Everytime i try to restore my ipod it loads until there is a little bit left to load and then shuts off and itunes says that there is an unknown error (9) and can not restore. Does anyone know what that means and/or what i can do?

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

  • HT201210 iPhone 4 stuck in recovery mode and will not restore.

My iPhone 4 randomly turned off a few days ago and wouldnt turn back on. I plugged it into iTunes which said it was in recovery mode but will not restore as error 1600 keeps propping up. Someone please help, I have tried lots of ways but none are working.

Placing your device into recovery (DFU) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Iphone 4 stuck in recovery mode and will not restore in itunes. HELP!

    Hey Guys
I tried to jailbreak my iphone (bad idea obviously) and ever since, its been screwing up.
At first, it was stuck on the apple logo- Then I followed some videos on Youtube and it was stuck on the Pineapple from Redsnow..
NOW its stuck in restore mode (the screen with the USB and the Itunes symbol) I have tried to restore it 3 times and it gives me an error message (1604) or it doesn't even restore.
HELPP! It's been like this all day. What could I do?

FIRST, edit your hosts file (which was corrupted by the jailbreak process) and remove any references to gs.apple.com; delete the whole lines and save the file. If you don't know how to do this you will have to get help, and it shows that jailbreaking was a bigger mistake than you thought.
Next, connect to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub and disconnect all USB devices that consume power or bandwidth (like USB drives).
Put it into DFU mode to restore. With the phone disconnected hold HOME and SLEEP until a black screen appears. Immediately release SLEEP and continue holding HOME. While holding connect to iTunes and continue holding. After a while (perhaps several minutes) iTunes should recognize the phone. When it does release the HOME button and hope for the best.

  • IOS 7 put my phone in recovery mode and will not restore

After updating to iOS 7, my iphone went into recovery mode and everytime I try and restore it, it errors out with an error code 9.  I have tried 2 different cords and 2 different computers and it will not restore.  HELP    Not sure what to do from here and the nearest Apple store is 200 miles away.

    Hi all,
Bit of background so I don't waste anyone's time:
IPhone 4s, itunes 11.1 (both on computer and iphone)
I too am stuck in this recovery loop. I've read all over the community and have tried the suggestions:
I put my phone in DFU mode & also recovery mode (a.e. hold home/sleep button down for 10 seconds, etc., etc., etc.) and tried restoring this way 10 different times, as some posts say it sometimes works after the 4-5 try but still no results.
On my Iphone Screen the apple logo appears and the status bar below it gets stuck about 2/3 of the way, then I get the following error message, "could not restore because of unknown error (1)".
I set up an appt. at the apple store for tomorrow, but holy sh*t what a fiasco!
    Any suggestions?

  • Error Code 21, iphone 4S stuck in DFU mode and will not restore!

    Hi All,
My brand new Iphone 4S will not switch on unless it is connected to the charger/usb connection to the laptop, before we go any further the battery is fully charged. When you connect the phone to the charger plug you can go through the set up routine until a point is reached when it displays "conect to itunes" however, as soon as you disconect the usb cable from the charger plug to conect it to the laptop it appears to just switch off and then display the apple logo, the screen then goes blank and then the logo again, it carries on doing this indefinately.
I can get the phone into DFU mode and itunes will recognise it, IOS 5.0.1 downloads and it attempts to restore the phone but I then get an "unknown error message (21)" I just cant get past this point, I have also tried the restore procedure on a friends Windows laptop and a MacBook Pro but still no joy.
I have booked an appointment at my nearest Genius Bar (which is miles away) on Thursday but I could well do without having to make this trip, can anyone please advise me if there is something else to try?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, yes I did disable my firewall and antivirus software staight after my first failed restore attempt but it made no difference, like you I also checked out the error code explination.
What I cant understand is why dosent this phone does not work straight out of the box?...its brand new, I have not tried to jailbreak it, (I have recently seen this as a possible cause in another post) I just want the bloody thing to work!
I also forgot to mention in my post that the phone will not respond to any key presses or show any signs of life unless it is conected to a power source and beleive me it has spent most of the last 2 days conected to one due to this, the battery indicator shows it is fully charged.
Any more help is very much appreciated.
