IPod Keeps Forcing Reset

Every time I either shut down my iPod Touch or put it in sleep mode and wait a few minutes, it locks itself into no mans land and requires that I reset it by holding the power and home buttons. This started happening out of the blue without upgrading any firmware or anything.
I'm guessing my only solution is to restore off a backup of the iPod? Any other ideas?

I am having the same problem, my ipod worked just 2 days and started rebooting over and over again, I even tried to start the ipod as an external drive but it keep rebooting no matter what I do.
I checked this support page and realized that this seems to be happening a lot.
is there any systemic troubleshooting process to deal with this?
thx

  • Two Users, One Shared Library, and iPod keeps being "reset".  Help.

My wife and I share the same Mac Mini. We have separate accounts, but use the same iTunes Library, which is on a shared volume. (This is a separate hard drive where all our music is kept.)
Here's the problem: Tunes keeps asking me to reset my wife's iPod every time I log in and open iTunes. Specifically it says "this iPod is linked to another library, do you want to overwrite..." etc. Interestingly enough, this does not happen with my Nano, which is also connected to the computer.
FYI, we each have our own playlists set up; does this indicate that our library is in fact not shared? The path to the music itself is the same as per the iTunes preferences...
    Thanks!

Actually, I just figured out the answer to my own question. Apparently this is not possible with the shuffle. I don't know how to cross-post on these boards, but if anyone else is interested the relevant thread can be found by searching for:

  • Why does my iPod keep force-closing my apps?

My iPod software is up to date, I have about 2 gigabytes left in my memory. I already reset my iPod to it worked fine for about 2 days but now it still continues to force-close all of my apps including the settings app. Other apps such as the Music or Messages app are slow as well. Sometimes an app will work fine for a while and then it just closes, or as soon as I open the app, it force-closes. How can I fix this problem?

  • IPod keeps showing "reset" screen, won't respond - HELP

This is my problem. I was trying to add songs to my ipod, and unfortunately my computer decided to freeze. I managed to get iTunes shut down, and safely disconnected my iPod, but ever since then it's been on the "reset" (black with the apple logo) screen. I can restart the iPod through all the different ways, it just keeps going back to the reset screen! After a while, the batteries died, so I figured I could hook it back up to the computer and maybe iTunes would recognize it (it wasn't doing so earlier). No dice; it just charged the battery, and went right back to the reset screen.
Now, I've looked through this blasted support site, and haven't found anything thats useful or doesn't lead me back to where I started. If anyone could help me, that'd be amazing. I don't want to have to get this serviced if it's just a software problem.

  • Ipod keeps restarting/resetting. Help!

When I plug my Ipod (not sure which gen. but it has a click wheel) to my computer via the firewire, my ipod restarts and restarts and restarts sometimes i get a glimpse at the menu, but only for a second before it turns off and the apple logo shows up again.
I suspect it needs to be charged, but I used to charge it through my computer anyway and my dock charger is out of town.
I'm just wondering why it does this and what i can do to get it to turn on. I tried the latest update but it didn't seem to help.
    Any Ideas???

    reset isn't doing anything
I guess it could be the firewire but i kind of ruled it out because the ipod only repeatedly restarts when its connected to the firewire. Thanks!

  • IPod Keeps 'Soft Resetting'

    I have a 16GB Green IPod Nano.
The problem is this: As i am listening to music, the IPod will randomly 'soft reset' itself. It does this pretty often, every couple of songs. It will happen at different points in the song, so its not just when a new song starts. This problem is getting pretty annoying.
I've tried troubleshooting by soft-resetting and doing a full "restore to factory settings". Still having the problem.
Is there a solution to this problem?

It also can reset when i press one of the buttons, or move the hold switch to off.

  • 2nd gen ipod touch keeps force closing apps. what should i do?

my wife gave me her old 2nd gen ipod touch when she got a new one. she cleared off all the data and did a factory reset. a couple of weeks goes by and my apps keeps force closing on me. its getting really annoying escpecially when i try to play games or go on facebook. i checked for updates and its has the latest 4.2.1. its not a space issue either; i have 6.83 gigs left. i really dont want to do a restore...can anyone give me any tips or advice on what to do about this problem?
    thanks!

A restart does nothing to the data.  Try this first.
A reset does nothing to the data.  Try this if  restarting does not help.
If restart and restore do not solve it then restore from backup.
If that fails then restore as new.

  • Ipod keeps resetting at language selection HELP!

My ipod keeps resetting at the language selection and i can't do anythink except recharge it. How can i get it to work again.

    Welcome to the discussions Patrick,
It may or may not have said it on there but there is one number for apple support. It is 1-800-APL-CARE. You dial this number during buisness hours and follow the steps given. Since you just bought this (a video ipod right?) you have one year or 90 days of phone and tech support. As for turning the ipod on and off it is the play/pause button and the center button. Center to turn it on and play/pause to turn it off. It is confusing at first yes, but you should get the hang of it. The applecare representatives will/should take care of you.

  • What do I do if my iPod nano keeps syncing, resetting, and syncing and i cant add music to it? I've tried syncing my other iPod and that works just fine.

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

  • My iPod keeps reseting!

OK, real problem. My iPod keeps reseting when I connect it to a computer! All my files stored on it (I used it as a flash drive) are still there, but inaccesable, my computer says the disk doesn't exist. What is going on? And might this fix my video problem, too? (after the 15 minute mark, my movies always extend their time up to the 900s and skip frames at the speed of light. Entertaining for the Nostalgia Critic.)

Your problem is too complicated for me to understand, so try the basic 5Rs.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Or bring it in to Apple Genius store.
If you are using it as a "flash drive" which is another way of saying, you put it in DiskMode. You can't see the files in standalone mode, or if coonected to iTunes, it wont list your files. Only Window explorer can list your files.
    Have a nice day!

  • Ipod keeps reseting itself

so after i had the trouble with my ipod last week and ended up replacing it at the apple store for a small fee of $32.05, this new ipod is giving me more problems.
so this new ipod keeps reseting itself. for example, i connected it to my computer and the "do not disconnect" sign won't come off and it's not connecting to itunes. so i reset the ipod. it finally connected and then i ejected the ipod no problem. so then from now on, it resets itself, leading me to restore the ipod. so i restored it, and the problem still occured. and then i reset it again and now it's working fine.
in conclusion, does anyone have some suggestions/comments/idea for this situation?

that's EXACTLY what is happening to me. i plan to go back to the apple store very soon because i've run out of ideas as to what to do to solve this dilemma. i'm glad though i'm not the only one with this problem although i am sorry you have the problem too lol.

  • IPod keeps reseting itself while updating

I've had previous trouble with my 60GB iPod Video, but I think this is the last problem... I am trying to update my iPod but while its updating the iPod keeps reseting itself over and over again... please help!!!

There's nothing you can do but bring it back to the store. Mine does the same thing, it just goes to show that Apple is so busy pushing these new iPods on us and releasing them too soon that the customers end up having to deal with their hardware failures---all because they didn't take the time to test these!!!

  • My ipod keeps getting corrupted and I have to reset it

My ipod keeps getting corrupted, and I have to keep resetting it. I have owned four ipods. Yes that's right. Four. I have been returning them but every single one does this. It is the same every time. I press the middle button when "Music" is selected, and the device completely shuts off when I do this and goes to the Apple icon. If I press play, then it will play songs, but only at random, and I cannot access my playlists. I have to reset the ipod to fix this problem. What's going on with this?
    ipod Nano   Windows XP

Im not sure EXACTLY what would cause this, but if you have had 4 nanos do the exact thing, its either a issue with the nanos being sold at the place your getting them at, like the local store in your area, or its a issue with your PC. I know some people report a issue with a certain malware program that sneaks on there system and causes havoc with the iPod service and in turn causes weird things with there pod.
The iPOd Service is a program that runs in the background of windows and, in basic terms, acts like the "Middle guy" translating things from the PC to the pod.
Scan your system for any viruses with a antivirus program and scan for malware with Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/download Then download install and run the latest iPod updater on your nano here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • Photo app keeps force closing

The stock photo app keeps force closing during edit and sometimes regularly. Is this a problem everyone is experiencing?

    - That is not a common problem that users post in this forum.
    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod

  • Ipod keeps restarting on its own

I just plugged my ipod into my PC, and it just keeps restarting over and over again. The apple symbol comes up and looks good, then goes dark and restarts again. Then sometimes it gets to the menu and shows the do not disconnect logo, but then restarts immediatly. It did this all night long...hours and hours....what do I do?

Take a look at the article I provided a link to in my first post. Make sure your Hold switch is set to off, and try resetting your iPod a few more times. If your computer detects your iPod, try a restore with the latest iPod Updater (version 1.1.1). If your computer doesn't detect the iPod, try forcing it into disk mode.
If the problem persists, you may have to contact Apple.
