Ipod keeps connecting & disconnecting

whenever i connect my ipod 2 my computer it keeps connecting & disconnecting over & over again. what is wrong?

I solved the constant connection/disconnection problem on my 4G iPod Nano by buying a Belkins 5 port PCI USB Card Model FSU220 and connecting my iPod to this card rather than the on board USB. The Belkins card uses a NEC USB controller chip. I believe the constant connection/disconnection problem is caused when a VIA Chip is used as the USB Controller. If you are having this problem you probably have a VIA USB controller.
Although other cards with other controllers might solve the problem I bought this one because it was available locally (about $35.00 at Staples) and it is Mac and Windows compatible.
I tried restarting the computer, re-installing iTunes, connecting to a different USB plug, and returning the iPod for another and nothing worked. Installing the card solved the problem for me.
Interesting to note that my previous ipod classic worked on the computer's built-in USB plugs without any problems. Also interesting is that I could keep the iPod connected to the computer and transfer files to the iPod (not music files) as long as iTunes was not running.

  • Ipod just keeps connecting/disconnecting. any thoughts?

here's the story. my ipod died. i upgraded to itunes 7. still was not working, i go to apple and get a refurbished one. the new one keeps connecting/disconnecting. when i open my computer, it shows it just blinking like its there, then its not. does not show in itunes, but half the time says do not disconnect.
here's where it gets weird. the USB port runs other devices fine. i plugged my ipod into a friends PC and could put music on it. i plugged my friends ipod into my PC and it shows up fine. i've swapped the ipod USB cord with my friend and it still does the same thing. so its not the ipod, its not my comp. and its not my itunes. anyone even want to attempt? i'm at my wits end here.

Try forcing the iPod into Disk Mode using the instructions in this Apple support document.
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
If you can successfully do that, it should keep the iPod mounted on your PC long enough for you to perform a restore of it via iTunes.

  • Ipod keeps connecting then disconnecting

I've tried everything possible to try to make my Ipod mini work. I can't connect it to the PC because it keeps connecting and disconnecting repeatedly. I can't restore it since I can't connect it. I've tried all the different USB ports and I've installed and uninstalled all the programs a few times. I've also reset it connected and disconnected. It has worked before but now it won't! This is driving me nuts

Similar problem here too plus when I do manage to get them to connect they will not charge.
Both my classic iPods work fine, in all my computers, and show that they are charging, but my family have 3 nanos, a 4th and two 5ths. Although they all connect to my PC and my laptop fine, none of these will connect correctly to my daughters PC no matter what USB port I put them in.
I have checked in device manager that the ports are powered (500ma) and nothing else is there to infringe on this supply. Still these items connect and disconnect constantly. Ironically every now and then, they will connect and allow me to look at the files etc in iTunes. I have at one point had two nanos and my classic connected to her computer and they all worked fine for about an hour, I thought that I had finally got rid of the problem but one by one the nanos started to play up again so this exacerbates the problem somewhat.
I also get various warnings when the Nanos are trying to connect like, software driver failure to install, it will work faster in a high speed USB port, nano needs formatted to work in windows plus a host of others. When I plug them back into my PC they connect fine, so that all adds to the confusion. If this was one nano I would suspect that it was faulty but it is three different ones.
I have done the 5 Rs, I have even gone as far as upgrading from XP to Windows 7, I have plugged the units into every USB port, I even bought a new PCI/USB card and tried that and still this problem persists.
I would like to hear from someone with any suggestions as to what is causing this and how to fix it.

  • My ipod keeps connecting and disconnecting from the computer

I've tried everything, first my ipod kept displaying the folder with the exclamation mark, then a couple of days ago started working again. It then wouldn't play any songs and just kept skipping. So I plugged it into my computer to restore it so I could start again. Now its displaying the folder with the symbol again, and just keeps connecting and disconnecting all the time so I can't do anything to it. Keep trying the ipod updater but says it cant mount ipod.
    Any ideas????

    Hello all,
I've been experiencing the same problem, but have managed to get it sorted.... well sort of.
As Jen's problem, I had the exclamation mark and after unsuccessfully trying to update etc decided to leave it out of frustration.
A day or so later it started to work again, great!!!
A few days of problem free use then I got the sad Ipod screen.
After checking the website I've restored and I'm now a week later and still trying to get my music from Itunes onto my Ipod.
The problem now, once again very similar to Jen's is that my Ipod only seems to connect to my PC for period of time and then disconnects, sometimes updating a few songs.
I get different 'Unknown Error' messages usually -124.
I've tried with both USB and Firewire connections and even when my Ipod disconnects it still charges, so it's not the port at fault.
Can't help but think it's the actual Ipod which is causing me this hassle and musicless journeys!!!
    Any ideas?

  • Why does my 5gh video 60gig ipod keep getting disconnected?

Ever since I installed itunes 7 and 1.2 update my ipod keeps getting dropped. it says "do not disconnect" and then poof it disconnects istelf?
this is getting bad, i can't update my podcasts, etc.
    anger rising.

When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
The timeout failure could be due to
Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.
Preferably stop doing other things while syncing this ancient device, which the latest iTunes designer, think will soon be extinct.

  • Bluetooth connection - Keeps connecting / disconnecting in car.

    Hi,
I've recently got a Z2 phone and i love it all apart from when I get in my car.
It connects, disconnect, connects, disconnnect, and so on and so on for as long as Im driving.
I've done all I can think of.
Reset the phone, unpair the devices etc.
does anyone have any idea? is this a known issue?

I guess nobody has this issue?
The car is a 2014 Vauxhall Insignia
I've had the garage look into it but they have no problem getting other phones to connect to the vehicle, even my old Nokia 920 works fine.

  • IPod keeps connecting/ejecting

when i plug in my iPod it connects for about 10 seconds and then 'ejects'. it continues to connect/eject... on my pc (windows) it freezes up the computer. on a laptop, i restored to original settings but after synching to itunes it does the same thing...
any suggestions or help most appreciated....

I'm so glad I found this thread. Just got a black iPod classic 80G. I didn't have any connectivity problems for the first few days but now it connects intermittently. I have completely confirmed that it is an issue with the cable's plug making good contact in the iPod connector. I say "confirmed" because I can repeatedly insert the plug applying light downward pressure so the the plug rises up internally (this is with iPod facing up) and I connect every time, no problem.
I was hoping it was a USB port problem since I've read some ports can provide the required power and some cannot. When I first tried a USB port on back of my PC, it worked but as soon as I moved the iPod I lost connection. I then tested holding it at a slight angle again and voila, it repeatedly worked.
I am convinced that this is a hardware problem. Either the the plug on the cable is defective or the connector inside the iPod is defective. I am going to try calling Apple and direct them to my post and see what they say. I could take it back to Abt where I bought it but I am not convinced they'll resolve the issue. I'd hate to exchange it for one that has the same problem.
Hopefully anyone out there with a iPod Classic found this useful. I'll reply with what I find out after talking with Apple.
    Later,

  • Bluetooth keeps connecting disconnecting

I have Volvo V40 and when I step in my car with my bluetooth enabled already, I see on my Z3 Bluetooth connect sand then disconnect. This repeats all the time. When I then disable bluetooth, wait a while and enable bluetooth again, the problem is gone. I don't know for sure, but what I have see on my car's phone menu, although I get these disconnects on my phone , the disconnects are not noticed by my car. But again, I didn't look into that yet. Do you have similar problems?

I have the same problem.   You must be new,  or in denial. I had a Z1s that had all these same problems,  disconnecting/maybe reconnecting,  won't stream music in the car,  troubleshoot to no end.  Then discovered the many many people online with the same problems.  Sony always tries to blame the car,  or the user. You also seem to frequently ask about the Wifi, because you know the wifi makes the problem worse.  Now,  I was foolish enough to assume that Sony actually listens to feedback and improves products.  I thought Sony would have fixed their bluetooth problems by two models later.   Boy was I dumb.   I have a new Z3, and the same old garbage,  connected,  disconnected,  connected,  disconnected.  Anyone who's considering this phone should just Google,  "Z3 bluetooth problems, " it's an eye opening experience.  Perhaps someone at Sony should too.  I tried to return the phone,  but it's been more than 14 days,  so all I can get is a "warranty return" which would just give me another of the same phones with the same defective software,  so what,  really,  can  I do?   Organize a class action suit?  SONY,  ARE YOU LISTENING?

  • Ipod keep connecting then disconnecting... What do I do?

I have a 4th generation Ipod nano. I tried to connect it to my computer to put new songs on it, but when I plugged it into the usb connector it went crazy. It goes from being connected to being disconnected, connected to disconnected... It continues untill I finally remove my Ipod. It never shows up on Itunes during the process either. What should I do?

Have you tried connecting it to a different USB port on your machine? Maybe attempt to restart the iPod (which will take it out of Disk Mode) by toggling the hold switch on and off a few times, then pressing and holding the Center and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
Maybe also attempt to use a seperate USB cable to sync the iPod with.
How long will it stay connected? Does it appear in "My Computer"? If it does (for a long enough period of time), maybe try reformatting it using the tools provided by windows.
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml
If still no luck, also try plugging your iPod into a different computer if possible, to see if the problem lies with the iPod or computer. If you can get it hooked up to a second computer OK, I would recommend restoring it via iTunes.

  • IPod keeps connecting then disconnecting immediately... help?

So, I bought my iPod nano in April and it worked perfectly until about 1 month ago when my computer suddenly stopped recognizing it, and now whenever I try to connect it it disconnects after 1 second, then connects again, then disconnects etc etc....
I know this is a known issue cause as I've been trying to solve this for one month I've done some searching and seen plenty of other people having the same problem, but no one seems to have a resolution that works.
Basically my exact same problem is described in these 2 threads:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2240335&tstart=0
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1847791&start=0&tstart=2
I've done every thing suggested but no luck... I went back to the store as well and they didn't find anything wrong with it, so obviously it's my computer (I tried it at my mom's work as well and it worked there) but I don't know what's causing the problem. I don't wanna get my iPod replaced or buy a new one because it might just as well happen to that one too and then I'm stuck in the same boat again. Getting a new computer isn't really an option either. :/
So, any kind of help that hasn't been suggested already would be highly appreciated...
    thanks in advance

  • When I plug in ipod, it connects/disconnects every second, forever..Win-7

My ipod worked fine when I was running XP, but when I changed to Windows 7 (32bit), it started doing this thing where it would disconnect and connect every second, for as long as it's little heart desired.
    i tried:
    -letting it die
    -restarting it
-all possible solutions provided by itunes help
    -putting it into disk mode
-reformatting it (it worked on dad's comp: win xp)
    other facts:
    -it still charges
-still plays music when not connected to computer

Having the same problem with Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Started about a month ago. Gen 1 iPod video that I have updates and connects fine, just not my 4Gen Nano. Sent it in for repair, they sent me back a different one, having the same problem.

  • Ipod keeps connecting and disconnectng?

When I hook up my ipod to my computer. It will say connecting. Then a few seconds later it will say now disconnecting. Then it repeats the process over and over. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes its really annoying me now because it only seems to happen on my computer. Im on my second Ipod since christmas and its been nothing but hastle. Comet won't let me change it because "Its policy that you have to go through Apple first". Not that they ever told me that before. Currys changed my first one and when i was working for HMV we exchanged them.
Whats all this 'one free technical support' rubbish? If my product isnt working why cant you get a new one? Its not like ive brought a year old one back for a refund I just want one that actually works!!!

  • IPod keeps randomly disconnecting

Ok, this is really bizarre. I have had SO much trouble with my ipod. I've had three brand spanking new units from apple and it's just not having it.
Basically the problem this time is that the ipod will be quite happily taking music from itunes then it will suddenly disconnect.. while the cable is still connected by the way.... and reconnect with no songs on it. itunes recognises that some of the space on the ipod has been taken up; but it wont see the songs it already has on the ipod.
    What is going on here?
I've tried taking it out of disk mode and using automatic update on it using a playlist in itunes. And I've tried doing it manually. Someone please for the love of god tell me how to fix this.
2GB iPod Nano   Windows XP Pro

Ok, I tried using a different cable, USB port and computer.
Basically I have deduced that it is a problem with my USB. All the USB ports I have are onboard motherboard ones that are on an ABIT KV7 motherboard, USB 2.0
Any ideas how to fix this? I thought I had the latest updates....

  • Garmin Forerunner 210 keeps connecting/disconnection when plugged in HP Pavilion dv6-3040sd

I have a problem connecting my Garmin Forerunner 210 (GF210) to my HP Pavilion dv6-3040sd. I know the problem is with the laptop, because i tried several other laptops and on those it works well. When i connect the device, windows installs the drivers. so far so good. When the drivers are installed, the laptop recognises the GF210 and it connects. A window pops up letting me choose what i want to do, but before i can decide the device is disconnected and connected again. It goes on and on like this.
On onther laptops the GF210 is seen in the 'Computer' section as a external harddrive.
My laptop is running on Windows 7 64-bit and all the latest updates from windows are installed.
Does anybody know an answer to this problem?
    This question was solved.

    Hello again HarmR,
It is good to hear back from you!
Since you have already applied the document above with no success, I recommend changing the drive letter of the Garmin Forerunner 210. This can be done by following the steps of this document on how to Change, add, or remove a drive letter.
Additionally, I also suggest following the steps below in order to recognize a USB device in Windows 7:
    Step 1. Click Start
    Step 2. Click Control Panel
    Step 3. Click Administration Tools
Step 4. Click on Computer Management
Step 5. Click on Disk Management
*** If it was not seen there, go to 'Action' on the menu bar, click on 'Rescan Disks' and it should come up. If it does show here does it have a drive letter assigned? If not follow the instructions below:
Step 1. Right-click on the removable drive
Step 2. Click on Change drive Letter...
Step 3. Assign a drive letter
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!
