, I tried to update.
I downloaded the updater (1.1.1), pressed the button to update my nano. (chose update, not restore) Seemed to go ok. But hours later, screen still said "do not disconnect." I did disconnect -- wrong move? -- to find ipod seemingly stripped bare of what was on it. And when I call up ITunes to transfer my music, etc, back onto the Ipod, it doesn't seem to recognize it. Under preferences/Ipod: "no ipod connected." Any thoughts, advice, suggestions! I'm all ears.

"I did disconnect -- wrong move?"
Absolutely. By not allowing the firmware update to finish the installation before disconnecting the iPod, you could cause any number of problems. Try these steps.
    Reset the iPod.
If the reset doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode.
How to put the iPod into disk mode.
Now connect the iPod to the computer. This step may immediately take you to the iPod's normal display screen. Reset the iPod to exit disk mode.
If you still have the same issue, then you should use the updater to restore the iPod a second time (leave it in disk mode).
Wait until the restore has finished before disconnecting the iPod. If you're unsure, wait at least 20 minutes (it's probably overkill but best to be sure). In my experience, the software updater for version 1.1. takes longer to complete the process than previous updaters. Then eject it safely. Use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.
    That should cure the issue.
If however it doesn't, and your iPod is still non responsive (doesn't reset, nothing on the screen or button presses don't work), then it will have to be sent away for service.
    See: iPod service request.

  • Ipod keeps connecting & disconnecting

whenever i connect my ipod 2 my computer it keeps connecting & disconnecting over & over again. what is wrong?

I solved the constant connection/disconnection problem on my 4G iPod Nano by buying a Belkins 5 port PCI USB Card Model FSU220 and connecting my iPod to this card rather than the on board USB. The Belkins card uses a NEC USB controller chip. I believe the constant connection/disconnection problem is caused when a VIA Chip is used as the USB Controller. If you are having this problem you probably have a VIA USB controller.
Although other cards with other controllers might solve the problem I bought this one because it was available locally (about $35.00 at Staples) and it is Mac and Windows compatible.
I tried restarting the computer, re-installing iTunes, connecting to a different USB plug, and returning the iPod for another and nothing worked. Installing the card solved the problem for me.
Interesting to note that my previous ipod classic worked on the computer's built-in USB plugs without any problems. Also interesting is that I could keep the iPod connected to the computer and transfer files to the iPod (not music files) as long as iTunes was not running.

  • My ipod just keeps sync it want let me do anything I try to reset it but it want let me do that either. It just keeps having the loading symbol for hours and hours. Whats wrong?

My Ipod just keeps doing the sync circle, It want stop. Tried to reset it but it keeps doing the same thing I can't even get on my ipod. Not sure what the problem is.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod just keeps skipping songs

My iPod just keeps skipping through songs and won't play anything.

It skips on my ipod directly not my computer. It would play one song then just keep skipping through and wouldn't play anymore. I figured out how to fix it though. You need to push the menu button and the circle in the middle at the same time until the apple comes onto the screen, this should reset it. It worked for mine. Thanks

Is this happening with one particular network or with all?  Make sure iOS is updated on the device.
    Try this:
Reboot ipad by pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go. Then try to connect to network.
Go to settings, Toggle airplane mode on/off. Make sure bluetooth is off. Turn on wif (airplane mode off). Try to connect.
    Reset Network Settings
Go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Then try to connect to network.
If its your home router, then reboot router by unplugging for 5-10min. (do this while you're resetting network settings).
If problem persists, then check for firmware updates on your router.(you check router manufacturer support website for downloads and instructions).

  • ITunes crashes each time I connect/disconnect ANY USB device... OR even Ethernet

    Hi,
I use the last version of both iTunes (11.1.5 64 bits, last version detected) and Windows 8.1 on an Asus G750J (64 bits) and for several weeks now iTunes crashes EACH TIME I connect or disconnect ANY USB device (not only my iPhone, but my external hard disk or my... mouse) and even my Ethernet port...
None of my other softawares are impacted
    Thanks for your help
    Serge

Reinstalling the 64 bit version in the x36 programm folder seems to solve the problem but it's not satisfactory. I'd prefer to keep the advantage of beeing under the 64 bits version.

  • Help! My iPod won't connect to ANY computer.

I Recently replaced my iPod and got a new one. Out of the box, this one will not connect to any of my computers. It does not even charge. I have tried different cables, but that is not the issue. How can I fix this? Can I at all? By the way, I just got this one yesterday at an Apple store in Brandon, Fl if that helps.

Do you have iTunes 10.7 or later on the computers? That is required.
Next make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod just keeps restoring

When I connected my iPod today, iTunes said that it had detected an iPod in recovery mode and that I needed to restore it. I did so, but afterwards it gave me the same message and said I needed to restore it again. I have done so several times and it just keeps doing it. How do I fix this?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? Have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if restoring doesn't work, it may be of some help: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore

  • Bluetooth keeps connecting disconnecting

I have Volvo V40 and when I step in my car with my bluetooth enabled already, I see on my Z3 Bluetooth connect sand then disconnect. This repeats all the time. When I then disable bluetooth, wait a while and enable bluetooth again, the problem is gone. I don't know for sure, but what I have see on my car's phone menu, although I get these disconnects on my phone , the disconnects are not noticed by my car. But again, I didn't look into that yet. Do you have similar problems?

I have the same problem.   You must be new,  or in denial. I had a Z1s that had all these same problems,  disconnecting/maybe reconnecting,  won't stream music in the car,  troubleshoot to no end.  Then discovered the many many people online with the same problems.  Sony always tries to blame the car,  or the user. You also seem to frequently ask about the Wifi, because you know the wifi makes the problem worse.  Now,  I was foolish enough to assume that Sony actually listens to feedback and improves products.  I thought Sony would have fixed their bluetooth problems by two models later.   Boy was I dumb.   I have a new Z3, and the same old garbage,  connected,  disconnected,  connected,  disconnected.  Anyone who's considering this phone should just Google,  "Z3 bluetooth problems, " it's an eye opening experience.  Perhaps someone at Sony should too.  I tried to return the phone,  but it's been more than 14 days,  so all I can get is a "warranty return" which would just give me another of the same phones with the same defective software,  so what,  really,  can  I do?   Organize a class action suit?  SONY,  ARE YOU LISTENING?
